The return continues. Massive effort by everyone involved at Ibrox this season. Congratulations on securing another title, crowned League One Champions on the 12 March - magnificent league season for the Bears.

Well done Rangers. Going back to where they belong. Several members of my family in Larkhall will be getting drunk tonight. For those who don't know the place it's town south of Glasgow and Rangers through and through. WATP

I think this season will prove to be the toughest for Rangers and Rangers fans in many ways.  Last year, we had the sense of injustice and the pulling together of the Rangers family to get everyone through.  This season, in League One, was the least attractive part of the journey but the effort to go this far unbeaten in the League and to secure the title in early March has been fantastic.  Ally has his detractors but to be fair he has pulled the club through once again.  Next season will be harder on the pitch but a return to the SPHell will be on the horizon with a few games against the Jambos to keep spirits up.

Match report from Rangers official site on tonight's title-clincher:

Rangers 3-0 Airdrieonians

RANGERS have clinched the League One title after a 3-0 victory over Airdrieonians at Ibrox took Ally McCoist’s side to 80 points at the top of the table.

With second place Dunfermline only able to reach 78 points if they win their remaining fixtures the Light Blues are the champions of Scottish football’s third tier with eight league games to spare.

Super skipper Lee McCulloch marked the occasion by scoring a sensational first half hat-trick and although there were no more goals in the second period there was a party atmosphere throughout the 90 minutes.

After the disappointment of drawing with Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday there was certainly a reaction from the home side as they put in a strong display to get over the finish line.

McCoist named Andy Little in his starting eleven alongside top scorer Jon Daly and it was the Ulsterman’s energy that won Rangers a penalty after just a minute of play.

Little latched on to David Templeton’s long ball and as he entered the 18-yard box Grant Adam came rushing from his line and clattered into him with a late challenge.

McCulloch quickly grabbed the ball and from 12 yards he sent the Diamonds keeper the wrong way with a perfectly executed spot kick.

It was just the start the Ibrox faithful wanted to see and on 19 minutes they doubled their advantage when McCulloch blasted home an almost identical penalty.

Lee Wallace fed the ball down the left wing to Templeton and when he cut inside his marker with a sharp turn he was brought down by a clumsy tackle.

Ref Brian Colvin again made the correct decision and McCulloch hammered the ball high into the net before celebrating in front of jubilant fans in the Broomloan Stand.

The two-goal advantage was certainly deserved at this early stage with every player in blue using the ball well and pushing forward with intent at every opportunity.

Airdrie, who had won their seven previous league games, were struggling to cope with the speed of the Gers attacks with Fraser Aird, Nicky Law and Templeton providing support to the strikers and Wallace and Richard Foster using their pace to good effect to get up and down the park as the pressure continued.

On 35 minutes it was Little who moved out wide and when he crossed to Law his shot brought out a comfortable save from Adam who was having a busy first half.

With five minutes remaining McCulloch had completed his terrific hat trick. Little did well to find his skipper in the 18-yard box and he managed to get a low shot away to beat the visitor’s number one.

Ibrox was now rocking but before the break McCoist was forced to make two substitutions with Little and Templeton pulling up with injuries. They were immediately replaced by Arnold Peralta and Nicky Clark who only had a short run-out before the ref blew for the interval.

The Rangers fans gave their team a standing ovation as they walked up the tunnel and as they walked back out they got off their seats again to belt out Penny Arcade before the action resumed.

Remarkably it was McCulloch who again had his side’s first goalscoring opportunity of the second half. Aird’s corner landed at the feet of his skipper but his fizzed shot from 16 yards was blocked before it could trouble Adam.

It was now wave after wave of Gers attacks and when the lively Aird found the overlapping Wallace with a great pass the left back’s near post shot brought out a good save from Adam.

The Rangers fans were clearly enjoying what they were seeing and on 54 minutes Mohsni produced a moment of class in the last third.

The big defender played an excellent one-two with Clark to get in behind Airdrie’s defence but his low shot across goal bounced off the far post and back to him again. He then pulled another shot wide before putting his arms out in mock celebration as he ran back to the half-way line!

Clark was busy on his return to action and after a lull in proceedings his shot from 20 yards with five minutes remaining was to be the last real chance of the game.

At the final whistle the bears again stood to applaud their side as 'We Are The Champions' blared out from the Ibrox PA system. Lee McCulloch will undoubtedly grab the headlines for his treble this evening but it was an excellent team display from Ally McCoist's side and the players and coaching staff did a lap of honour to complete a great night's work.

It’s A Wonderful Feeling

ALLY MCCOIST could not hide his pride and joy after his Rangers side became League One champions tonight following their 3-0 victory over Airdrieonians.

The manager joined his players and coaching staff on the pitch after the final whistle to join in the celebrations and he took part in a lap of honour in front of the Ibrox faithful.

