Stade Colombes in 1924. It was the venue for the 1924 Olympic Games. ‘The Chariots Of Fire Games’ of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams.

That film and all the athletics scenes in the 1924 Games are set at the Stade Colombes. Set, but not filmed there. Such are the strange ways of moviedom – and limited budgets – that filming actually took place at the Oval Sports Centre, Bebington, in Merseyside.

The stadium, in the north-west suburbs of Paris, staged the 1938 football World Cup Final.

When Italy beat Hungary 4-2.

Stade Municipal du Havre (now Stade Jules-Deschaseaux) during 1938 FIFA World Cup. This was the only match it hosted during the 1938 Finals. It was between Czechoslovakia and The Netherlands. The Netherlands won 3-0.

Thank you for this, that was really entertaining and transported me back in time. What a great commentator Hugh Johns was and what quality there was in those sides. Whilst we sassanachs swiped and carped at the time, looking now, what a side the old sweaties had then. Donna chief, Kenny Burns, Archive Gemmill, Johnstone, Dalglish, and poor old Willie as well. Great side, should have gone further. Shouldn't have underestimated Peru. Cubillas?

Whitewall: Yeah a few weeks before ‘the reality check’ against Peru! I don’t think Ally McLeod went and watched any of the three teams. Cubilias was some player in 1978.

The Scottish media in the build up to ‘Argentina 1978’ along with the comments made by McLeod. No caution from them !

Yet they all virtually turned on him after the 3-1 defeat by Peru.

In reality, he was an inexperienced manager. He’d never actually faced a foreign side in competitive match away from home until the Peru game in June 1978.

He left the free scoring Derek Johnstone on the bench for all three games.

Yet ,when a substitute striker came on against Iran. It was Joe Harper, who McLeod had managed at Aberdeen until May 1977. And he never even took Andy Gray!

It’s the first time I’ve seen highlights of that Wales 1978 game. Some cross by Archie Gemmill for Derek Johnstone’s headed goal!

A couple of Rangers greats.

Four Rangers greats.

Gunter Netzer for Borussia Monchengladbach in the early 1970s.

A brilliant midfielder at his peak.

Allan Simonsen takes a free kick for Borussia v Hamburg in March 1979.

Netzer scores the winner v Cologne in the West German Cup Final.June 1973.

He came on as a sub in extra time and scored this goal within three minutes, with only his second touch of the ball! It was his last game before moving to Real Madrid.

A snowy kick off in 1969/1970.

The respective Borussia Moenchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund captains, Siegfried Held (Dortmund, l.) and Guenter Netzer with match officials.

Yes, it's at The Bridge, can't remember what game it was but remember chuckling at the look on the old bill's face !

Racing Club Stadium and rivals Independienti stadium. Think that game between them is called a "local" derby !!

From 1982.

Just looked it up. That was during a period where Liverpool won it 4 years on the trot. 1982 they played Spurs in the final and guess what? Spurs were 1-0 up until the 87th minute only to lose 3-1. Some things NEVER change!!

Anyone else remember the Shoot Magazine League Table Tabs?

Pretty sure that's Ephesus in Turkey. An awesome place, as it the amphitheatre in Arles, which I visited a few weeks ago.

That is defiantly the Great Theater at Ephesus, legend has it the away end could get a bit violent at times.
