He has been doing fine on loan. I hope he comes back here and replicates that.

He good. Me like Christensen. Christensen good footballer.

There's a thread about him in the 'Youth and Reserves' forum though

As I love Chelsea & Moenchengladbach, I follow him since August 2015. He plays phantastic there - def. one of the best defenders in the German Bundesliga. Borussia is trying to buy him, as he came on loan for 2 years.

Wherever he will play in the future, he will be one of the top boys in any defence.

Quite willing to bet significant amounts of cash that if he does return, he will be sat on his arse for a few months before making an unceremonious departure on loan in January 2017.

Or we will sell him to Southampton, or similar, for about £4m and he will be playing for city in 2 years time after being sold for a world record £250m.

I hope we bring him back and don't sell. With Kurts injury he might get a chance here

Unfortunately he's on loan for two seasons and we don't have a recall clause and that's for a very good reason.

Our board.

Yep. Two seasons and it was confirmed this week that there isn't a recall clause which is ridiculous. Even if you have a penalty clause of a few million Euros that kicks in if we chose to recall him early then that's better than what we've got.

It's amazing that someone didn't think what might happen if he developed quicker than expected or say a first-team defender suffered a serious injury.

I think this is partly why the club signed Miazga as they realised Terry might not be here next season which would have left us with Cahill and Zouma as Christensen would've still been on loan

We'll surely the club can see letting Terry go now even more so is not a good idea

At least something good may come from Zoumas injury then ?

The fact that it is a 2 year loan gives a lot more incentive for Gladbach to play and develop him.
Which is why the board set it up like this, he wasn't expected to be a guaranteed starter in the side so they needed to give the extra incentive and it payed off. Look at him now, before he left he would have had very very little senior football under his belt and now he has a tonne including European exposure yeah lets have a go at the board for one of the successes this season.

I would imagine though that they were very happy with a 2 year loan (or at least I was) as I'm guessing the plan was to atleast have Terry at the top for another those 2 seasons and giving 4 CB's playing time is always going to be tough.

3 at the back is suicide in this league.

For years, anything other than 442 was viewed with suspicion in English football. I don't think there's anything inherently flawed in 352 that means it can't work in this league.

Are there some team who have the wingers to exploit the gaps behind the wing-backs? Absolutely. But are there games where it can work? I think so. But I can see why you might think it would be suicide.

Why are people obsessed by 352, Conte only played it a Juventus because it suited the players he had.

It's not an obsession, simply people being interested in what Conte might play and how our players would fit it.

Except he wouldn't play 352, he used it because of the players at Juventus.  His first season he mostly used 442 and 433, he changed to 352. to suit the players he had.

And yet he maintained it with Italy. What I'm saying is that he may well use it here, and I think there's players like Fabregas that it benefits.

Or he may go to a 433 or a 442. Either way, the only obsession people have is with the future direction of the club and that seems like something you might expect on this forum, no?

So from that can we not conclude that given time to reshape our squad he might move towards a back three, maybe in his second season, like he implemented at Juventus?

That's a huge change for Chelsea if true, we've predominantly played a deep line defensive back four for almost fifteen years now.

Where's the obsession, it's a discussion over what seems to be his preferred formation. I think if he wants to play that then we need another cb, a physical and athletic one and an intelligent left back as baba would worry me defensively.

Tbf he had his back 3 plus buffon from juventus, with the national team, so it would make sense to build around that.

I wasn't keen on him coming at first mainly because I'm wary of 352, however having read various reports, I think he is much more likely to play 433 with us.

I think he will concentrate on that centre midfield area over the summer, and it will probably be fabregas plus 2 new signings.

Exciting times.
