John Obi Mikel Appreciation Thread
you mean we was trailing at home and chasing the game so the manager sacrifices his defensive midfielder for a more attacking option in an attempt to turn it round and we then go on and win the match..............well thats just crazy talk. How on earth did they think of that. Seriously though You know i'm not defending Mikel here, i have agreed with some of the issues you have with him. To slow on the ball, to many sideway's passes and would even go as far as to say he probably shouldn't feature in 70-80% of our games at Stamford Bridge for those reasons. However i dont think you can just throw out stats like the ones you have to determine the merits of one person like that. Whoever they are.

well without digging up stats because it aint my thing, i'll just take a quick look at the evidence on this page. Look at the teams he has played against compared to the teams he didn't play. Or to put it simpler, if Mikel is man of the match in a 1-0 defeat at the Nou Camp on a wednesday night but is then rested for the 5-0 thrashing of the Dog and Duck in the cup on saturday what does that tell you. well it tells me the Dog and Duck truely are a pub side but it does'ny tell me much about Mikel.

This is what many have been trying to explain, some like me not even really bothered about his opinions on Mikel. He's entitled to them after all. If you dont like a player thats your call each to their own. But you cant use team stats on individuals....they dont work.

Sack the board
The problem we as fans have with the current set up is accountability. Nobody knows who does what at the club, so when things are going wrong who's to blame? At the minute it all seems to come down to the manager which is a pretty sweet deal for people in the boardroom. They can all bask in our recent success and then sack the manager when results go the otherway. This is why we are starting to struggle getting a decent manager to take the job. The poor sod is'nt even responsible for buying and selling players yet will live or die by the squad he has to work with. If the boardroom are going to interfere with footballing matters beyond hiring a manager and giving him complete control then they should be just as accountable when things need changing.

Latest message from Gourlay
I have asked on Chesea TV why the club seemed to have no voice or never kept the fans in the loop as to its thoughts or plans for the future and was giving the old Roman is a very private man spill. I dont expect him to give interviews or anything like that after all he employs a boardroom full of people to handle the day to day running of the club. But all you get from them is random of the cuff coments like those made by Gourley in asia and its annoying.

I think the silverware is the only thing that has stopped fans from asking some questions before. We have struggled to understand a lot of things the club has done in the last few years but lived in hope there is some kind of method to the madness but there comes a point when you have to ask......Explain the thought process you went through to justify coming to that conclusion so we can understand why you thought it was a good idea?. Explain how you felt undermining then sacking the best manager in the world was a good idea? Explain how you spent years courting CA from Milan only to then sack him after he wins the double and then you fail to back him? Explain how having someone other than the manager buy and sell players is a good idea? Explain paying a £13m release clause to get AVB then sacking him after a few months worked? Explain sacking RDM? Explain getting FSW, clearly against the fans wishes? Explain how everyone in world football except you'se in the boardroom think Lampard is worthy of a new contract? Silverware aside, and dont get me wrong its very very hard to say that cos we have achieved things beyond my wildest dreams over the last few years but i still feel silverware aside a lot of things need explaining and maybe if they did at least try to explain some of the thought processes that went into there dicision making we might understand a little more. I dont think thats a totally unreasonable request. If football is a business then we the paying customers should be treated as clients and with a lot more respect. In any other industry the customer is always right in football and not only at CFC we are not treated as such......in fact we are treated pretty $hit.

If your trying to imply by listing the clubs above that its a bad idea or that it doesn't work how about Bayern Munich, 80% owned by the fans 10% Adidas and 10% Audi. With fan representation in the boardroom. And board members who have a long history and affection to the club such as past playing legends who both know a bit about the game and realise that although its prudent to run the club as a business it is still a football club and the fans are its lifeblood so lets not take a great big dump on them at every oportunity . Now i'm not suggesting this is the way forward for us but as Tommy said we just feel our club is moving further away from its roots. Its our club and we will be here long after those idiots in the boardroom who are'nt doing a very good job. Walking away is not an option, letting them know is all we can really do.

Is Rooney worth a punt?
I have always thought that Rooney would be a player with a shorter career than some. Firstly because he came on the scene so young and will be extremely wealthy and a lot less hungry now than when he started. Secondly his build i think he could be one of these players that picks up an injury puts on a few pounds and just cant get rid of it again, probably linked to the first point about the hunger not being there anymore. I may be talking rubbish who knows but i remember saying he'll be Terry Gibson by the time he's in his late 20's so i wont change my opinion now and Fergie must have seen something. I'd pass on bringing him here.

Maybe they are shrewder than we think putting FSW in charge because he's deflecting a lot of $hit of them. Everyone is targeting FSW with there banners and chants when in reality its those jokers in the boardroom who should be getting a lot of the stick being dished out at the minute.

I've had mine 19 and have only just paid off this season, just in time for renewals for next. Me my dad and brother have been going together since i was a kid I have 3 young boys and a 4th on the way and feel a sense of real shame that i'm not going to be able to do with them what my dad did with us. I'm probably going to have to pick a cup game or something we can all go to once or twice a season. I have been pondering whether due to family/financial commitments i would renew at all for next year, I mean the way the club is being run i really feel like i'm having the pi$$ taken out of me at times, we dont even know who the manager is going to be but never mind send us a grand. As some have posted we understand that the game has changed and the 'Brand' has to be marketed around the world for the clubs own good in order to compete, we aint stupid. But all we asked is to be kept in the loop a little bit, i feel the way this has come out and been said on the other side of the planet, like its some kind of fcuking secret so dont tell the fans back home. I feel this is a real kick up the nuts. Why they cant come out and tell us whats going on is beyond me, its like they try on purpose to stick 2 fingers up at us because the alternative is they are just that stupid and that doesn't bare thinking about. Who's choosing the manager? Who's it going to be? who's buying and selling the players? why cant you tell us, what is it exactly you do on a day to day basis to earn your salary? What the fcuk is going on at our club you bunch of useless fcukwits. Sack the board.............cu*ts!

