You can't grow 3-4 inches though at ake's age but you can put on 10-15kg

He is taller than the current best defender in our squad. I feel Ake is a talent. So for me his height (or lack of) is not a massive issue.

I also think Bournemouth have made a brilliant deal. 20mil for a 22 year old, who might reach some heights and they can probably envision him going for atleast double of that. Just hope we have a buy back included in that deal.

I don't disagree I would have preferred to keep Ake in the squad more so for his versatility and Homegrown status than his CB prowess.
Christensen and Rudiger are both better CBs, so in that sense we now are stronger in that position and I therefore have no problem with Ake being sold.

I was merely pointing out that Ake's 'physical limitation' is very different to Christensen's, a lack of physical presence can easily be worked on whereas a lack of height can't.

I do have to personally add that I don't think that Ake's height is an issue as he can leap like a salmon and doesn't actually lose out that much in the air.

I agree with your analysis for the most part, however Azpilicueta is a few inches shorter than Ake and he more than makes up for it with his other abilities. If Ake would have played he would have inevitably played in a similar way to Azpi albeit on the left side of the 3 instead - particularly as he simply is not physically imposing enough to play in the center in my opinion.

In all honesty to get 20m for Ake is good business, would never be good enough to start for the team and I think a lot of fans' desire to see the youth promoted clouds their judgment a lot of the time. If I remember correctly, he was in and out of the team when on loan at Bournemouth last season, and if he did play it was normally at left back. There was no need to recall him last year and I think the fact that he scored a few key goals overshadowed the fact that he was kept out of the Bournemouth side by Cook and Francis.

Christensen holds a lot more promise: was a starter at a top German side and has experienced European football level over the past few years. Where I think Christensen has an edge is that he looks more than capable on the ball which is crucial for a modern centre back. I also think Monchengladbach played a similar defensive system to Chelsea so hopefully will adapt far quicker.

We sold another player for 20mil for whom we could have said the same exact thing.

Christensen's on another level by all account's.

Having said that he won't be starting immediately but if he's as goos as people say he is im sure he will earn a spot eventually given Antonio's track record. I don't see why there's any reason to rush him in either, a couple of year's of him slowly progressing his role, development and adjustment to our high expectation's and then at 23 Luiz and Cahill will be in there 30's and on the way down and he (injury permitted) will have a spot for the next decade.

"Everyone knows what's happened today. We are proud of our second half, we fought well, but we'd made it difficult for ourselves. Now we have to look forward," Christensen told reporters.

"It felt like, once we scored our first, the belief grew in the stadium and the noise, everything, went to a higher level. In the end we could have got something from the game. We have to work in our next game at Tottenham how we played in the second half today."

thought he played well and was solid in that burnley game. he also was unfortunate with his disallowed goal. his passing range is really good and he looks very composed too. i hope we don't mess this up and show more faith to him. he really has come on leaps and bounds since his loan spell.

So should we sell him and buy that certain flavour of the month?

Great performance from him. Definitely deserves to be starting ahead of Rudi in the next game.

Conte has got a problem, thats for sure.

A good problem, the best problem to have. CB has hell of a lot of competition this season, they are all good players.

True that. What I fear is that if Andreas loses his place after this performance and with GC coming back 2 games later, he goes back to be 5th choice CB, he WILL ask to leave.

Hope meritocracy takes precedence.

Anyone who saw him play regularly for the youth teams would not have have been surprised at his performance today. He is classy player, never goes to ground unless it's absolutely necessary, vocal organiser, and is very composed on the ball. If we give him the platform, he will be in the top 5 centre backs in the world, and it's that belief that has made me vocal about not wanting vvd.

Thought he looked out of pmace in the first half. Seemed nervous and struggled with Kane. Second half was completely different, looked absolute class. Composed, showed great positioning and so calm with the ball at his feet

Yeah he looked of the pace first half, looked a bit overwhelmed. But second half was outstanding, I would love to know what Conte said to him.

@DonAntonio Do you get a little of what the hype was about after today's game.

Thought he played extremely well, bossed Harry Kane for the majority of the game and looked super composed, obviously has aspects of his game to work on but at 21 he looks potentially amazing.

I think he made a few mistakes he was nervous maybe, but he has the attributes, I still don't think he is ready but if he gets a good amount of games this run He should be good enough next year, I think he gives more in many ways than Garry and I'm not a big fan of Garry but we missed leadership at the back to day, looked rattled at times.

He gets his foot in well, we defended corners brilliantly which was a problem last year, today I saw Dave isn't a captain, luiz is not of the right mindset although a natural leader, so I think Rudiger will be above Andres to replace Garry unless we decide to play Dave as a RB then he may well get in the team, if we had strength in wb as we had planned he wouldn't start, so I think he should take the opportunity to get as many games as he can.

I liked aspects of what I saw but my honest , honest opinion is he still isn't quite ready to be a starter for Chelsea. If I'm wrong I've no problem admitting it but if anything he confirmed my thoughts in the first half, a much better second half from him, played well.