The party then continued in the home dressing with McCoist getting drenched in champagne before he chatted to the media in Ibrox Stadium’s press room.

A sensational first-half hat trick from captain Lee McCulloch was enough to give the Light Blues the crucial win which took them over the finish line and the gaffer believes it was a terrific display against Gary Bollan’s in-form Diamonds.

He said: “We’re delighted, absolutely delighted, not only to wrap the title up but I think the manner we wrapped it up tonight, particularly in the first half, was really pleasing.

“We’re thrilled for the staff, players and the supporters. It’s been a terrific league campaign and I thought we finished it well tonight.

“It’s certainly an achievement to win the title. I wouldn’t really be qualified to say how big an achievement it is but it is certainly one we set out to do and needed to do.

“It’s part of the journey back. I think we have 26 wins from 28 games so that is a good achievement you would have to say. Dunfermline have done well because we might even have won it earlier with statistics like that.

“So the players deserve an absolutely enormous amount of credit and it’s been a great night for them and indeed the supporters.

“I don’t think it was that important because of Sunday, Sunday we have gone over. We just wanted to win the title as quickly as we possibly could. We have done that and we’re delighted with the manner we did it tonight.

“Winning things is a wonderful feeling no matter what it is or where it is. These are all championships we have to win to get back to where we want to be in the top flight.

“These are stages in our recovery which must be met so I think it’s only fair they should be celebrated as you would winning any league.

“We have boys in there in the dressing room who are winning their first league and the majority of players will go through their careers and not win leagues.

“So our boys are well within their rights to really enjoy tonight and we’ll make sure they do.â€

With the title well and truly wrapped up, the only question now as far as the league goes is whether Rangers can go the whole of the season unbeaten.

Against Dunfirmline today, Ally McCoist makes five changes from the team that beat Airdrie, no doubt with Monday night's replay in mind. At half time of a highly physical contest, Rangers lead 1-0 thanks to a cracker of a free kick from Steve Smith, near enough on the stroke of half time.

I always knew he had the makings of a champion!

Just a reminder of why mention of the game against Dunfermline was made in this thread:

Congatulations to Calum Gallagher for scoring on his Rangers Debut, adding to Steve Smith's goal in first half injury time, to make the final score: Rangers 2-0 Dunfermline. Match report here

Yeah you do that.

And when you get back, you can tell us all about what it was like down the front.

well, I haven't bothered because I don't think there'll be any news about us. Down the front where ?

I'm quite certain you know exactly what I'm getting at.

Maybe you should find out what goes on here before making what I'm sure you consider to be witty remarks but which actually portray you as rude and ignorant.

By the way, the only ilderton I know of is Ilderton Road, the away end at the Old Den. Something of a strange user name for a Chelsea fan to choose, to say the least of it.

I'm not with you Tommy...where have I been rude and ignorant ?

If this is a sensitive thread let me know, I don't want to upset anyone.....I never knew Ilderton Road was the away end at the Den (let em come), what a coincidence.

The former member who started this thread claimed not to want to upset anyone either, just as he claimed not to have wanted to upset anyone.

I suppose you're going to tell me you didn't notice the name of this forum section when you advised SDMC to "try a Glasgow ranger site".

And of course you never, ever wondered to yourself why this particular Chelsea site has a Rangers section. Why should you, when the answers are there for all to see. But you of course didn't even notice a "Why Rangers?" thread, just as you'd never previously heard of Ilderton Road. Oh yes, What a coincidence. Life's full of 'em.

You pal, are a bullsh*tter.

blimey Tommy, that some response !!....I haven't got a clue what you're on about to be fair, but it looks like you've got a load off your chest....yeah, I suggested to that guy that he might have more luck on a Rangers site....what's wrong with that?....is that being"rude and ignorant"?

As for that link you posted, there doesn't seem to be anything there to upset anyone, come on Tommy, man up !

Rudeness and ignorance applies to your inference that there shouldn't be a Rangers section on a Chelsea site.

As your Downthefront incarnation put it: "It looks like mugs". Downthefront was also insistent that the link between the two sets of fans was either non-existent or based on right-wing bigotry, factors whch have nothing whatever to do with this site or the existence on this site of a Rangers section.

This has already been explained in detail several times before. And so there is no reason whatever to go through it all over again. The infomation is there, take the trouble to find out. And if you don't like the existence of a Rangers section on this particular Chelsea site, either ignore it or claim to the forum owner.

To answer your other question. I refer to him as a former member because he's been banned. Why I don't know. Possibly because his continued harping on about Combat 18 and the like.

huh ?....where have I questioned the existence of a Rangers thread?....you're getting yourself in a state over something that was not said.

What's wrong with you ?

I'm not sure why you felt the need to go thru your history with that other member, but thanks anyway.

Anything else I should know ?
