not giggs, scholes, keane, cantona...but our own franco zola...just been on sky saying he loved watching him play, said he summed up what the premier league is about and always played with a smile on his face...for once I agree with fergie...first time for everything!

premier league will officially announce best player of 20 years today which is why fergie talked about franco...sure it will go to cantona or shearer, but i think fergie was spot on!

SAF referred to Gianfranco as 'the little magician' in his own autobiography and was extermely complimentary about him generally.

He's spot on with his assessment, there are potential character flaws with a few of the others being mentioned, its difficult to make any such case against our man. As SAF said he played with a smile and genuinely looked like he just enjoyed himself - Let's hope many others think so too and he gets the award.

bollocks. Yeah Giggs has played loads and his longevity is excellent, but there are many players who have been better players than him in the PL and should have gotten it ahead of him. I probably would have gone for Henry because players like Zola didn't spend long enough here at their prime (he joined us at 30 and left at 36, imagine him joining us at 21!), but players who are better than Giggs aren't that hard to come across: Cantona, Shearer, Henry, Zola, Lamps (yes, definitely better than Giggs), Bergkamp (often overlooked, so f**king talented), Greasiano etc.

I can name about 100 players that have been better then Giggs . Just because he has won a lot and played for years it doesn't mean he is the best the Prem has ever seen.

Giggs is a deserved candidate from a pool of worthy winners. At any given time he has been one of the best players both overall and in his position throughout his career. Stellar player.

Although Giggs maybe hasn't been the best player in the Premier League era, you would be hard pushed to find a player that defines the premier league more.

You can easily put Makelele in that category as well. He played a game killing game but he did it with a smile on his face. Just have to love Maka. Brilliant player.
