Battersea bid

Chelsea Football Club can confirm to our fans that we have today submitted an offer, with our property development partner Almacantar, to acquire the 39-acre Battersea Power Station site.

Battersea Power Station is one of London's most famous buildings and has the potential to become one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world.

Our joint bid was submitted in accordance with the sales process established by the Joint Administrators for the site. The process could run for a number of months.

We are not the only interested parties and there is no certainty that we will be successful. We also appreciate that we have many significant hurdles to address if we are to build a new stadium on the site, including winning the support of our fans, the CPO shareholders and local Wandsworth residents, as well as securing the approval of Wandsworth Council, the Greater London Authority and heritage authorities. We must also stress that making an offer for the Battersea Power Station site does not mean the club has made a definitive decision to leave Stamford Bridge.

Working with architects and planning experts we have developed a plan to preserve all the significant aspects of Battersea Power Station. The four iconic chimneys and wash towers along with the Grade II* listed west turbine hall and control room will be restored and retained in their original locations and provide a unique architectural backdrop to a world-class stadium with a capacity of around 60,000 seats.

Following feedback from fans, our initial plans include a 15,000-all seated one-tier stand behind the south goal, likely to be the biggest one-tier stand in football. Also as suggested by many fans, the stadium proposed is rectangular in shape with four separate stands. The design includes a bigger family area and more room for disabled supporters.

As well as a new home for our club, the development would include a town centre with substantial street-level retail shops, affordable housing and offices - all of which would benefit Wandsworth and bring a significant number of permanent jobs to the area. We would also make a significant contribution towards the Northern Line Extension, a new high-volume transport link proposed for the area.

We will keep our fans updated as the process develops.

If this is a fact , although i would cry to leave the BRIDGE, i feel the time (3 yrs ? ) is now the right time to move upwards..Bigger crowds..Bigger income...Bigger success....Oh dear now im thinking again..Its too sad to contemplate

For me Id prefer Battersea to Earls court. The history battersea power station and its location would raise the profile of the club. Also, I like the idea of more of a old fashioned stadium instead of like wembley.

I dunno its an iconic site, just across the River, I live in Fulham and would miss the Bridge being there, but would much prefer this to the Old Oak common/White city option...They would have to keep the four chimneys which would be awesome. It seems we are going to have to move at some point, I think this is a great option...

Or what Mike said ^^

(plus I would still be just about in walking distance from the ground, selfish)

If this is the case its gonna be hard to have a drink before the game.I can only think of two or maybe three boozers in a 500 yard vicinity of the perposed site and the Kings road is a good mile and half away.

Stay at the bridge thats what i think if not, ain't Earl's court still an option?

I like the ideas of the stadium - 15,000 one tier stand (Dortmund-esq (BTW best stadium in the world!!))

But it would be a huge shame to leave the Bridge and going south of the river to me will not feel right.

That Dortmond end is 25k capacity (and an awesome sight) but it makes you wonder if anyone at the club did their history before stating it would 'likely be the biggest in world football'

Not sure if Dortmund is seating though?

But still an awesome sight as you say, went there for a game between Dortmund and Wolfsburg couldnt get anyway near a Dortmund stand so had to go in the away end and I have never seen a sight like that before at a football game.

Would be great if Chelsea could create that sort of atmosphere at a game if we were to move. Shame we do not at the moment, no way near what it used to be in the old Shed.

There is the opportunity to create a truly iconic stadium, espacially if they could keep the chimneys. However I have one question, would the CPO go for this option? If not could the powers that be afford to go alone or do they need to sell The Bridge to finance it?

There are 10 other bidders for the site so who knows what could happen.

Do you think the Yanks will have a say in who gets the land? Because litery just across the road, on the old Royal mail site that is where they are gonna build their new embassy.I dont think they would like a Russian billonaire as a neighbour.

I doubt if that will be a concern....

Ah yes, my bad - Dortmond is terraced.

Sorry Chels!

I think it has to be done. Love Stamford bridge and would ideally stay there, but if it can't be expanded, then the imposing financial fair play rules will cause problems for us. We need to increase our revenue to continue to compete at the top. The plan sounds good too, and not just a regurgitation of the Emirates. It has four separate stands so will be close to the pitch like Stamford Bridge. Also it sounds like they'll be distinct features such as the 15,000 one-tier South stand. It would be hard to leave the Bridge, but I think it's time to move on.

Whilst it would be sad to leave the Bridge we as fans have to accept that the club needs to grow its business whilst in a position of strength. We have at present a unique opportunity, thanks to Romans backing, of securing the future of the club whilst enjoying success on the pitch. A move is inevitable and this site isn't a bad option. In backing the move we as fans of the club will hand down a legacy to future Chelsea supporters. Onwards and upwards KTBFFH

Wow memories flood back...

I remember as a kid the b power station was supposed to have been earmarked for a theme park.

Those bloody zebra crossings on grosvenor square as well not so good memories of driving past the US Embassy going to work.

So many years ago..

Battersea powerstation if they did it right would be awesome IMHO.
