Torres - The "Groundhog Day" Thread
Playing up top in any club in the Prem who are favorites is not easy but Fernando Torres makes it look imposibru. I'm sure when we get a consistent goal scorer people will quickly forget about how difficult it is to score at Chelsea. We are no where near as bad as many clubs in the Prem in terms of setting up chances. The problem is that our strikers are not usually in goal scoring positions - specially Torres and Ba; I'm sure there have been many comments from myself and other posters about this. I maintain that Torres has ALWAYS been poor in selecting his movement inside the box - even at Liverpool out of all his goals possibly a maximum of ten were simple tap ins. He usually either stands around the penalty spot or he is in no position to receive the ball; not making a run; flat footed behind a defender and expecting the ball to somehow end up in his feet. When you have someone making the correct movement you will see how easily we would create chances. Last season against West Brom is a good example - we barely had any chances in the first 60 minutes; Torres gets taken off and suddenly due to having a striker with good movement we created 3-4 clear cut chances.

Romelu Lukaku and who?
Drogba was 20 year old when he joined us? Lets compare maturity and mentality between a 20 year old Drogba and Lukaku.

The Great Summer Clear Out!
I don't even think City are the worse offenders, whole of Spain is bankrupt and local municipality have been banking Real; Barca for ages with deals for their training grounds etc

Willian
As I've said in the other Willian thread, to me he is just a quicker and more technically proficient version of Dirk Kuyt - although Dirk probably had much more successful seasons in terms of statistics than Willian is currently having. If Spurs had ended up signing Willian and he had similar production we'd be laughing at them while their fans would probably be happy because he works hard. I appreciate his tenacity but a lot more is expected from him and he usually fluffs his chances or takes the wrong decision with his passes in the final third. If you look at our Rivals most have him in the top three flops of the season because they don't watch our matches and just look at who scored the goal or who got the assist. Willian is not a highlights player - the question is if we needed a defensive winger why didn't we look for someone who might be a little less expensive.

Romelu Lukaku...to Tottenham? Really?
Another young striker who did not want to stay on the bench while we play players like Torres and Ba up top. Sturridge took a pay cut to join Liverpool; he said upon arrival that all he wanted was to play regularly - RdM froze him out for some reason and failed to play him the next season despite Torres not getting much better despite the arrival of Hazard & Oscar. Lukaku should have been first choice upon Jose's arrival in the end it's Jose decision - he chose Ba/Torres instead of insisting and convincing Lukaku to stay and be given a run in the first team. Eto'o took a few months just to get back to speed. Right now I would do anything to have Lukaku in the squad. I said it when the loan happened - it's the worst decision Jose made; 20 year old's don't call the shots the manager does.

The "I can't believe I got it so wrong" thread
Still think he would have done ok for us(Berbatov); but I think the system would be slightly tweaked - like Hazard; Willian; Oscar; Schurrle; etc making runs into space as he holds up the ball and flicks or passes it into their paths. I've watched him a few times playing at Monaco and he is still quality since speed wasn't really an issue for him - it's a world of difference between playing with Monaco in the French League and playing with the worst team in the Premiership this season.

I wanted us to get Ronnie after he fell out with Pep, in in hindsight he proved to be quite lazy at Milan and we dodged a bullet

Tottenham are a joke, any half decent side is able to score 5 goals against them

Romelu Lukaku and who?
Playing well today against Fulham despite not having scored or assisted. He is a real handful and this is what I like to see - setup several chances and had a hand in the 3rd goal by providing a wonderful back heal into Baines. Hopefully he scores a couple of goals past Arsenal and helps Everton finish above them - that would be hilarious

Crystal Palace v Chelsea (PL) 29/03/14 KO 15:00 GMT
I don't care about passing percentage What I care about the fact that Lukaku has scored 29 goals in two seasons in the Prem while Torres has 19 goals in just about three and half seasons. It's the main thing I want from our strikers - regularly scoring goals in the League which win us points. Until we buy a clearly better striker than Lukaku - he is clearly miles better than Ba/Torres despite his first touch or passing percentage which isn't much worse than either of those two
-
Crystal Palace v Chelsea (PL) 29/03/14 KO 15:00 GMT
Lukaku has 64.9% successful passes Torres has 63.5% successful passes 0.8 key passes per match by Torres; 1 key pass per match by Lukaku So your stats are wayyy off

Patrick Bamford - should he get a chance?

Crystal Palace v Chelsea (PL) 29/03/14 KO 15:00 GMT
If Torres is good enough to start and Ba is good enough to come on as a sub, Until we purchase two strikers who are clearly performing better than Lukaku - he is good enough
