True Detective 2

I absolutely loved season 1.

This one however seems to be more fast paced and I thought there was a little too much happening in the first episode for me to keep up with. Was left pretty confused during the episode so will re watch before the second.

Got mixed reviews so far but think it's because it's a bit different to the last one and obviously the pace it's moving at.

I thought the first episode was fairly straight forward, what didn't you understand?

I don't expect it to be as good as the first season, simply because the cast can't match up to McConaughey and Harrelson, but it looks pretty good so far.

Quite a few things.

It kept jumping to 4 characters in an hour episode and tried to fit in as much about them as they could which left me scratching my head at some parts.

It was the complete opposite from the first series in that TD1 started as a slow burner.

I will give it another watch and I'm sure it will not disappoint as the season goes on.

First episode spoilers

Vince Vaughn is a gangster trying to go legitimate, owns a casino, trying to sort out a deal with the russian bloke in regards to the railway line (i'm sure that will be expanded upon, we haven't got the full picture as to what thats about yet)

Colin Farrell is a bent detective who trades information with Vince Vaughn, has a chubby ginger son that gets bullied and a wife that was raped.

Rachel McAdams is a county sheriff with a lunatic father and a sister who is a cam girl

Taylor Kitsch is a highway patrol officer who was suspended for the fiasco with the actress

Spent first half of episode getting to grips with how this is a completely different style of show to the first season...by the end there were enough seeds planted by the characters to promise more to come..thought Colin Farrell stole the show...still to be convinced that vince Vaughan is up to the task

Farrell was no doubt the best thing about this so far, just like I thought Rusty was in the first one from the start.

When he beat that bullies dad up it was brutal, even when he was screaming at his son calling him a fat bas**rd so he'd give the name of the bully up was intense!

He has obviously got a dark past with the death and rape of his wife and hunting down the guy who done it (Not sure if he got him or if I missed it in the episode).

I'll be disappointed if that is the case as he's been the most engaging character thus far. I'd be very surprised though - wearing a vest possibly?

It's saying he is in all 8 episdoes so I am guessing it will go along the lines of what happened to him before he got killed type thing. He wouldn't survive a point blanks shotgun to the belly even if wearing a vest (which I doubt he was), plus he was shot twice.

He got blasted in the stomach, he's probably wearing a vest. Or he could have been blasted with rock salt, like in Kill Bill... as that person is a known torturer right? He is too big a character to kill off, especially so early.

Well, good stuff he's not dead. Is anyone finding this a bit harder to follow this season? Maybe my mind wandered, but in places I am wondering why they are in certain places and who are these people they are talking to!!

I dont like Vince Vaughan as a thug gangster. Im just waiting for him to have a punch line at the end of each one of his sentences and he doesnt play the roe particularly well

Its watchable but not as good as the first so far, which is understandable

I'm the same mate. With it jumping to each character all the time and looking into each characters past my head at times seems frazzled as to what is actually going on.

I think I'll need to watch them back to back to follow them better, the weeks break between episodes isn't helping matters.

So far I really like the storytelling. Yes, it forces you to ponder what's happening and to try and fill up the blank spots but that's half the fun. I love stories where everything is not explained and you have to interpret it for yourself and come up with theories on the fly. There should be more series like this.

Don't really understand wtf is happening in the show anymore.

I think the acting and plot has been vastly inferior to season 1 so far and we're already half way through the season. I'm hoping it is all leading up to a grand revelation, which i'm sure it will, however season 1 was more engaging even in the earlier episodes when characters and plots were being established.

The actors were better in season 1, but the story is more realistic in season two. It's also more entertaining, constantly building new theories on the fly is half the fun. I smile every time they surprise me and I have to rethink all my ideas.

I found season 1 far more entertaining, far more suspenseful too.

Especially that episode mid way through the season where they made you suspect that Rusty had been playing everyone all along
