Ivanovic in Opta Premier League Team of the Year

Featured Replies

The results of the right back comparison show that Ivanovic is the clear winner in the right back comparison, with Zabaleta coming in second

.

Ivanovic has won 68% of his ground 50-50s this season, which is 5% more than Sagna and 9% more than Walker. He has also won 77% of his aerial 50-50s this season, which is 3% more than Richards and 7% more than Sagna.

Ivanovic has also completed the highest percentage of his passes out of any of the right backs in this comparison as he has completed 83.44% of his passes this season. This is 0.41% better than Zabaleta and 0.45% better than Rangel. He has also been accurate with 30% of his crosses this season, which is 2% more accurate than Simpson and 7% more accurate than Sagna.

RB has been pretty poor for the Prem this season so i am not surprised Ivanovic got it.

Well that's a very negative way to look at it.

He does everything well, which is why I think he's underrated. He may not excel in any one category (besides the ability to cast a glare of unadulterated Serbian man-bear ragetred) but he doesn't have a critical flaw either. Truly one of the best transfers we've ever made.

Defensively Ivan is solid as RB. Could be better going forward perhaps, but seeing as our defence hasn't been the best I'd take solid defence over all out attack from the RB.

One thing that surprised me is the stats for Terry and Luiz.

JT only having about 68% successful tackles and Luiz having over 82%. To me that sounds like they've mixed those two up somehow. JT might not have been as great as past seasons, but to me he's been solid and I know I'm not the only one who have criticised Luiz for making mistakes.

And Skrtel & Koscielny as centre backs doesn't sound too great to me.

That doesn't seem odd at all to me. Luiz is a brilliant defender most of the time. He gets way too much stick for his errors. There are so few center halves who can do what he does and, as a result, there's not much of a basis for comparison. In order to test his limits, to learn what he can and can't get away with, he needs to make mistakes. Growing pains, sure, but necessary ones.

I don't think Ivanovic is bad at all going forward. His crossing could improve, but he's at least average in that respect and he's got quite the nose for goal. Who can forget his multi-goal performance against Liverpool a few years back or his winner against Napoli?

There are many stoppers who are better statistically and physically than Terry, but you can't measure leaders ability and mental strength. Still holds Terry as top 5 central defenders in the world all in all.

And Ivanovic. I think his goal bar celebration sums it up. Ivan Drago.

I agree and disagree

Great player, probably one of our best transfers and as reliable as the tide but I don't think he is underrated. It's not a coincidence he has made team of the year and is one of the leading contenders for fans player of the year because it's obvious for all to see that the guy is ace

Clearly the Premier League's right back department still hasn't recovered from the departure of Mario Melchiot.
