Posted June 23, 200816 yr I know Arshavin is everybody's flavor of the month at the moment and being Russian i knew of his talents for quite some time but i somehow doubt he'll end up at Chelsea. The player i always wanted to be with Chelsea is the other Russian - left winger Yury Zhirkov. He is 24, fast skillful hardworking left winger. I believe he has the right attitude and strong physique to do well in PL and he is probably the most technically gifted player in Russia at the moment, beating a player one one is something he's quite capable of, which is something i can't say for any of current CFC wingers except for maybe JC when he's in a mood. I've been following the player for years and i believe he could solve our problems on the left side of attack. Edited June 23, 200816 yr by abramovich

The first time I saw him was when CSKA Moscow were in the UEFA Cup final and he was a livewire all night. Also is versatile enough to play as a wing-back if necessary, and also on the right at a pinch. Arshavin is top-quality but 27. I'd like to see us get Zhirkov to replace SWP.
June 23, 200816 yr Yeah, Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko may be the men of the moment but Zhirkov has been equally impressive at the Euros. It amazes me how Hiddink has successfully converted him for a left winger to an attacking full-back and he has adapted very well. I watched him very closely against the Dutch and his work-rate seemed to be astonishing (probably 10 times the work-rate of Malouda). He would surely be a good buy to replace SWP/Malouda.

I can't remember the last time I saw Malouda sprint down the line for Chelsea - he seems so lackluster ... Anelkaish I'm waiting to see what Scollari does with our squad ... I think we might all be in for a shocker, he might just offload a bunch
June 23, 200816 yr I hope so Yogic, as, at the moment we have many players who it seems dont really embody the Scolari ethos As for the OP, I would love Zhirkov in blue. He might be the real diamond in the rough of this Russia team, and could actually come for a decent price, even after the EUROs. Plus he might just be able to take on Neville on the wing and out-ugly the guy ;)

June 23, 200816 yr Another good'un is that defender who keeps smaking in howitzers from 30-40 yards. Forget his name, but maybe we can get him and stick him in every now and again.
June 23, 200816 yr Author Another good'un is that defender who keeps smaking in howitzers from 30-40 yards. Forget his name, but maybe we can get him and stick him in every now and again. His name is Kolodin but outside of his Ronald Koeman-esque long range shooting he doesn't offer much and is certainly nowhere near Chelsea quality. The reason he is in the Russian squad is that while Russia seems to have quite a few talented midfielders and a couple of solid strikers we have always lacked quality defenders and Kolodin is just the best of the bunch but that's not saying much. I'm dreading the thought of our defense facing the Villa-Torres duo again in the semis. I'm telling you people, Zhirkov is the real deal and tireless workhorse, and if i had to choose just one player out of this Russian squad, i'd pick him ahead of everybody, including Arshavin.

He actually played a number of games for CSKA as a left-back however Hiddink has asked him to be a more orthodox wing-back, like he did with Brett Emerton and Scott Chipperfield for Australia.

June 23, 200816 yr Author what happened to those two brothers Russia had in defense in the qualifiers? they seemed to be quite good They're in the squad but others are preferred ahead of them which is fair since they have been playing poorly in the Russian league recently. But with Kolodin missing the semifinal through suspension it's a possibility one of them will get to play.
June 23, 200816 yr Author can anyone remember the names of the 2 russians we were linked with last season? One of them was Serb, Branislav Ivanovic, who played in the Russian league and we did sign him. The other one was Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, he's been in a shadow of better players so far and i don't see him getting anywhere near Chelsea.
June 23, 200816 yr can i say my username used to be cfcshedend and you all thought that i was one person but im not and for some reason my old username has been blocked so thanks guys!!! anyway i think zhirkov would be a good signing as he hasnt got a massive ego like maloauda and would really appreciate playing for a club like chelsea unlike malouda!! would he play as winger or full back as i would rather him than ashley cole!!! i think there are going to be at least 5 people leaving this summer? what does every one think? i reckon going will be pizzaro, sidwell, maloauda(i really hope),ben-haim,drogba and maybe lampard! im as excited as when mourinho first come in.....i think this is going to be a great season!!

June 24, 200816 yr Excelent call Abramo. (our scout out East). Zhirkov is the man. I dare say he's the best player on the Russian team. Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko have shone so far, but I have the feeling the first is a tad inconsistent (not in this Euro mind you) and the second likes to play on his own too much, although them both transpire class.
June 24, 200816 yr If i could pick one guy from Russia it would be Zhirkov, great work rate, good left foot, hard and accurate crossing, good tecnique. Only downside with him is his diving tendencies i seen in this euro which he shares with Ronaldo and Ballack, the difference is he does it much better, he tends to scream in order to make sure he gets a foul. Alot of players in the NBA use that floping technique and it seems to work pretty well for them. Vlade Divac is known for that amongst other seniors. If i was Abra i would try and get Zhirkov right now, Arshavin to assuming that Lampard goes. Bilyaletdinov is also a great player who i wouldnt mind here, he has great technique. Zyrianov is amongst the better Russians this euro, dont know how old he is though.
June 26, 200816 yr Bilyaletdinov is also a great player who i wouldnt mind here, he has great technique.Zyrianov is amongst the better Russians this euro, dont know how old he is though. I wouldn't mind Bilya, he'd be a good squad player for definate, can play all across midfield and has good technique as you said. Zryianov is 31 or so I think.
June 26, 200816 yr Heard that during the ITV commentary. Surely if he had said so it would have been publicised a bit more?
June 26, 200816 yr I think Pav the lad might very well be a Big Phil style of player. He reminds me alot of a young Nuno Gomes with his height and athleticism. I feel sheva would be a good role model for him (form would need to differ though).
June 27, 200816 yr Author http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2008...o-isnt-arshavin Last night, Avram Grant revealed on Israeli TV last night that Chelsea are after Yuri Zhirkov, rather than current soup du jour Andrei Arshavin. Quite how the Toad would be privy to this information and be in a position to reveal it on television is beyond us, but it would be highly titillating to hear Londoners shouting “Jerkoff!†in unison next season…

June 27, 200816 yr Zhirkov looks like the kind of player that would be suited to the premiership, the pace we'd have on both wings attacking would be phenominal. THe other russian I wouldnt mind us being linked with is the Zenit centre forward that was injured for the Euros Pavel Pogrebnyak.
