True Detective 2

Featured Replies

Can finally get involved in this thread now I'm up to date.

Didn't have a clue what was going on til about episode 3 of season 2. Episode 4 was brilliant, glad it was because I was beginning to lose interest. Not a patch on season 1 so far but I'm finding it watchable, especially McAdams who I think is very good in this.

It's a nice change to see Vaughn play a straight role for once.

Watched the third episode last night, not going to lie I don't even know what it's about.

I get that they've merged task forces because they all had an interest in the old boy who died but I don't really know why... I'm so caught up in trying to follow who everyone is I don't even know the significance of his dying in the first place.

All we've got is these four main characters whose premise seems to be built on past incidents haunt them leading to large character flaws.... And that's about it after three episodes.

Am I missing something?

I watched episode 5 last night, a bit better but still not sure whats fully going on. A few things are beginning to sort of tye together....maybe.

too many sub plots surrounding the characters makes it hard to follow....but I think I have the general gist of what's going on...land deals, drugs and sex...that's about the norm.

Watched episode 5 and finally a few things are starting to make sense and come together a bit.

I think the main issue has been that 4 main characters has meant that it's been too difficult to track what each of them is all about and what's going on. Personally I think the show would have worked better had it been about Ray Velcoro and Frank Semyon and not had another two characters on the fringes just further confusing things.

Had episode 5 finished and left me still feeling too in the dark about everything I think I would have given up on the series in truth. I'm hoping that things come into focus more like with episode 5 for the remainder of the season.

Have to say I'm really enjoying this series and looking forward to every episode. Think Farrell is really good (always seem to enjoy anything he's been in) and I like Vaughan's character too - love the menace but played with a fair bit of humour. There are some great one-liners to lighten things up a bit.

Watched episode 6 last night, best one yet, proper gripping stuff!

Still think they arsed about a fair amount with the first 4 episodes and wasted a good opportunity but its getting better.

Yeah I'm all caught up too, in truth I don't think the plot has been very good. Very difficult to follow, too many names to remember, especially characters that don't actually have much screen time but have great significance to the overall story.

Not sure if I'm missing something but at this point surely the only "happy" ending will be for the remaining three main characters to basically run away.

Ray and Ani are both wanted for murder and Frank's got the Russians after him.

For what it's worth I didn't like Paul's character at all and found his sub plot really dull, for me he was a character the show didn't need.

Watched it last night, yep theres so much I dont really know whats going on, good action at least

The shoot out was really tense, but kinda knew he was gonna die, didnt care much anyway as he was a bit of an unnecessary character etc

Totally dude. I skim read parts of that because I'm almost at a stage now where I don't really give a f**k about it. Hope it goes out with a good finale.

Watched episode 7 last night, still haven't the foggiest as to what the hell is going on, but at least the episode was good, as was 6.

Strange, episode 7 revealed quite a lot.

I guess that means I'm slow/stupid. But a lot of people at work who watch this are in the same boat as me...clueless. Too many characters and plots, no focus at all.

Well if you like to turn of your brain and stare at the tv in a catatonic trance then this series is not for you :P

Hahha I don't, I assure you! They just mention so many characters in passing who have little or no screentime, and I don't know how the hell they are talking about.

I am following the obvious threads quite easily but in comparison to season 1, this season is a bit of a shambles. I like the three main characters very much though. Taylor Kitsch didn't really need to be in this series, what was the point of his character? Contributes nothing

So the series has ended and I'm mystified at level of criticism out there for it...it's like so many people watching it were still sulking that woody harrelson and Matthew mcconaghay weren't in it any more, that this was just a totally different show, they were determined not to give it a chance...

Yes it had faults, the opener was slow and there a lot of people to try and remember who they were over the show...but if you stuck with it, paid attention, used your brain, it was worth it...this was a dark series in a different way to series one, with clear twin peaks influence and no cosy ending...hey even by the end vince Vaughan started to become convincing as a wannabe gangster...thought colin Farrell stole the show though...

Of course series 1 was a classic and hard to beat, but I can see this series getting more respect over time...unfortunately, more people were willing it to fail than those who just sat down and watched the damn thing without any preconceptions or demands

Nah I just thought it was a terrible follow up to an instant classic.

The characters were awful, the dialog ever worse while other than Colin Farrell it was acted very poorly IMO.

I don't need to watch it again to know it was a fairly boring, confusing and largely disappointing series.

agree with this. It was pretty disappointing

The finale was probably one of the best episodes of the season, but that isn't saying much. The show took so long to get going, that it was over before it could hit it's stride.

Uninteresting, mopey characters, no smiling, convoluted plot and bad pacing and

What was the point of Woodrugh as a character? Nothing. You could have removed him completely from the show and it wouldn't have affected the plot (and it didn't!)

It ended how I expected it to end. Just rubbish really.

I thought it was terrible. Awful plot, rubbish ending too. It was too far up its own arse.

Great cinematic scenes etc though, just a shame they did such a hatchet job on the story telling. It could have been brilliant.

I dont think anyone was 'sulking' haha, we all wanted it to work well, sadly it didn't and it was a big boring pretentious mess.
