was that the evening game where that pompey fella threw an empty spirit bottle from the side terrace in to our end?

i can remember OB standing near us,directing other rozzers by radio in to nick him as they'd seen who it was and then him trying to deny it and being led away blubbing his innocence the mug!

very lively by the hospital afterwards too.

As previously mentioned, after Grimsby we went back to Doncaster and had one of the maddest evenings ever having fun and games with Sunderland and then dirty leeds who lovingly removed all our coach windows whilst we were down in the town assisting other chels who were having problems.

still one of the best away games of the last 40 odd years.

didn't Bates come on the pitch at Pompey away trying to get us to behave ?? Recall someone shouting back " stop treating us like animals we won't behave like animals " ..................swift exit from Bates

Remember when i was a lad in the late 60s we were moving to walthamstow from clerkenwell..I was worried not realising its just as easy to travel to chelsea from either place...When my parents took us to see houses im reminded of a home we went to and the lady spoke to me about footy as i was wearing a chelsea scarf...She was aparantly related to a player from ( i think) WBA called ( i think) KRIZYWIKI....Dont know if its spelt that way......We didnt buy that particular house

Also..someone must remember  (early 70s) a Blue called Deisel...Looked like a mad professor with glasses...Could drink guiness for a world cup. Always wore a normal jacket and celtic scarf......

It's a forgotten face from a sticker album, but there was a Dick Kryzwicki playing for Huddersfield in their one top flight season, early 70s and as you'd probably guess from his surname he was Welsh.

Dick Krzywicki is a Welsh former professional footballer and Wales international. He was born to Polish parents. During his career he played for West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town, Sc**thorpe United, Northampton Town and Lincoln City. Wikipedia

I've just found this (below) posted on the net ... maybe this gives us a clue as to why Chelsea were on the pitch ??? If Pompey did 'play up' inside Stamford Bridge it must have been very early on when there was guaranteed zero/minimal resistance around because when we entered the Shed we weren't impressed with their turnout, at all (considering the short journey up from the South coast). I also totally disagree with the observation below that the North stand was awash with them. In fact, the whole day, in and around the ground, intimidating atmosphere wise was comparable to a Southampton home game ... full stop.

"We needed a good one to stay in the promotion chase. After a Boxing Day win at Shrewsbury, I got up early the next day and caught the train south for an 11.30 morning kick off. The game was a 2-2 draw, but I remember it better for a couple of things. At Earls Court a mob of Portsmouth were chasing and getting the better of the very few Chelsea that were about. I can recall some Portsmouth lad all in Pink being…”very active”…. This went on until the cavalry arrived in the form of a tube from Victoria. Mr Pink then got active on his heels.

With it being an early kick off, drinking time was very restricted. We headed up to the Nell Gwynne, as it was nearer the ground than our ‘local’ the Kings Head. It seemed that just about everyone else had the same idea, for there were loads standing outside. In the bar, Jim ordered 8 lagers (2 each!) and 1 bitter. The barmaid poured the 8, and said “Bitters up the other end – I’ll be back in a minute” At that point we picked up the Lagers and casually walked outside and drunk them! What she must have thought when she came back, I don’t know!

Portsmouth bought a fair few with them, the North Stand was awash with them. The usual trouble erupted, and Plod piled in to deal with it. They began dragging out the Portsmouth trouble makers, and one of the first out was….Mr Pink! He stood out a mile in his Pink jeans and Pink Pringle jumper, there was nowhere he was going to hide from Plod. …Who’s the w**ker in the pink, who’s the w**ker in the pink…"

I was on the benches that day as well. Thought I remembered Pompey trying to shake the fence like spuds 78/79 by the fenced off bit between North stand and benches. Looking at carshalton picture, I don't remember gate 13 coming across either. I use to try and sit back row around that area to!!