What's needed for next season
Torres, Hilario, Ferreira, Malouda, Benyoun, Turnbull could go but it doesn't look like Cortious will be here this season so we will need cover and not sure if the reserve/youth keepers are ready. Romeu and Marin are still young and i actually like Romeu. Marin's problem is who's in front of him in the first team at the minute so may need a loan move in the Prem but shouldn't be sold yet. A lot of experience in the 5 names listed so Essien should be kept, he can still do a job at RM he can still do a job here and we dont know what's happening with Frank yet. But these are all things the manager should be thinking about at this stage of the season regarding next, seeing as yet again we have no idea who thats going to be once again it will be Emenalo or what ever agent is currently in favor at the club deciding things that could ultimately cost the next manager his job.

mate, this debate could be about any player in the squad. I am not founder member of the Mikel fan club here, all i have said in all my posts is that you cant use the stats you did to judge a player and to use those stats as an argument didn't hold water, one way....for anybody. To have now gone full circle and try and use those stats the other way is both contradictory and stupid. As it stands you are saying that if the team is rubbish when mikel(or anybody) is in it you can argue that his presence is the cause but if that team then goes on to win a trophy you can't say it has anything to do with Mikel(or any individual) because its a team game.......think about it. I wouldn't want to be in the trenches with you mate, we win together but lose and your on your own. Cheers.

is'nt that a bit like using team stats to prove the pro's and con's of an individual??

John Obi Mikel Appreciation Thread
I too am not singing the praises of Mikel, and dare i say it i have thought myself that he slow's the game down at times and doesn't play enough forward passes(oh no i'm agreeing with savage) but at the same time he's not in the team for his creativity. All i'm saying is to put a statistic forward like that, games with/without against points with/without is unfair on anybody......as the xavi stat has just proven.

John Obi Mikel Appreciation Thread
I have to agree with yorkleyblue here that simply dividing points by games with or without any individual to determine whether or not the team are better off with or without that person is a pretty silly thing to do in a team game. So many other factors to consider. I'm not defending Mikel here just saying you cant do that with any player. He could have been man of the match in every game we lost. Lies, damn lies and statistics anyone??

Jeremie Boga
Didn't know anything about him, watched the next gen game against Barca and he looked the best player on the pitch, made one in the first half but had to do a job in the second when we went down to 10 men then scored the 2nd to wrap up the game with a good goal in injury time. I was impressed and then found out he was 2yrs younger than everyone else on the pitch i was even more impressed. he's just turned 16 the next gen series has an age limit of 18 but the boy plays regularly for our U21's. He looks a tidy little player.

Winning the European Cup has changed things forever (for me)
Totally agree, especially the last bit. In fact we'd be much better off because the club or i should say fans would still be united behind RDM even if results stuttered in the belief that he had earned his chance he loved the club and we could see what he was trying to do this term with the young players he brought in, FSW being the total opposite.

standing at the bridge?!
the real reason for a lack of atmosphere due to seating is because people cant go and stand where they want....i.e with other like minded people who want to stand and sing. its hard to get songs going if you have 5 people here and 3 people there who want to stand and sing(especially with people telling them to sit down around them all the time). there have been talk of 'singing areas' but that's what terracing would/should be. An area thats cheap to get into because its obviously lacking a bit in comfort and view but where people can see the game live, meet up with friends/fellow supporters during any stage of any match and get some atmosphere going.

standing at the bridge?!
Tragedy for the families, nobody deserves to die on what should have been a fun day out at football but i feel your right in terms of what happened that day. Yes the police made terrible mistakes and are finally and rightly being held accountable for those mistakes, but the Liverpool fans have never held their hands up and because of this they have learned nothing. They tried to force entry at the Bridge a few years back in the CL, and did it again in Athens for the final where they were also robbing each other for tickets(class). Football fell right into corporate hands after the Taylor report and although i know things will never go back to how they were in terms of vast terraced stadiums and really they shouldn't i feel strongly about having some kind of terracing at football. It will improve attendances and atmospheres all over the country, give people options regarding how the attend matches like before(sit or stand, go on my own and meet up behind the goal with pals when i get there etc) more importantly allow supporters who are currently being priced out of going to live games the chance to see their teams. They have terracing abroad, in the lower leagues and its deemed perfectly safe for 200k people to stand at a concert smashed of their tits but put 10-15k people behind a goal in a premier league teams colors, surrounded by old bill and it becomes a death trap......i dont buy it. I think if the clubs truly wanted it they could make it happen, but they are happy to try and squeeze a pint into a quart pot and rip the arse out of ticket prices. So i cant ever see it happening which for the reasons above is a real shame.

Petr Cech record
He did hold the record for the longest time without conceding in the Czech Republic, France and England but Van-der sar beat that a couple of years back over here. Not sure if anyone has done so in the other leagues.

What happened to Malouda?
I agree that flat out refusing to use a player who is on your books earning 80k per week and could still do a job for you is biting off your nose to spite your face and i totally disagree with it,but if you do say to someone 'leave or your in the reserves' and that player then decides to stay what that player cant then do is complain that he's 'in the reserves'.

Let’s see if we can dispel some old myths
Maybe, i do remember us sniffing around Eto. By the time Tevez went to Utd though i'm sure the purse strings had been cut and JM wasn't even allowed to sign Ben Haim in the transfer window when we had no fit defenders and were still chasing a treble.
