This thread didn’t age well. Jörgensen confident and brilliant with the ball, Garnacho very good as many others.

    Atrocious goalkeeping today.
I'd rather give Jorgensen a run of games instead and see what he can do. What do we have to lose at this point?

That's a crazy thing to say. The keeper has to react. If he stays on his line and Delap passes the ball in, probably at his near post he gets hammered. It's so close to him and the goal line he doesn't have the opportunity to step out and make a big shape.
I am still not convinced there is contact.
This is still one of the weakest areas where VAR is failing. There has to be context drawn into these reviews. How can we have a situation whereby Tosin has a player in a bear hug from a corner and their appeals after the player falls to the ground is denied, yet the minimalist of contacts, if at all, results in the player pitching himself to the floor and a penalty is given. It's totally wrong.
The context is that Delap had virtually exhausted his move and was moving to an acute angle. We had players approaching the goal line behind the keeper. The keeper takes a position but doesn't initiate contact. The ball and Delap pass the keeper. If, a big if, there is minimal contact as Delap exits the challenge space and he embellished his fall rather than try to score.
No way can the keeper be blamed for his actions here, there was nothing reckless in his approach. If so, we need to rip up the coaching manuals and retrain all of the kids coming through.

Your posts come across as condescending and you don’t seem to have any interest in or ability to understand other people’s perspectives. And if you really think that diving hasn’t increased since the 1920’s there’s no point in going on.
Hope you enjoy your semi-pro refereeing and good luck with your professional football career.

And how exactly does it help the ref make correct decisions when every little contact results in players rolling around like they’ve had a foot chopped off? That’s just a stupid argument. Also, yellow cards for diving are very rare and can’t be dealt by VAR (that would be nice, though). And there’s plenty of players who don’t do it. They’re not all Vinicius.
Anyway, let’s just say we don’t agree. You care about winning and nothing else, I care about the integrity of the game itself.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. I don’t think it’s diving when there’s contact unless the player fakes an injury. Exaggeration isn’t diving for me, and I get why players fall over when hit even if they could stay on their feet. But when there’s no contact or only a little and the player fakes intense pain or an injury afterwards - that’s what I hate.

No, I’m aware of that, but as I said before diving for me is when you try to get a penalty, or red card for the opposition - Walker in Man C vs Man U is a good example. I wouldn’t call it diving if a player jumps before contact to prevent injury.
As much as I can be tempted to ignore it when we win because if it, the feeling I get when other teams do the same is sickening - and so I think we all should strive to get rid of diving regardless of club.

Every team has been treated unfairly over the years. And the violent offenses you mention are mostly caught by VAR or at least sanctioned post match nowadays.
But diving and faking injuries to try to get others sent off is a direct threat to the game, I think. So we need refs to punish that consistently as well. Really sad it’s been imported from Spain and Italy.

Hard for him to impress in the league when he doesn’t get the chance. He’s clearly a very good goalkeeper who seems to do everything well which is more than we can say about Sanchez. But Maresca will probably want to ease him into the league to not put too much pressure on him. He’ll be our nr. 1 next season.

I think another Sanchez injury is the only way we get him in to be the number 1. I would personally go for him already.

Well, maybe we need to give the guy a chance to prove himself? He must’ve been #1 in a La Liga team at a young age for a reason.

He’s regarded as a huge talent in Spain and was instrumental in them surviving in La Liga - Villarreal also just gave him a 5 year deal. Knee jerk reactions and loose claims all over this thread

We looked great at the start when it was dry, then the heavens opened and we folded then the rain stopped and we came alive again. Moral of the story ? ask the new owners for a stadium with a roof.

Think your memory is messing with you. He took a blow in that Barca game and was not the same for a while afterwards - other than that his skills and potential to become world class has always been obvious for anyone with half a football brain. Now he is and I don’t think we can replace him. Hard to name more than a couple of defenders with the same technique, awareness and football intelligence, the last two years he has improved a lot physically and mentally and he can play both right back and DM should the need arise. His only weakness is injuries. Huge blow, but hey, nothing official from Barca yet.

Seems like lots of fans don’t expect Tuchel actually thinks about formations, tactics, strategy very much. I’m quite sure he does and also that he and his ppl are more competent than all TSE-users combined.
Criticism should always  be welcome of course, and no one should be above it, but come on - some ppl even calling for him to be replaced. It’s utterly ridiculous.
Btw, it’s always good to remember that there are two teams on the pitch, both trying their best to score and keeping the opponent from scoring. Juventus - while not as good as some years ago - are still very much a quality team with the worlds most experienced and clever defensive players. It’s no catastrophe to not score against them, and it’s not necessarily a tactical failure - might just be that they are really good defensively, and no matter who we put on the field would have had a hard time.
    Chill ppl.

Yes, and he got a yellow for it, not a pen. That's why most pundits and experts in Denmark blame the ref, not Sterling. I do hope that young Damsgaard has learned from that, though, even if it may be wishful thinking as he does play in Italy.
In Denmark, the widespread narrative is that England were the best team and deserved the victory. Next, that Denmark as many feared got tired because of the exhausting match in Baku's heat and had to sub our best attacking players early. Unluckily, Jensen got injured in ET, so England played 11 vs 10 for 20 minutes or so - it doesnt seem like anyone outside Denmark noticed though. And lastly, that some unfortunate things happened on and outside the pitch - the booing of the Danish anthem, the refs decision to give a pen and not to stop the play even though another ball was nearby, the laser on Schmeichel and Pierre-Emile and afterwards the misbehaving of some English fans towards the Danish fans. Even though there are morons everywhere I can't imagine spitting on children etc. happening in Denmark or indeed anywhere else in Western Europe for an international match, especially not when the homeside wins, sorry to say.
But, the vast majority are able to give recognition to England for a fully deserved victory. I'm wondering how the English media would have reacted had it been the other way around.

I saw Neville, Mourinho and Wenger saying that it wasn't a penalty but that England was a better team. All that about not checking with VAR enough and not going to a screen to see the replay at least one of them mentioned don't remember but I think it was Wenger. But the key point is that England was the better team overall so not much of a difference from their view and how people see it in Denmark.
Now if Denmark had that same penalty instead they would have said the same thing but the difference would have been that England being the better team would have lost after a strange penalty so the majority in the media would have had a different take because it's not the same when the worst team gets a huge leap with the help of the ref, that is just human nature.
With that said, I'm still waiting for the underdog to get a huge decision like that going their way, if you ask me VAR would have been a crucial factor if a Danish player had dived and the ref probably wouldn't have given that same penalty for them anyway, maybe I'm wrong but that's just my opinion and it doesn't change the fact that Italy:England is the best possible final as they were the best teams of each bracket.
Interestingly enough the ref in the final will be Björn Kuipers, he already was the ref in a match between England and Italy in 2014 World Cup during the group stages where Italy won and Verratti said not too long ago that Bjorn told him to F off a couple of times in a CL match.
