According to a journalist from the Guardian, some "major" footballing news is set to be announced at 5.30pm today.

This sort of 'breaking news' usually turns out to be complete bollocks or to be something irrelevant, so it's probably not worthy of its own thread, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Has anyone heard anything? A lot of the rumour is regarding a Premier League club going into administration, but there's little in the form of evidence...

Chelsea have exploited an obscure bi-law to sign Aguero, Luiz and Sanchez for a pint of bitter?

I can guarantee that it is about ManUtd snapping up Alexis Sanchez right before our eyes.

I remember during the last transfer window a statement on Stamford The Lion's Twitter page that there would be a major announcement later that day.

It turned out that one of the senior players had signed a new contract extension.

Word on the street is that Everton have gone into administration. However everything thus far is speculation and deserves to be demeaned and joked about. It'll probably turn out to be nothing, or something silly like Michael Owen to West Brom.

It's also important to bear in mind how hard it would be for Everton to hide something like this from the media...
