Thirty-five years ago today. And on 23 March we beat Manchester City in the Full Members Cup Final.

Indeed. I heard a quote from McCoist in which he said: "It's probably the only time that both sets of fans went home happy." The weather was atrocious during the game. There were some fans who were at Ibrox and then at Wembley next day. Not often you see 17 goals in two games.

The official attendance was given as 65,000.Ibrox official capacity in 1977/78.

Estimates of the actual attendance have reckoned there were easily another 15,000 plus in the place that day.

The terrace gangways in this photo are filled in many places. It was the same at other end of ground that day.

Traffic came to a standstill on the roads surrounding Ibrox that day. Some players from the Scotland Select just made the kick off!

Not surprised that the turnout was so high. Recognition for such a great player for and ambassador of the club.

No surprise that he was chosen as Rangers greatest ever player.

Twenty-six years ago we lost this man. Still the best British player I've seen play.

When he was ‘in the mood’.    He didn’t just make the ball speak.He made the ball give lengthily speeches.

Davie Cooper was that good.   Yet isn’t known, to any extent outside Scotland.

 

Another funny story from Ally McCoist about Davie Cooper.

He was giving him a lift into training and told him he’d ‘been given a certain tip for the 3.30 race at Ayr’ (The Ayr Racecourse that afternoon.)

Cooper was reading ‘The Racing Post’ as was his wont. And asked McCoist,what was the name of the horse.

“Can’t remember, sorry !” was the reply.

So Cooper went through the names of the horses, McCoist replying “No,not that one.”

 Until the last horse, Cooper shouted “Amnesia!”  

That’s it !” replied McCoist. “Amnesia, the name of the  horse I couldn’t remember !”😀
