The academy was started from a scratch in the 04/05 season. Before Roman we had virtually no academy, each summer we simply released a number of players, there was 0 income from selling youngsters. Arnesen put the setup together and it actually progressed. 5 years ago talking about the big promises meant talking about 1, maybe 2 players. Now we can draft a list of 5-10 names, easily. We are selling youth products who are surplus to the requirements at Chelsea for money. Half a million here, a million there, seem to be peanuts compered to the owner's wealth, but for me this is a sign of a working academy. Sure there is room for a lot of improvement, but we are headed in the right direction. Maybe we could have improved quicker but not much, these things take time. Also it's worth to mention that the man in the shadow behind the youth setup and Arnesen was and is still de Visser.

Yes we need the best talents if we want the trophies, but the talent could and should come with a backbone. Zola has pretty much set the standard. Mata seems to be a great buy in this regard too.

Yes I mean it. Sure he has talent, but I do not want to see cheats like him, Alves or Busquets in Chelsea. Maybe it's just me, but if I could choose between Robben and Duff in their prime then I would rather bring Duffer back. He was no saint, but players like Di Maria have taken the act to a new level and that is just too much for me. IF we sign him then naturally he has my support - until I can't stomach his antics any more.
