With all respect to JT, this is the big one. A fit and committed Drogba for a complete seaaon (apart from ANC) will be the key to winning the Premiership. There is no better player in his position in any league anywhere.

Amazing game, we could have had 6. For me our covering all over the pitch (apart from their goal) was brilliant. Also we looked as though we could have played all night - Essien awesome, Gerrard looked like the w**ker he is. We'll miss Terry in the next leg but it would have to be a disaster not to go through now.

Bloody disappointing. But it was Hiddink's first London derby and Redknapp had clearly done the job in the dressing room to get his players up for the game. We have the better players but their lot were more up for it. Also, I'm not sure that Hiddink really knows what his best eleven is for any given game - anyway we have to admit that we were poor today apart from the last 5 minutes.

I wanted Hughsie last year and I still think he would do a great job for us. I dont think he's happy at Citeh, he's had some poor results but I get the feeling there is a lot of crap going on at that club at the moment, eg the Kaka fiasco. My first choice would have been Zola and Clarke but for many reasons that won't happen. Please not Hiddink or Mancini or any other "big names" - they are nowhere near Mourinho standard so can we please learn our lesson.

Hallellujah - feel sorry for the bloke as I think he was totally out of his depth. But now what - we went through all this last year. The problem is still the same - which manager could live up to Jose in the short term? Or get a young and therefore inexperienced management team for the long haul, bring some youngsters through etc. And why did the Board agree to bring in Quaresma when the writing was on the wall for Scolari (I assumed he came partly due to Portugese connections).

I share the frustration of everyone on this thread. But look at our rivals and how long their managers have been at their clubs - Ferguson, O'Neill, Wenger (OK not such a good example at the moment), Moyes (and yes we may be battling Everton for a UEFA cup spot at this rate), I don't count Fatty for obvious reasons. Now I was all in favour for Hughsie to replace Grant but he's struggling at the moment. I'm sure he will be fine given the time but look at all the talent he's got at his disposal and still not doing as well as should be expected. I suppose my point is - OK fine ditch Scolari but then what? Unless we have a clear vision of where we are going then we will turn into a mid-table team - of that there is no doubt. We need a long-term plan - if West Ham turn over the Mancs tomorrow (or to be honest even if they don't) let's get Zola and Clarke on a long contract and see what they can do. F**k the compensation, pay whatever it takes. Enough galacticos - and let's face it the manager is one as well.

Thanks for the reminder BB. The Man City v S***s game was shortly after we beat them at Maine Road which they showed a couple of weeks ago. Highlights for me: Spuds looking as clueless then as they do now. Peter Barnes - brilliant winger, what a run and cross for Mick Channon to score. Chelsea connections - Stewart Houston and Graham Rix. Man Yoo - rubbish. Arse ripped them apart. Terraces - oh happy days but how the fcuk did the FA get away with those fences with spikes on top. At the time it was just the way it was but looking back it's unbelievable. Brian Moore - top bloke, certainly the face and voice of football during my formative years! All in all there was some very good football played on very crap pitches. And "you're gonna get your f'cking heads kicked in" could be heard very clearly! Best bit though was that bloke who ran on the pitch in the Boro v Forest game- big hair, scary moustache and what looked like a pinstripe suit. Had a right go at the ref but nobody else seemed bothered at all. In fact he was allowed to amble off the pitch in his own time and was escorted away by a single copper. A very different time indeed.

You are right BB, it was indeed David Stride. From what you can hear on the recording there were a fair few Chelsea boys up there. Kind of nostalgic to hear the other lot singing "You're going down again".

I happened to tune into ITV4 this afternoon and they had a re-run of Man City v Chels 21 Jan 1979! We won 3-2 with goals from Duncan McKenzie, Ossie and Clive Walker. Unbelievable stuff- the pitch was covered in snow, orange ball, players making and taking hefty challenges but running them off. The Cat made some brilliant saves. Sadly I think we went down that season - Danny Blanchflower was the manager soon to be replaced I think by Geoff Hurst. IF we have some kind of pre-contract agreement with Hiddink or Scolari, are we open to being sued by their respective FA's for distracting them before the Euros? It will look a bit odd if we appoint either of them as soon as the competition is over - and we'd have to cos there'd be sod all time left before pre-season.
