Football was so much more enjoyable back then - loved going to games and the match day atmosphere was 100% better.

That side with Wee Pat, Kerry, Speedo, Spackers, Pates and Eddie etc - still my favourite time of following CFC.

    And what am awful tragedy that killed Peter and his wife and the other couple in the car.

    They were hit by a speeding Oxford Bullingdon Club member ( with a Tory MP father ) at over 100mph . The guy had been boozing at a function and was drunk but the police failed to take a breath or blood sample from.him . Despite the doctor at the scene and ambulances crew testifying that he was clearly drunk, the lack of a blood test result meant he got a slap on the wrist sentence and only after the trial was it revealed he had a previous conviction for drunk driving .

    The crash left several children from both families orphaned. ..

    A tragedy and an injustice too.

    I went to the testimonial game for him at The Bridge , think it was a Chelsea 11 v a London 11, but I might be wrong.

    If I remember right, weren’t their the odd rumour after this game that we were interested in signing Gruft? Not sure where we’d of got the money from, but as a 9 year old I was excited, instead a few months later we sold our star player Ray Wilkins

    O well, I suppose we had to go through these dark days to fully appreciate 1983/84
