Get a half decent one from lower leagues or over here in Northern Ireland or Scotland you would be surprised isn't it here that Pat Jennings came from and many more there's a Northern Ireland goalkeeper playing in the 3rd div he once played for man utd till Ferguson ruined him but he is used to the big occasion and I am sure that he would jump at the chance

How is he not?

He's played in the EPL for a few seasons, he's been tested at international level too.

What exactly do you want for a second choice keeper who will get single figure appearances throughout a season? Petr Cech? That's never happening.

We will have a solid enough back up keeper to a top class one.

That's the norm is it not?

He's been consistently pretty poor in the Premier League, goes through patches of good shot-stopping but that's about it. Our game against QPR was a pretty good illustration of how his all-round game is lacking. Plus we will be playing at European level too, where he has no experience at all. We will have an unreliable backup goalkeeper with a history of errors. Simply not good enough for a team that wants to be challenging on all fronts. If Courtois got a serious injury we would be f**ked.

 

He has definitely not been tested at international level, he has a handful of caps and one World Cup appearance, and was so awful that he was immediately dropped.

Who do you think would join who's better and has more experience than Green?

Baring in mind they are only likely to play a handful of games in a season.

Friedel? Vorm? Schwarzer? Hamer? Hennessey?

 

Half the teams in the league have backups who are better than Green, Tottenham have f**king two! We have the added lure of actually being in contention for trophies.

See to me none of those names are any more relevant than Green.

Friedel is pushing 44 while Mark Schwarzer is a year behind at 43. That's maybe a season at best being back up before the gloves are hung up.

What you have with Green is an able keeper who is freeing up a non home-grown squad place which is crucial and someone who would be happy with the limited playing time I'd imagine as he'd want a few medals in his locker.

I'd take Vorm but he's at spurs and I don't see him moving from one place he is second choice to another plus why would Spurs accept it in any case?

Didn't Vorm cost his side a replay against Leicester with his error? My opinion - he doesn't fit the profile of a Chelsea keeper....or he's too short in other words.

 

This Fulham keeper seems like a possibility but Green is perfectly adequate.

Is that Bettinelli? I've never seen him but heard us linked to him. Is he any good? Looking at the stats it seems like it's only this season that he's been an established starter at Fulham.

 

Presumably Vorm will be waiting in the wings in the event that Lloris goes to Man Utd so he might be reluctant to go in the summer. If he doesn't the potential of medals may prove to be effective bait. 

 

Butland is second choice at Stoke behind Begovic. I think Sorensen is still knocking around there as well. I do wonder what will happen there, Begovic has been consistently brilliant and presumably someone with the hope of playing for England won't be content playing second fiddle at Stoke. I'm not suggesting he would come here but surely he will eventually move to a team who can guarantee him a starting spot if Begovic doesn't leave.

 

Regarding the height issue... let's not forget Peter Bonetti!
