2012- 2015. Not good enough or good business ?

Courtois and Cahill obviously still here though Cahill's place under massive threat from Zouma.

Don't know if Wallace and Piazon are still on loan but i'd be massively surprised if they were to come back. That's a lot of talent who for one reason or another are no longer with us.

+ Hazard, Oscar, Costa, Fabregas, Matic, Willian, and Azpilicueta. The club has been on fire since 2012.

To be fair, five of those players still belong to the club (two are still first-choice) and we made Â£155.1m off the other six, which is outrageous considering none of them were starters (except arguably Luiz) when they left the club.

Add the £24m we got for Schurrle onto that and we have made a stonking £179.1m selling backup players!

What exactly are you asking?

You're listing players that have been sold, a couple on loan and a couple in the team.

Courtois

Wallace Luiz Cahill Bertrand

Piazon Mata McEchran

Sturridge Lukaku De-Bruyne

And now

------------Courtois---------

Ivanovic----Cahill---Terry----Azpi

-----------Matic----Fabregas-------

Willian--------Oscar---------Hazard

--------------Costa----------

I'd say it was both a case of 'not good enough' for most bar Sturridge and Mata while it was great business for the lot.

Bertrand is as good or better then Fillipe Luiz. Sturridge is far better then Remy or an octogenarian Drogba. De Bruyne is going to be the one who got away. If he was given a chance would be far better then the massively overrated Fabregas or for that matter Oscar who's natural game is being compromised because of yawn work ethic. Sturridge has got an ego on parallel with Simon Cowell but so what all the best sportsman have. There's only room for one massive ego at Chelsea i'm afraid. I'm still gutted Mata was let go even though it was good business and before anyone says he hasn't done well at Man Utd (he hasn't) but with Van Gaal in charge who just seems to buy players and play them in the wrong position (De Maria) well it's not surprising.

We've got a terrible record of bringing young players through and altough it's endemic in the English game i can't see that changing anytime soon. And Moi hi there do you think it was good business?

Great Business ..........everyone else is looking on at us with envy as we have a youth academy that works , beating the FFP rules , no longer have to fork out massive fee's for 5/6 players each summer (man utd).

Oh yes he is

Bertrand has nothing close to Luis' quality on the ball, nor is his passing anywhere as good. I hadn't noticed just how good Luis' left foot was when he was at Atletico, it only really hit me during the Burnley game.

Sturridge is far better then Remy or an octogenarian Drogba.

Drogba has more quality and nous in one massive testicle than Sturridge does in his entire body.

We wouldn't be five points clear at the top of the league without this team work ethic... also the work ethic doesn't seem to have affected Fabregas, who has been both the best creative player in the league this season as well as having covered the most ground of any player in the Premier League this season.

Just out of interest (although I'm sure I can guess your answer), what is your opinion of Willian?

For the first team maybe but what we have actually done is raised the bar and expectation for young players who don't make the Chelsea first team squad.

A Chelsea academy player is now recognised as a talented footballer , if Chelsea want him he must be good. Not all will make the first team squad but they will leave the academy joining clubs at the top end of the football scale , they are not ending up at Wycombe , Barnet , Brentford they are going to big clubs if not here abroad. That is why young players are desperate to become part of the academy set up . That speaks volumes on what great business it is

The business in that time period has been exceptionally good. Sure you could point to Sturridge leaving but that's probably the only real mistake we made and was a direct consequence of the Torres debacle which happened back in 2011 under a different regime.

Since then we've done phenomenally well. Mata wasn't cut out for a top team and the money we got for him was remarkable work, same goes for David Luiz and Lukaku. The De Bruyne money was good considering he didn't seem to have the desire to stay and fight for a spot whilst even deals for Hazard and Bertrand were great business. On that note Bertrand has looked ok in the Southampton team, but rarely more than that. Not saying the Luis deal was good business but I don't think you can compare the two.

The one bit of business that has been poor and not mentioned so far is the Willian deal. Overpaid for what he contributes to the team (a bit like Luis).

But no team is perfect and so many teams look to us as an example of overhauling a squad without overpaying.

Of those players listed by the OP that have been sold this is their sale prices:

Luiz - £50m
Bertrand - £10m
Mata - £37m
Sturridge - £12m
Lukaku - £28m
De-Bruyne - £18m

That's £155m

How many teams can say they've raised that much money through player sale in such a short space of time and made their starting XI stronger?

I'll save you the bother, the answer is none.

Brilliant business.

If you ask me what he contributes to the team i think of The Smiths Willian It Was Really Nothing

You certainly like asking questions, not so keen on answering though.

Great business from 2012 - 2015 and beyond.

That is hilarious but inaccurate - have you wondered why we're suddenly so good at winning the ball high up the pitch and maintaining possession in the opposition half?

Not now mate as much as i love Drogba he's not half the player he was. His first touch has gone he'd have trouble trapping a dead mouse.

No but i don't watch football as if i'm a pundit. I watch the game and see a 30 million quid footballer run around around a lot and not do much else save for the very occasional goal.

Drogba has been useful and his skill set will change enabling him to be utilised in another role at the club.

If there was a contest between Drogba and us, to trap dead mice, the money would not be on you or me!
