Arsenal could have been 3 up if it were not for our 50 million hero.
boulderbollocks Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Agree with those except for Maka, I thought he did ok.
The Brit Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 I would give robben an 8 but then there are people on here who will probably give him a 4...you know who you are
barak81 Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Agree with most of it brit but i would actually have chec as man of the match, stood no chance with the goal but made some world class stops and most importantly was immence when coming for crosses. Id also have robben on at least an 8, thought the game changed when he came on and we where really able to take it to them!! Steped up and performed when it matterd!!
The Brit Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 Agree with those except for Maka, I thought he did ok. I don't think jose will agree, that's why he changed him for robben...maka was nowhere to be seen as the arse swamped midfield and attacked our back four time and time again in the first half
The Brit Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 yes I think I was too stingy on cech...so many things happened in the game I forgot some of his superb saves...definitely an 8

What you say is true....but also true is that our back four were over-run countless times in the first half, with our entire midfield missing. They were all to blame (Essien,Maka,Lamps,Ballack) but this is more specifically Maka's responsibility. I hate saying something bad about a true Chelsea LEGEND, but this game he was poor. I don't grudge him that though, he could do a Winston Bogarde before I thought any less of him.
The Brit Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 maka is and always will be a chelsea legend, but he has not been playing well of late and he was nowhere to be seen as arsenal ran at our back four in the opening 45

Lol......true.....I should have used seperate posts for that
boulderbollocks Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Well, I might concede that he wasn't at his best but I maintain he wasn't as bad as you claim. As you say, it's not just his responsibilty when you have players like Ballack strolling about doing nothing.
loz Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I agree with boulderbollocks - no denying it was far from Maka's finest shift in a blue shirt however in a game like today I think it is harsh to lay the majority of the blame on him for not protecting the back four. Lamps, Ballack and Essien let so much get past them that Maka was often swamped - he didn't have a chane of protecting the back line a lot of the time.
Guest Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Cech 7.5 - I thought he was good. He made some fantastic saves, looked solid and saved Chelsea's ass a few times Diarra 8.5 - Fantastic game, granted his was against Traore who was poor but he really did look the goods. I really think Chelsea need to hold onto him as he could well grow into a top class player for the club Terry 6 - I would have given him a 5 but for an extra sympathy point for his injury. His a great player but he just wasn't fit out there and hence got turned way too easilly by his opponent Carvalho 9 - MOM. He was fantastic and saved Chelsea multiple times during the match. Bridge 6 - Not a great game for Bridgey. I don't think he provided much going forward and struggled to cope with Walcott defensively Maka 5.5 - Put in a few good challenges but really struggled to keep pace with Baptista. Subbing him off was right IMO and I really think his days at Chelsea is numbered Lamps 6 - Really didn't see him do too much of note offensively. Like all of our central midfielders, didn't do enough. Ballack 5.5 - I really have my doubts he will make it Chelsea. He just seems to lack the pace to get around the ground and involved in play. Though im sure the formation doesn't help either. Essien 7.5 - The pick of the central midfielders (which isn't saying much). Coped well in the Makelele role and was okay once switched into defence. Sheva 5 - Invisible most of the match and just isn't suited to going out wide in search of the ball Drogba 8 - Matchwinner. Took his opportunities well (especially the second) and played pretty well and was (besides the goals) still one of Chelsea's better players. Subs: Robben 8.5 - Game changer. I think he really did very very well and more than that, his mere presence pressuring out wide gave Chelsea a much needed outlet out wide to give the ball when being pressured centrally. Mikel 6 - Played pretty well when he came on. I did however deduct a point for getting himself sent off Kalou ? - Wasn't on for long enough
g3.7 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 carvalho waas playing for both him and terry- JT did not look right at all. 9, motm. 17 million nesta-eque tackles to go with a peformance anyone would be proud of. drogba- quite quiet, but clinical, 8.5. robben also changed the game, but I've given up on him. 0 maka, from where I sat, was one of the only players to be alert and alvie for us in the first half- essien would have been a better candidate to come off at the time, likewise diarra. ballack was good I felt. nice assist for the equaliser and used the ball very well. better than lamps. 7.5. cech was great, really did play an important part. 8.5. mikel, also, was good- marked adebayor in aerial situations and played neat stuff. he's going to be a hell of a player, make no mistake.
yogic Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Diarra and Ricardo were AWESOME - 10/10 Drogba is going to cross the 30 goal mark .. what a fantastic season!
