Largs Thistle were formed in 1889. Their main claim to fame is winning the Scottish Non League Cup in 1994 when they beat Glenafton at Ibrox. They were also runners up to Linlithgow in 2010 at Rugby Park

Thistle have been playing at Barrfields since 1930. In the early days the ground is said to have held crowds of 9000, although the record is given as 6512 v Clydebank in 1952-3. The stand can take 800 and the new ‘playing carpet’ dates from 2012.

It’s called Forest Park, because it is in a Forest! Simples!!😀

North East Highlands of Scotland.

Burghead Thistle bought the ground off the Forestry Commission a couple of years ago after leasing it for many years.

They now have floodlights/training lights and the wooden enclosure is a bit less ramshackle (still no seats, although there are a few community hall style stacking plastic chairs kicking around!). 

There is a new metal boundary wall and the pitch now has a surrounding wooden fence complete with advertising boards.

There is no social club, but pies and bovril etc are sold from the pavilion at half time.

Grass roots football, sorry couldn’t resist!😀😀

I know one of john Charles' sons very well. Played football with him for years, though he was much more of a rugby player - played first class rugby for Cardiff for about a decade from the late 70s.

It too was built on the side of a very steep hill!!!😀😀😀😀

On occasions when ‘our pitch’ was unavailable.

We used those two trees as a natural goal !😀

There was much debate about the crossbar height!😀😀

I like the "Little Switzerland" name !

We used to play on the old cinder pitches at Brockwell Park south London. One pitch was notorious, it inclined toward the centre circle from one goal end and then declined to the other end. When you stood on the goal line you couldn't see the goal at the other end apart from the crossbar !!

Don't remember anyone calling it that when we lived there!

We also played a lot on pitches with this ‘Red Blaes’ as the pitch surface. Trying wearing ‘your modern multi coloured football boots’ on that surface! They’d be ruined in 60 seconds!!😀. Sliding tackles were definitely NOT Recommended!!!!!😀😀😀😀
