Sporting injuries

A couple of seasons ago around a month before we played the scouse gits in the Carling Cup final I broke my wrist playing in goal for the company I work for in a 5-a-side league.

Given I was 47 at the time, imagine my delight when the 'injury' was officially recorded at the hospital as 'a sporting injury', made my day I can tell you.

Whilst I was sitting in reception waiting for the plaster to be put on a woman wearing manacles and some serious restraint chains was escorted in by what appeared to be two prison wardens. She was covered in blood from an obvious fight. The other patients all spread out in their seats so she couldn't sit next to them. Not me - 'sit here' said I, 'and let me tell you about my sporting injury' oh I was so proud.

Since then I've managed to break a finger and crack a rib. Apart from several broken fingers playing football when I was at school I've been pretty lucky.

Come on you lot, give us the gory details of your 'sporting injuries'.

Well the most recent one hasn't healed yet. We were playing futsal a few weeks ago and I was challenging this fella for the ball. We both jumped for the ball and I landed just before the other fella did and he landed on my ankle. Just my luck that it happened to be the biggest guy on the pitch and I was the smallest. The ankle swelled up right away. Lucky for me it wasn't broken, just busted the ligaments. Not sure how severely, though. I'm walking "alright" now, but I've got no idea when I'll be able to start running. ::WhyMe::

I broke my ankle a year or so ago and I still haven't quite recovered from it. Me and this other guy, who was at least 6 2' might I add, jumped to get a rebound during a basketball game and I landed on his foot and landed awkwardly and broke my ankle. 3 months a cast and finally started walking without a limp but I still can't jump nor run as fast as I could before my "sporting injury". Unfortunately, the world will never get to see the supreme athlete that I was. 139.gif

P.S: Just read Maksimov's post and seems our situations are just the opposite with someone landing on your ankle. icon_sad.gif

Shark attack '78

I was only four, but strong, and brave.

I was relaxing aboard the family 60 foot catamaran, just off the Gold Coast, making notes for lyrics toward a chart hit.

'Wake me up before you go-go'

'I'm not planning on going solo'

Sadly I never finished the song and I lost my notes. No idea what happened to them.

Suddenly I heard a cry from the port side, I leapt to my feet and noticed 5 damsels in severe distress, their path to the boat blocked by circling fins.

Well I will spare you the gory details but enough to say those ladies were safe within 10 minutes, I picked up a few surface scratches and that night we feasted on shark balls and made love right through the night.

Oh and when I was about 14 I had my arm in plaster for about 4 months. PLaying in goals for Knightswood U15s I parried a shot from about 20 yards out and the centre forward followed in and smashed the rebound on the half volley. I got one hand to it (saving it - bally hero icon_wink.gif ) and it bent my hand right back at an acute angle to the rest of my arm. I actually played on for about 10 mins (only had to face one corner though, nothign else) because it didn't feel like normal pain, it was more of a dizzy feeling. It was my old man who was wathcing who noticed I was swaying about and my face had actually turned really pale.

He rushed me to the A&E at the nearest hospital (Vale of Leven - f**king useless) and the woman there insisted it was just heavy bruising and refused an x-ray. When my Dad demanded it she said 'Do you know how much X-rays cost?' He flipped at that point but managed to stay calm enough to say that if they x-rayed me and nothing was wrong then he would reimburse the hotel for the costs.

This bitch was so annoyed that whilst x-raying me she was really rough with my arm (I could probably sue for a fortune now) and it turned out that I had not only shattered my wrist but also the majority of the bones from my wrist to my elbow had basically been crushed together.

Ouch!!

You actually found the Shark's balls, Loz?

I can never quite manage it.

Heard they are bloody tastey though, especially if wrapped in Grizzly Bears' spleen.

Herniated disk in my lower back - pretty much put paid to my footballing career, LOL. It was an inocuous challenge; pushed from behind, fell forwards, stretched out my left leg to break the fall and felt something go in my lower back. Had trouble getting home that day and was pretty much bed-ridden for almost a month. Required physical therapy and heat therapy for another month before I got back to some semblance of normalcy.

A few months later, I was on the pitch, but this time I was having real problems with my hamstring and my Achilles'. Basically, the back injury was causing all sorts of problems. After a couple of hours of football, despite extensive stretching beforehand, I would hardly be able to walk, such was the pain in the two Achilles'. But nothing was keeping me away from football.

And then I started my current job, and that avenue of pleasure was closed - for good.

I'm feeling cheerful already icon_sad.gif

Cheers,

Butch

broken finger in my right hand from playing a sport with a funny shaped ball....went to catch the ball and the tip of the ball pushed my pinkie back to where my wrist was....had to snap it back into place before going to the doctor.

Broke my right foot...it was doing something athletic, but not necesarily a sport. During a partial eclipse of the sun in a field in scotland (an no I am not making this up!0

Right knee ligament damage from motorcylce crash.

Left ankle damage (still current) from a football match back in Scotland, unfortunately moved ot eh USA shortly thereafter, then had to find a job, then had to wait 3 months in that job before I was eligible for Health Insurance, then a further month before the paperwork cleared for me to get insured. Now I am insured it's off to the doctor then sports therapy, as my ankle sometimes gets sore, and my calve muscle gets numb!!!
