Cleverly

Rooney

most impressive thing is Cleverly is now united main center midfielder and hes doin really well

Now our midfield and attack

Mata

Sturridge

Torres

Lampard

Mikel

Drogba

Anelka

Malouda

Kalou

Benayoun

Mceachran

if united can make cleverly there main man in middle why cant we use Josh? surely our attack is better than theirs on paper?

surely our attack is better than theirs on paper?

We have the bigger names they have the better players really.

Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck etc would all walk into our first 11. We have strikers that don't score and wingers who don't create. How the hell are our forwards better than theirs exactly?

Games arent played on paper, the best team doesn't necessarly contain all the best players in the squad. At present Utd's squad is probably better balanced than our own and have a manager in place who is afforded the luxury of taking risks.Hopefully AVB will be given the time to build a squad,Fergie in his early days had a very average team, he got lucky in 1990 with his FA cup win and the rest is history.

You're not giving them enough credit. Mata aside (because we cant really assess him after one game) Young/Nani/Valencia is better than anything we currently have out wide or, really, in the middle when it comes to creative play from midfield.

Rooney is obviously Rooney, but I would give us the edge for forwards. But only just. Rooney, Hernandez and Berbatov are going to score hatfuls of goals. Wellbeck obviously looks quite good too, but we may have our own gem in Danny.

Their main weakness is in the middle, but now Cleverly and Anderson seem to be gelling and it looks less likely they are going to get Sneijder with every passing game. If they stole a march on us, and got Modric from Spurs, they would be firm favorites for the title, imo.

Oh, and on Cleverley vs. Josh, Cleverley is 22 and has 3 loan seasons under his belt. Josh is 18, and has a ways to go yet

Not for me. Josh is a raw talent but if he were given the chance could be every bit as good as Cleverley if not better.

If we're being honest as much as they are both c**ts, Nani and Young are exceptional players and would walk into our team without any hesitation, as would Rooney and I wouldn't mind Anderson or Park either.

Games aren't played on paper. Without the ball we are as good as United if not better, with the ball we are nowhere near as good or fluent IMO. I don't think there has been a better team than us defensively over the last 6 or 7 years but we are nowhere near as good up the other end as we should be.

Drogba, Mikel and Josh aside, I feel only the top 4 players on your list are good enough for the future of our football club.

IMO Lampard, Anelka and Malouda aren't good enough and haven't been for the last 12 months but fair play to them as you can't fault them for effort which is all I can ask for.

It's becoming clear now that whoever wins this Championship, is going to have to win something close to 30 games (like we did in 04/05), that means really you can only have 10 slip ups all season (we've had 1 already),

I don't feel United and City are as far ahead of us as people make out but one things for sure is that if we played either of them tomorrow we'd lose and probably not fair much better than Spuds did against Man U and Bolton did against City.

I say just pay the money for Modric, because long term it will pay dividends. With Fabregas gone I feel that he and Silva are the only genuine creative midfielders in this country that wouldn't look out of place at Barca or Real

Not only that. He's giving a group of players that are performing week in week out very little credit and then goes on to overrate a bunch of players that churn out rubbish football and struggle every week.

We're not having a go, we're just giving you our thoughts on how the two teams compare. At this present moment there is no denying United have a better squad than us. They aren't as good as the media ad pundits alike would have people believe (as they found out last May) but they are certainly better than us and anyone else in this division IMO.

Are you a bit over sensitive ?

Anyways... I dont see their squad ahead of us in terms of quality. What they do have over us is balance. They have a good mix of youth/experience and a good mix of wide players and natural goal-scorers.

We used to have a better midfield, but now considering Essien is injured and Lampard out of form/past his best its not that clear anymore.

I am still glad ManU didnt sign Sneijder, because that would have been deadly for our chances to win the EPL this year

United are a special case, their team is not littered with world class players. But their team has an ego and a manager that seems to never lose confidence. I take the Berbatov saga for example, big speculation about him moving because he was not even on the bench for the Champions League final bearing in mind he was their and the Premier league top scorer last season, Yet he sits on the bench and seems content. Nothing in the papers in being said about it.

I think the manner Manchester united go about their business allows the club to get on that pitch with the pressure of winning yes, but with the capability and flair the manager desires.

Our squads better on numbers Id say but not an actual talent, Ashley Young looks unbelieavble since his move and their team gels. Our team looks stale to be honest and needs freshening up much like United have done this season.

i honestly watched that arsenal game yesterday and were amazed by them but lookin at there team on paper i think we have the potential to be MUCH better

Potential maybe. But the day present reality ?

I spy with my little eye, vast amounts of wishful thinking.

I still think they're a bit light in central midfield and will get found out in the later stages of the Champions League because of that.

I agree with that and even my brother whose a United fan has said the same.

