Shakhtar's Luiz Adriano One Match Ban

Featured Replies

What a load of bullsh*t. Yeah he was a dick for what he done but what about all these cheating divers, for example Barcelona ? Also what he did wasn't exactly against the rules, if it is then surely the ref should be banned for a few games for letting the goal stand.

Double standards from UEFA as usual.

So UEFA are damned if they did ban him, and damned if they didn't.

Shaktar are already through Syd. This doesn't hurt them or him at all, but it does, potentially hurt us and help Juventus. I know the bods at UEFA are aware of this.

They have should have banned him, (and for more than one game IMO), after the group stage is completed. That would have been the correct and fair decision.

Good news for sportsmanship, that was a serious Douchebag move that would have had Suarez saying "Man, f**k you".

I actually thought Suarez was going to do it against Swansea on the weekend, drop kick in the 92nd minute at 0-0, he just started dribbling it towards the Swansea goal with all of the Swansea players stood around helpless, luckily he did just tap it to the goalkeeper rather than having a shot on goal! (and then chased down the goalkeeper, which I guess under the circumstances was fair game)

To be fair they haven't won the group yet so it is still a competetive game, and one they will care about.

Uefa could hardly say 'oh, this game against Juventus isn't all that important we will wait and give it to them the game after that'

When was the last time a ban was given out for an incident like this? I didn't think he had technically broken any rules?

Can someone please explain why we need Shacktar to beat Juve? They are on ten points and we are on 7, they may have a 4 goal advantage but surely Juve would just have to beat them and we stick a few goals past Nordsjaelland for us to go through second in the group on goal difference?? :S

We need to win and they need to win for us to qualify, that the only way we can progress.

Not sure why but they talked about it after the game.

If two teams finish on the same points, it will be the games between those teams that determine which one finish above the other.

If Shakhtar lose and Chelsea win they will have the same amount of points. Since Shakhtar won 2-1 at home and we won 3-2 at home, which gives us 4-4, but with Shakhtar having scored more away goals, which will then put them ahead of us.

And seeing as that scenario will only happen if Juventus wins, that will make Juventus top of the group and Shakhtar taking the 2nd place, making us end 3rd.

A draw between Juventus and Shakhtar wont help either, because that will give Shakhtar 11 points, and Juventus 10. If we win we will also have 10 points, but have only got one point from the games against Juventus, making us 3rd in the group.

Only if Shakhtar wins (giving them 13 points), and we win (giving us 10 points) can we advance as 2nd placed team in the group, ahead of Juventus (on 9 points).

I really don't know why they don't use goal difference in the Champions League.

With only 6 matches played head-to-head record is fairer than goal difference. Otherwise one freak result against a completely third party team could decide it.

Yeah, you're probably right. I thought about that after I had posted that last one. Still, it really confuses a lot of people. Nowadays we're so used to things being determined by goal difference.
