Chelsea v Real Madrid (CL Semi-Final 2nd leg) Wed 5th May 2021 20:00 GMT
Is it just me or that assistant ref (our defence side right now) gets a thrill out of flagging offside? Never seen one with such a huge smile whenever he's asked to intervene 😅

Yeah, I'd be willing to give anyone a chance, even on high wages, before spending 65m+ on Lukaku (and the same 200k wages), including spending it all on high quality protein bars for Tammy and Billy, and a new pet for Timo to regain some joy in his life.

That last Zouma's drive shows how Rudi is important in this 3 man backline. Zouma anticipated well but then got caught between two or three minds and missed a good counter opportunity. Rudi has that swagger and confidence to take the ball to the opponent's side and build up some attacking momentum. Well, nothing going on the game atm so this is what I've got 😅

I miss the old 60 min Kova for Barkley, Barkley for Kova sub. Think Tuchel always take a little bit too long to make his subs in the PL

Timo Werner
He's a pretty good footballer + marketing wise is a nice investment, wished we could go after him back when he was at Leverkusen. Just a shame he plays for Spurs and became impossible to root for with his victim antics while kicking player's nuts.

Next new Striker
I couldn't catch the game earlier, so just watched the last 10 minutes, but saw that he scored City's first and at the 88th min made a good movement in the box outpacing his markers, which shows me he may still got the legs to start and finish games. May I ask what is it that you saw? Not disagreeing at all, just curious as I really wanted to see more of him today to evaluate his possible contribution to our team next season.

Next new Striker
If we really go out for a striker this summer I'd love to tempt Lautaro Martinez from Inter, to me he's the perfect mixture of pace, flair, strength, work rate and that "nastiness" that makes strikers feared. Not the tallest, but anticipates well so can get to the end of crosses and is aggressive to win duels. Has everything in him to become as good as Aguero, although Kun was probably a better finisher already at the same age. Maybe is better suited for a two striker formation since he's doing pretty well alongside Lukaku for Conte, but I believe he can lead the line just fine and would link up nicely with Mount & co. Only problem is that Inter are winning Serie A this year, so maybe he wouldn't want to leave, but since they may have some economical troubles we could try to persuade them + giving back Emerson who seems to be rated somehow.

Kai Havertz
Lots of fingers being pointed at Timo (correctly), but I'm way more worried about Kai, specifically about his body language. He always seems a little bit dazed and kinda bored. Hoped tonight's game would prove me wrong and he'd come on looking for blood, but besides that Varane's free kick he mostly strolled around. Ziyech was pressing for both of them imo. Maybe someone good at finding stats can help me with this, but is he one of those guys who thrives playing at home (with all the atmosphere giving him some fuel to burn)? All those goals/assists last year were evenly distributed or did he score 3 in one game and then disappeared a bit?

Timo Werner
It never gets easier for him, does it? I feel torn about him, because he's such a nice guy but he keeps failing in those key moments which will someday crash him (and the team) hard. Come next FM I expect him to have 20 for Off the Ball/Work Rate and 1 for Finishing/Composure. But like others said, I hope we remain calm about his situation and let him flourish for at least another season before making another Salah move and rushing to get the new hot commodity in town.

Donnarumma
Just got trashed by Lazio 3-0, who are challenging Milan for a CL spot. Milan defence was a complete mess but he could've done better on the 2nd and 3rd goals... Worst of all is that after the game he's laughing around with Lazio players after a humiliating defeat to a CL rival... As a captain he really should be doing better than that. Gotta admit, I really dislike him as a person and his whole Raiola circus.

how do we improve our style of play
You're most likely right, I'm counting on his improvement in that area but we'd probably move on from the 1-0s to the good old nerve wrecking 4-3s 😅 As for Billy, is there a PL side where he would be a guaranteed starter? I'm always impressed by Brighton as they put up a good fight against everyone but not sure if he's fit for them. Maybe Palace if Frank does get the job? Don't really follow the Championship so dunno if there's a good side in that mold there.

Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue
Oh don't get me wrong, you're totally right in that we shouldn't be dwelling in the past. But that's precisely why I think he was naive as it's never a good look for the player who says it. He gains nothing out of it, except irking some fans and giving the media fuel for poorly constructed headlines. If he had just moved on from the question we wouldn't even be discussing something he said in his room to friends/journos. IIRC Frank also got some heat back then didn't he? But nevermind that, like Don Antonio said it's just a parallel to the CL triumph, so let's just celebrate Jorginho remarks 😁

Donnarumma
I follow Milan upclose since it was the team I used to watch growing up before the PL appeared on TV here (or streams) and believe we would be better staying far away from Donnaruma and his oh so lovely agent. While he isn't a bad keeper at all, I don't think he's a major upgrade on Mendy, especially for 10M/Year (+ the renewal threats every single year). If he's doing that with his boyhood club, which he loves so much and is finally getting back to a good level, what's not to stop him doing the snake move and leaving Marina out there to find another Kepa in two or three years time. At wages like that, even as a free agent, I'd like to be comfortable knowing we're set in the GK department for a decade, but just can't see him sticking around for more than 3 years unless something drastically changes in his behaviour.

how do we improve our style of play
I don't think we'll move on from the 3 man backline next season without a major signing at the back, and if we really don't then I'd like to see Reece at RCB and CHO/Puli being given the freedom to always have a go at players from RWB like in his first few games for Tuchel. Not sure if any of you agree with me on this but for me Reece at RWB is one of the most infuriating players tbh, I may be a bit harsh on him, but it seems he regressed offensively from last season (just my eye test, didn't check any statistics). At the back he's getting better and better although a little bit reckless sometimes, but upfront he always seems to be messing up his off the ball movements (reacting a bit late for overlaps) or his crossing, which was particularly good before. At RCB I believe he can use his physical attributes to good use, and even though I'm complaining about his offensive skills, he'd be an upgrade over the current Azpi as a second outlet on the right side. Without any change in personnel, that and unleashing Billy is the simplest way I can see for the team to become a little more aggressive (plus the pre-season and the new signings finally getting up to the speed of the PL)

Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue
I'd say Jorgi was a bit naive (and probably a little bit bitter towards Frank and his spell on the sidelines), but in a way I believe the whole interview is set up to catch him off guard on remarks like those. I'm not sure any of you guys saw an image of it, but it was Jorgi at home (late at night before the game against City) and 3 former players (two working as pundits now) + 1 journalist all friendly talking, it's like a very cozy setup that invites you to talk openly about any subject. I also agree that he should have held his tongue, but can almost understand why he didn't, probably thought those words wouldn't even reach overseas, which is a kinda dumb thing to do nowadays. I'm not really sure how those interviews are done in the British media, but here in Brazil they're mostly always like that, which is no wonder why players like Willian get caught with some really controversial remarks. Anyway, to answer Jangz question, while I'd definitely move on from Jorgi as a starter next season (and give Billy a chance before spending another 60M), has he produced twice than 30M Danny? 😅 If so I'd say he paid his due, especially being pivotal to Sarri's transition system and helping us reach CL in all his years here. In hindsight he was a bit overpriced, but at the time was also sought by City so it's understandable. Plus prices are kinda crazy anyway.

I'd say he complained about Azpi time wasting while exchanging the armband with Jorginho... It's the only reason I could think of. But I also really wanna know what exactly was said to him.

Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue
Hi guys, longtime lurker from Brazil here! Just watched Jorginho's interview and thought I should add some interesting bits to this topic. - About Frank, he did say all that about his coaching inexperience, said that maybe with more experience at Derby or other clubs maybe Frank could have reacted better in some games and/or on expressing what he wanted from the players. I thought he was also humble in admiting he himself wasn't fit to what was asked of him, to adopt a more direct style, long passes, as that doesn't really suit his game at all, so Jorginho understood that and tried hard to adapt on training. - On that note, he said TT is quite clear on what he wants, and has the know-all to speak to everyone on and off the field, which is kinda expected considering TT's experience. (Although some in-game reactions from Tuchel have also been very suspicious, I mean, Reece at LB???). - He also spoke on how Sarri and TT have very similar philosophies as far as football goes, with all the focus on passing the ball around quickly, keeping it short, on the ground. - About his penalty technique, he revealed it came up by accident on a post-training challenge he used to do against a Brazilian CB while in Napoli. He fooled around and came up with it and as the results were pretty good he stook with it. He said it's all about the keeper moving a bit in that millisecond where he hops, so he can choose a side. And if the GK doesn't react then he has a spot where he feels more comfortable hitting the ball. - On the PL, he enjoys the intensity of the game and is amazed by how the players are so strong and still running in the dying seconds of a match, and said he struggled a bit with that on his first game/season. It was also interesting to see him saying that he wasn't really aware that Sarri wanted him at Chelsea as he was ready to play for Carlo at Napoli, but suddenly De Laurentis told him that he was also going. Joked (?) that he was ready to move on from Sarri after working with him for 4 years, but since the offer came from Chelsea he gladly accepted. - Finally, to give some fans a little bit of hope, when asked about a possibility of returning to Napoli, he said they'll always have a special place in his heart, and if there's a chance he would surely consider it as he plans to play in Europe at least until the 2022 WC. That's pretty much it! Sorry if it was a bit too long!