But on that topic our midfield looks stale.

I still think they're a bit light in central midfield and will get found out in the later stages of the Champions League because of that.

I agree, its the one position they are lacking in with Scholes retiring and not getting Sneider (so far) leaving them seriously lacking in midfield creativity, same as us really.

What? You asked an opinion, and people gave it.

Its not about not supporting Chelsea. Its about being realistic. They are the champions. They dropped us three times last year. They just binned Arsenal and hit 8 goals past them. It sounds bitter to turn around and say "O, but they arent that good, amirite?"

Nobody doubts we could be better. But games arent played on paper. Theirs is a cohesive team coming off a title win that is very young and seems to fit together well. Ours is a squad in transition, with a 33 year old manager, who is still learning the ropes and coming to grips with the squad he has this year. Have some perspective. Or maybe you can join the boo boys and give the players hell cause Torres hasnt put 10 past Swansea by halftime. (see how it works when you assume there is no grey area?)

Not for me. Josh is a raw talent but if he were given the chance could be every bit as good as Cleverley if not better.

I said Josh is not the player Cleverly is at the moment because Cleverly has years of experience, and Josh has just arrived as a squad member. If Josh develops as promised, I have no doubt he will be arguably England's most important midfielder in 5-7 years time. But, just like you say, he is raw and expecting him to be a spark in the middle just casuse Cleverly has been good wont happen.

United has fulfilled to this season what is needed at the Bridge as well. Refreshment. Lampard, Terry, Drogs, all the players i ever wanted to see are aging. Even though Neville is still with United their team is younger by 0.7 years. Probably this year runners up and champion of the PL will be from Manchester, but i think that the step into the future is taken this season by AVB.

I think with a defense consisting of Ivanovic, David Luiz, Bosingwa and a good left wing defender which has to be found will be strong for the next three to four years. With Fabio and Rafael United for sure has the better future on the wing defender positions as Chelsea(even though i follow chelsea whenever i can, for me as a Leverkusen supporter its hard to write "as we have"). Therefore our investments in the fullbacks was better.

Essien and Ramires have to face Nani and Valencia, not on their positions but if we concern the impact on the game. Essien and Ramires will have to compensate the decline of Frank Lampard which will appear in the next years. Mata and Kalou will have to face a lot of responsibility.

Drogs has to be replaced by Torres or if Torres won't work anytime he has to be replaced by Lukaku.

United is not really better, Utd is just a bit ahead in order to reach reorganization and refreshment. Both teams could use one or two additional players but their biggest advantage was the composure with which this process was and is sustained. While AF could do this in a quite mannerly way, at the bridge at least two managers have been dumped.

This season will be a season of restrengthening. Nothing bad with that i think.

Though we would hate it , We will have to give credit to Ferguson and how he has been able to assemble teams over the years ..

His spirit simply sticks with the players and they play out of fear and respect to their coach.

Game wise , they move the ball very quickly which has been a strong point for their attack , something which we will have to incorporate in our game.

Yep. The seem a bit closer to the more "modern" systems Barca, Real oder Dortmund have implemented.

The tasks of the centre forward have transformed within the last two years, the priority is not longer to score goals, the centre forward is the pivot point of the offense while attacking and giving the ball back to the offensive midfielders overtaking the centre forward. Nani and Valencia match perfectly into this system. Just as Müller and Schürrle do in the German National team.

But this is taking its time and i think Mata, Torres and Lukaku can do this as well.

I would swap nani and young for malouda and anelka. On current form you would have to swap rooney in somewhere....other than that i would say ours is better

The difference between our squads is that if we added Ashley Young, we'd be looking for him to come in and improve our play and even our players, whereas at united his game goes to a different level because of the team around him.

I would take our defense everyday over Utd's, but attacking and midfield wise they look stronger at the mo.

As much as i hate them, old red nose has a fantastic record with rejuvenating and reinventing utd through the years. Again this year he has had the confidence to sell a few of his older squad players (brown, o shea etc) and throw in a load of youngsters who have gelled almost immediately.

credit where credit is due, they have hit the ground running this season....but it is possible that they are already playing at their best and we have yet to move out of second gear.

In just under 3 weeks we will find out the answer to how our squad measures up against "Fergie's Babes"

they do appear to be extremely fast, gelling as a team, scoring at will etc. but then again CFC did this time last year

lets face it, the game at OT cannot be any worse than last season's Prem & CL outings or yesterday's humili8tion of the gooners

our comparatively "2-bob" squad may even surprise us yet

We have the bigger names they have the better players really.

Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck etc would all walk into our first 11. We have strikers that don't score and wingers who don't create. How the hell are our forwards better than theirs exactly?

Havent read through the whole thread yet but cant have that... welbeck is not better then sturidge!!
