old football! skinheads in the shed, silk scarves round the wrists, No sponsors, no adverts. masses of concrete. Even the umbro piping and logo were "cutting edge"

Cheers Boyne. Another match in that 78/79 season on shortly is our home 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

This game took place I think in March 1979. Not a bad result since they had a brilliant side that won the Championship with a new points recotd that 1978/79 season.

Petar Borota's debut that day as well.

Me and my mate  got really badly crushed against a barrier in the Shed that day, We hit the post in the first minute that day if we had scored i would probably been taken away in an ambulance. We were 13 and took me years to persuade my mate to go to football again. The next game he went to was Derby away in the cup in 1983!.

There was a crush getting through the Bovril Gate that day as well. What's the consensus on Borota? Remember him as OK but couldn't kick the ball very far. Until Niedweki we had a few keepers who lacked a decent hoof, and when Eddie came on board we scored countless goals with a big hoof, Speedie flick on for Dixon to use his pace and stick it past the keeper.

Back to Borota, seem to remember at the time we were linked with a Yugoslavs manager, who didn't make it over, but recommended PB to us?

I was in the North Stand, right up against the police line, in awe of Liverpool's almost invisible away support.

I was most likely in there as well, really didn't fancy it sometimes did they, can only think of three teams that have always turned out everytime we've played them, Man Utd and our good chums from Upton Park and The Den.

That was this bloke: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miljan_Miljani%C4%87

Bit of a legend - managed Red Star Belgrade, Real Madrid as well as Yugoslavia. I remember him coming to watch us and we tried to get him as manager, but either he turned us down or we thought the completely clueless Danny Blanchflower would revive us and save us from relegation. I never knew he was behind the Borota signing, but it would make sense.

Borota was a complete nutter, capable of phenomenal saves but also ridiculous errors. I guess you've heard the story behind the 6-0 thrashing up at Rotherham?

A sombre moment in the club's history after the club was relegated against Middlesbrough in 1988. Here the Chelsea fans proceed to abuse police officers who were at the ground.
