June 24, 20233 yr The Pretenders ripping it on the Park stage but where is Martin Chambers? A band from my youth who I have been lucky enough to see live twice. Chrissie is gonna be 72 in September! What was the verdict on the Artic Monkeys headline set last night? I've seen some slightly negative press today but personally I really enjoyed it Edited June 24, 20233 yr by just

June 24, 20233 yr I missed Sparks yesterday and at the last time of checking the useless beeb still didn’t have it available on catch up. If it doesn’t go up I’m not paying my license fee.

June 24, 20233 yr Rick Astley covering The Smiths was better value than the Monkeys set! In fairness laryngitis is a f**ker to try and get over quickly then sing. A shame because I don't think that Friday night headline set will be remembered fondly and the Monkeys on top form would have delivered

June 25, 20233 yr Author I haven't seen anything yet that has come remotely close to The Pretenders set. Brilliant energy. Johnny Marr guesting on guitar, Dave Grohl coming on stage to play drums on Precious and Paul McCartney dragging Chrissie back on stage at the end for an ovation from the crowd. I've seen some slightly negative press today but personally I really enjoyed it Thought they were incredibly dull @just I've seen them three times but that was earlier on when they were young and energetic and best thing I had seen sine The Jam. But now they just look like they are going through the motions and Alex Turner trying to be a bit of a showman is just weird and cringeworthy! It's why I always admire Weller for splitting The Jam at the top and finsihing on a No. 1 single. He could have milked it and carried on but he wanted it all to mean something, not carry on the same band and become embarrassing like the Rolling Stones. Compare AM Friday's set to 2007 Glasto - not a patch on it. They should have split and gone onto new ventures ages ago.

They were dreadful, I saw them early on in there career and they were brilliant, energetic, aggressive, banging. That one Friday was the exact opposite. I hate when bands dick about at festivals, your not there to experiment, crooning a slowed down version of Mardy Bum. Play your best songs how we expect them, every enjoys themselves, happy days. I'm fairly indifferent to them but an ageing GNR absolutely blew them away last night, as did Rick Ashley doing Smiths covers, amazingly.

Is the first part of your post about The Pretenders or AM? If it's about The Pretenders I'd have to strongly disagree. Thought the energy they generated on stage was just superb. Listened to Blondie today and DH's voice has gone, well she is 77. But Chrissie's voice is still as good as ever. The Mother of all rock-chicks. As for the AMs I have spoken to a few people about the headline set on Friday and it does seem like I'm one of the few who liked it. Didn't blow me away but enjoyed it nonetheless.

June 27, 20233 yr I went and got back yesterday morning, surprised to see so many negative comments on Arctic Monkeys, they weren't the best I have ever seen them but still really good I thought. Other highlights were Rick Astley, Rick Astley and Blossoms doing The Smiths, The Hives, Courteeners, Cat Stevens. We left Elton's set about 20 minutes before the end, thought it was ok and for all the hype around the guests he would be bringing out, they were all fairly underwhelming apart from Brandon Flowers. I just thought for his last ever UK show it would be more of a show, but me and my mates and a few others around us came away feeling quite underwhelmed by him. Some week though, best festival I've ever done by miles.

I still preferred them when they were wee scallies 17 year old though!

I saw them at the emirates the week before and they were better then than they were at Glastonbury, I still really enjoyed both though. I saw them at Finsbury Park in 2014 and they were incredible, probably the best gig I’ve ever been too.