Oblivion Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 G4, Ballack was good????? 2 great passes the whole game and you call that good. Lamps had to do a lot of defending and he did that well. True he was poor going forward until the last 20 minutes but Ballack was rubbish. Slow on the pass, generally poor distribution, lazy, slow.....the list goes on.....I hope your just being sarcastic Same with your comments on Robben Mikel can be a great player, but, like Rooney, needs to curb his temper. He could easily have gotten Toure sent off, just by not reacting, but he did, and made a has of the thing. I'm sure JM would have bit his head off later on.
The Moos Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I actually have to disagree with those slagging off Maka. He didn't have one of his better games, that I can admit, but I thought he helped out Diarra quite well. Diarra sometimes need support on his side because he doesn't get it from a winger. Maka's there and provides that help. Even if he doesn't make the final tackle or is not even near the ball his presence helps Diarra to do his job. So Makas individual rating is perhaps 5 but his team rating is atleast 7 or 8.
g3.7 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 obliv, no, not joking. seen the match twice and ballack barely misplaced a pass and generally was one of the calm heads when we were panicking a bit. too easy too complain about him, but actually, in truth he was better in midfield than essien and lampard. rooney is only 21 and mikel is only 19. they will both be great players.
just Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Wouldn't give Carvalho MOTM. Felt he was all over the place for Walcott's goal. Chasing the ball around like a school kid rather than holding his position and marking anyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDz783DexXs Drogs MOTM for me. I not usually the biggest "Ballack Basher" but agree with most on here who said Ballack was poor. One of the first things he did in the game was give the ball away under no pressure, and he didn't get alot better from there.
Oblivion Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I suppose my lazy is someone else's cool head. The jury is still out on Ballack, and it doesn't look good.
barak81 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I actually though cave made a few mistakes, and a cople of rash chalenges that i suppose come with the terratry where he is concerned. On drogs being quite, i dont think so, constant menace for them and won pretty much everything comeing his way!!
Nibs Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Would agree with a lot of the comments posted. The feeling at the final whistle was one of relief, 'cos after the first 15/20 minutes i feared we were gonna be completely hammered. Hats off to Arsenal, they made some of our players look totally past their best (and perhaps some of them are?) We didn't look at the races and a couple of times it was embarrasing watching the shear ease they were going passed our players. On another day we could have easily been three down before half time. Thankfully we weren't, mainly due to Cech and Carvalho. I've been critical of Robben many times but boy was I glad to see him second half. If he hadn't come on at half time, I really don't think we would have gone on to win it. He made a huge impact and suddenly Arsenal had something to worry about other than Drogba and Diarra who were the only players who seemed to cause them any problems in the first half. Thought all of the midfield were poor first half. Great decision by JM to take Maka off it was between him and Ballack. Ballack might have made one or two decent passes, but he has no pace whatsoever and time and time again, Gooners were going passed him we ease and the only way he could get near them was to foul them. Lamps was little better, but you always feel Lamps could at least produce a goal (and nearly did). And Essien had one of his poorest games too and actually did better when he switched to centre back. For me, the players that deserve most credit are: Cech 9 - kept us in the game and his presence makes all the difference when we are up against it - totally commanding. Diarra 9 - hardly gave a ball away all afternoon. Composed on the ball and made some great forraging runs that at least took the pressure of us. He also knows when to hoof it out when need be!! Carvalho 8.5 - great display and made many important tackles - notably the one in the box in the first half of Alialidare (or whatever his name in). If he'd got that wrong it was 2-0 and game over. Robben 8.5 - changed the game and if he hadn't come on we wouldn't have won. Lets hope he can do this more often. Drogba 9 - quiet first half other than the goal but he really imposed himself as the game went on and WHAT a header. Love the bloke!!!
midlandblue Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I suppose my lazy is someone else's cool head. The jury is still out on Ballack, and it doesn't look good. it's not the verdict of the jury that matters, it's the judge (j.m.) that has the final say and so far he says "yes".
