programme cover for Chelsea v British Olympic XI, Monday, 16th Nov 1959 1959-60.jpg

Quite an unusual opponents for this friendly game. British Olympic X1. Assume it was a team of possible British players for the 1960 Rome Olympics, the following summer ?!

Anyway, we won 4-1. Our scorers: Jimmy Greaves with 2 and Gibbs with 2.Our team that night.

Team: Bonetti, Shellito, Sillett P, Anderton, Mortimore, Compton, Corthine, Greaves, Bridges, Gibbs, Block

Looks like a team of mainly youngsters.    A crowd of 6,302 saw it

Thanks to http://stamford-bridge.com/match.php?mid=2318&opp=British Olympic XI

1973- 74  Stoke City away. The two captains are old Chelsea team-mates,o ur John Hollins No 4 and Alan Hudson of Stoke.

Unusual strip awe are wearing that day !

You’d have thought the blue kit with yellow trim and socks would have done.

Why did refs and the linos always wear such unfashionable boots?

True, doesn't seem any reason for us to change our strip.

True re refs and linesman, with unfashionable boots back then.

Thought I was mistaken seeing this programme cover. I knew I saw Hutch’s Testimonial during the 78/79 season. Looked it up to see I was right, he had two in the space of three years. The one I went to was against QPR a 2-2 draw.
