rahim10 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Starting from next season will we begin to have a gold star above our crest? Only asking, as when i saw Terry in the parade his kit had a star above the Logo... Might have to buy one if we do ;) Cheers
KrazyTea Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I hope so as well, time to build our own stars of Europe.
TheWestwayWonder Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I've been meaning to ask this same question. For the record, I think it looks amazing. But is it really permanent? If other English clubs dont feature stars for European cups I dont think we should either. I would be fine with having it one year, but I dont like the idea of making it permanent.
Connoor Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Maybe if it was only on the Champions league kit? Don't even think that's possible.

There are other English teams that have stars for European Cups, though. For example:
Maksimov Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I would be fine with having it one year, but I dont like the idea of making it permanent. I think we should have a star on our Champions League shirts(but not any others). Not just next season, but whenever we're playing in the Champions League.

Eight Times Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I've got a feeling the star will be a limited version, for the fans, don't reckon it will be worn in games. The non-star version is still on the website. I'm desperate to get the star version, but £65!!?? Gonna wait for the one they actually wore in the final, to get reduced, then I'm going to frame it.
mclovin83 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 They ones with the star available on the website have the European Champions '12' on the back, can't see any shirts available with the star but not that writing on the back. I would like to get a shirt with a star on but think I would prefer Drogba on the back, even though it looks like he is almost certainly off I think it would just be a great shirt to pull ot in ten years time and reminisce, as that truly the best ever way you could sign off, if in fact that is what happens.
jmcfall Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 (edited) The star goes on the jersey. If anyone watching the game remembers, Bayren had 4 on theres. AC Milan have a star above the badge as well. Edited May 21, 2012 by jmcfall
TheWestwayWonder Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 JMC, Bayerns 4 stars are for 20+ title wins (five wins a star is how they do it) and the Italian system is a star for 10 league titles. Milan are close to a second star (18 titles) If they were about CL wins Milan would have run out of room long ago. There are other English teams that have stars for European Cups, though. For example: I remembered this. Villa did it after the fact but I like the fact that they integrated it with the badge. Forest and Liverpool also had stars on shirts for a while, but not permanently. It looks great on the new kit, but I just dont like the idea of it as a permanent thing, thats all.
NJBlue31 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I've been very curious about the star also. I think it looks great above the crest and in my opinion I think it is something we should keep on all the jerseys because of how incredibly special being crowned European champions is to the club. I've been reading that Italian teams do this, German teams do that but in the end stars are symbolic to the club and there are no rules or regulations that says one team can or cannot put a star anywhere. The star, if kept, will forever remind me of the utterly incredible European campaign Chelsea had in 2012 and when the great players of our club had their backs against the wall on numerous occasions and had to stare down defeat itself and STILL came out on top. If the comeback against Napoli, the holding off of Benfica, the historic 10 man draw against "the greatest team ever" and a final where we overcame a goal in the 83rd minute to win 4-3 on penalties in Bayern's HOME stadium doesn't warrant a symbolic star...well then, I'm not sure what does. We earned it because the 11 players on the field never lost faith and I think it should be remembered for as long as Chelsea plays football. A side note too, I just purchased the 12/13 home kit from the megastore with the star and got Drogba's name on the back because despite him moving on, I will always remember what he did for our club by wearing the first jersey he won't be. My way of saying thank you.
DoubleHelix74 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Thanks for the insight on the star... I thought Bayern's 4 stars were for its European titles... Either way, wear it one year, along with the patch, and then retire it until 2013-2014 when we sow another into the shirt! Will Chelsea sell a shirt with CL Winners patch along with the star? Want to order a shirt but don't want to do it prematurely.

Like Aston Villa, Marseille wear a star signifying their Champions League title. I really don't see an argument against it. I'm honestly surprised that some people wouldn't like it being a permanent addition. Edited May 22, 2012 by That Boy Brandinho
BrewCrew Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Does anybody have a picture of what ours looks like with the star?

EdinburghBlue Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I think it looks really smart with the star, we should keep it! Also just to remind everyone, we made history!
Blueregard Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I remember Barcelona had a patch in the center. Was it for winning the champions league or club world cup?
NJBlue31 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I really want to say that the gold patch on Barca's shirt was for the FIFA Club World Cup. I am only going off memory and what I thought I saw when I looked at in when we played them though. I'm 90% sure that the trophy on their gold patch was the World Cup trophy and had 'FIFA' underneath of it which is why I think this. Does anybody know what the Champion's patch for the CL looks like because I surprisingly don't recall seeing anything special from Barca's jersey outside that gold patch on their chest.

Its a change to the ball made of stars CL logo thing we wear, not terribly impressive like the prem champions get the lion logo in gold. Here it is on Inters.
