FA Cup New Format

Featured Replies

Lot’s of talk over the weekend on a proposed re vamp of the FA Cup and it’s format . I really wondered what other people thought about this topic , some really interesting proposal’s put forward a summary of a few below

Moving the legs to midweek fixtures – Think this is a good idea especially if you can show Qtr Finals over 4 nights

5:30 pm kick off for the Final – Not for me still think this should be a 3pm kick off

Seeding for top clubs - Not sure if I like this idea to me the beauty of the competition is the fact you never know who you will get ?

Top clubs always being drawn away in the 3rd /4th round – Think this happens in Germany and Greece very interesting option

Moving the League Cup to finish with the final at Christmas – Think this would be a good idea

Any other idea's out there ?

Dont actually agree with any to be honest. I like the replays being on midweek nights as it gives a different atmosphere but i like the tradition of saturday FA cup games. Again tradition of the final being at 3pm as the last game of the season is what should stay in my opinion. Agree with you that the unpredictable part of the draw is brilliant. You could get anyone from the likes of Crawley town to Manchester united. For the neutral it also makes for some great and different ties to watch. Its the same with making top teams play away, small teams want to go to Old trafford, stamford bridge, emirates.....its part of the cup. Wouldnt have much problem with moving the league cup to xmas though.

So yea in summary, not in favour of these changes

That's the other topic they are talking about no replay's . Extra time and pens on the day .

I think this is has to happen to be honest, replays now cause so many problems for teams in europe, and even teams in the lower leagues at times. Going to an on the day result would make sense.

Just have two teams from each country play in Europe - the winner in the Champions League and either 2nd place or the FA Cup winner in the EuroDisney Cup.

Then leave the FA Cup alone, it's a great competition for all the reasons stated above and has given me and many thousands of others some of the best footballing days out ever.

I don't agree with any changes to the FA Cup at all, they've already f*cked about with it too much, playing match days over a long weekend and restricting replays to one match. All of the 3rd round games should be played on the same Saturday afternoon, same for every other round. Well, maybe I'd make just one change - I'd give England's 4th CL spot to the FA Cup Winners. If the winners are already qualified for the CL, then the fourth spot should go to the 4th team in the Premiership.

If the FA really want to reduce the number of games played over a season, then why the f*ck don't they start with the mind-numbingly boring International friendlies that seem to be becoming more and more frequent? Surely it can't be because of financial gain to themselves???

Top clubs being drawn away in the 3rd & 4th rounds? No point at all, and I'm sure that because of the gate percentages received in the cup, most of the smaller clubs would prefer to play a big club away to take advantage financially. And any form of seeding would automatically destroy the magic of the cup.

As for changing the FA Cup Final kickoff time to 5:30, that's ridiculous. I've certainly got no love for fans of northern teams, but how the hell is starting a game at that time in the interests of northern fans? Unless of course the FA want the supporters of both teams to spend all day drinking before going to the match, something the police have been strenously trying to change for years.

The FA, the Premier League, UEFA and FIFA - all a bunch of totally incompetent and/or corrupt c*nts! (there's no smiley that shows the amount of anger I want to express!)

Does it need revamping? Didn't know it was broken apart from the fact the bigger clubs don't make much money out of it. Some people just have to fiddle!

They should just have it so that its on terrestrial tv only, the 3 hour build up to the final on BBC etc.

Take it back to the old days when it wasnt so commercialised and yeah give the winner a spot in the champions league means every club will take it seriously again. Its going down the road of becoming like the carling cup at the moment which is a shame

The FA cup is dieing a slow death. IMO the carrot of a CL place is the only thing that can save it. It will never happen though, the premier league would never allow it.

About bloody time they revamped the tournament. There are practically no jobs at the FA for tweaking the FA Cup because of its traditionalist stance towards the cup.

Time in introduce seeding, kick offs at 3 in the morning, so the North/South American audience can watch the game at a more comfortable time and perhaps the most obvious change of getting an Octopus to eat mussels with different teams written on them, to decide who plays who.

Fecking FA, always too slow to change things.

No, no, no, no and no. I'm sick of tradition being sucked out of the game so some w**kers can make a few quid.

What happened to the days where you got up on a Saturday morning thinking 'Yes, football today'. These days it's 'f**k we aren't playing till tomorrow' or worse still 'bollocks we're not playing till Monday' followed by the realisation that you still have another days work to get through.
