Come one, we are all have a go managers, love to talk big about this player and that and clearly by the match threads should all be managing a top European team and would never loose a game.

Over the 12 years I have been posting here I have seen so many people proclaim "this is the one we need" and more often then not it's the strikers position.

I recall Brian M telling us that we must, must throw every ruble of romans money at Adriano (thanks g-d that didn't happen) I remember disagreeing with that one

Tambling and Brain told us that Eto'o (when still at mallorca) or Zlatan(Ajax) would be the ones (both probably would have been right) wasn't convinced by either

Me personally, I desperately wanted to see Mika Foressel be given the starting sport up front both before and most definably after  his first loan at brum. I declared him the "finish Shevchenko" that one turned out to look pretty stupid.

I was also a big fan of Gilardinio who ended up at Milan, another one that looks like a good escape

More recently I was desperate to land Cavani but I'm not so keen on Costa, time will tell on both those signings.

So fess up, who did you really really want us to sign (or promote from the youth team) and with the benefit of time secretly glad it didn't happen

Two that come to mind off the top of my head are both AC Milan players.

Kaka, we was linked with him for a couple of years and the thought of signing him really excited me... Then he went to Madrid and pretty much bombed.

Pato was the other, another player we was continuously linked with, whenever I saw Milan highlights he always seemed involved and I thought he could bring something new and exciting to our attack... He's now back in Brazil and booed by his own fans for being generally useless.

I wanted us to get Ronnie after he fell out with Pep, in in hindsight he proved to be quite lazy at Milan and we dodged a bullet

I would like to nominate my father who still gets made fun of by local season ticket holders by spending a season saying Drogba was a waste of money and why don't we get the goal machine Forsell back from loan and give him a chance.

Me... I believed Bosingwa was our number one right back over Ivanovic and just suffering a little blip - how wrong I was

No doubt many of us saw Kakuta's debut and thought he was the real deal...

Honestly regardless of how lazy he often was it would have been amazing to see him play for us, on the occasions he can be bothered he is the best entertainer in the history of world football.

I used to think Berbatov would have been a great option for us, not sure if that counts as he actually ended up with a good striking record at Spuds and United.

I'll have to second the Pato one. I remember watching him as a prospect and thinking he was the real deal. I was gutted when he went to Milan.

Turns out he was more interested in Berlusconi's daughter than actually playing football.

A bit different but i didn't want us anywhere near Cahill and still felt the same 6 months after we signed him. The bloke has improved so much it's unbelievable. Glad i was massively wrong

I thought Robinho would complete our squad when Scolari came in and we almost signed him.

Then we got Queresma instead and I was seemingly the only Chelsea fan alive that actually thought he looked quite good in the few brief appearances he had and wanted him to sign a permement deal.

Kind of a double whammy there as both have gone on to prove they weren't the 'real deal' and would have flopped by all accounts.

Still think he would have done ok for us(Berbatov); but I think the system would be slightly tweaked - like Hazard; Willian; Oscar; Schurrle; etc making runs into space as he holds up the ball and flicks or passes it into their paths.

I've watched him a few times playing at Monaco and he is still quality since speed wasn't really an issue for him - it's a world of difference between playing with Monaco in the French League and playing with the worst team in the Premiership this season.

I think a lot of people thought this but I was positive AVB would have a very long and very successful career at chelsea. Player wise I was convinced Adam Johnson was gona to be one of the best english players in the league, he's still capable of a great goal now and then but he's just largely sh*t...

Nicholas Anelka I thought would be a sulky little strop and contribute nothing to the team. I looked to be correct in his first 6 months but he was great for two seasons.

Kezman is somebody who I thought would be immense and a 20-25 goal a season man.

Emmanuel Petit I thought would be a cornerstone in midfield and I bogged him up to all my arsenal mates (though I was around 10 when we signed him.

Scott Parker likewise I thought was going to control the midfield in a way Essien did. On Essien I was unsure and sceptical why we replaced Tiago.

Cahill I didn't want us to touch, but he has grown and grown.

Now for the one I called: Torres. I said it would not work in the slightest as we had Didier and I saw him as a dying horse. I joked he would be better at right back and he was (well at left back) against Barca.

I make a lot of bad calls on the whole though.

I thought Torres would score 25-30 a season easily...........

I also thought Kezman would bang them in for fun.....

I don't think Costa will work (so hopefully I get this wrong too)

Of our more recent ones I have, in the main, been proven right in my initial gut reaction. Having seen potential for good, sometimes great, things from the likes of Dider, Eidur, Frank, Duff, Robben etc.

However the one that really stands out as a bad call that I was excited about and could contribute a lot to us was Chris Sutton.

Hazard.

I never liked him before he came, I thought he was very arrogant and very overrated. So when he first arrived I wasn't as fond as everyone else was, I didn't even like the look of him in pre season besides the A.C. Milan game. However I just remember that game they had against MLS all stars and Hazard was terrible, he was very lazy and didn't try. When I saw his commitment It did put me off him a bit more. And that is why pre season means nothing besides fitness.

It's strange because recently I just posted on the Hazard thread that he could be the best player we've ever had at the club. I got a lot of sh*t for the things I said about Hazard on another forum for when he first arrived, and rightly so. But I can't say I'm not happy to be wrong.

Adam Johnson, I really wanted us to sign him before he went to City, I thought he would have been a quality winger for us.

Similar vein, I thought Scott Sinclair was going to be the one to finally break through from the youth team and be a part of the first team squad.

Zenden was one I desperately wanted and when we got him I thought that would be the piece to push us in title contention.

Probably the biggest one I think is that I wanted Gio Van Brokhorst, or however it's spealt as was quite disappointed when we plumped fromo lampard instead of him, the when gooners got him I was doubaly upset...

who knew hey

At the start of Ramires's Chelsea career i thought he was totally sh*t and not worth the money we'd paid.

I thought that too and I'm starting to feel it again, hope his form/injury improves so he can prove me wrong again.

Some of these are a bit harsh to be fair, I think it's interesting to what could have been in some cases.

For example, i think if Kaka could have avoided injured we'd be talking about as one of the greats

At one time or another I wanted us desperately to sign robinho, tevez, pato, and adriano, all of which look like they would have beenpoor signings.

But I was very vocal about hazard from probaly around 2011, and I was hoping we would sign aguero for years.

I was gutted we didnt sign neymar and I still think he is an excellent player.

Not really sold on Costa, and if there was any player id want here next season, it would be paul pogba.

Tevez I wanted massively, I'm not sure he would have flopped. I actually think he was instrumental in city winning the league and helped united out as well.

Aguero was a given, I actually thought he would 100% end up at Chelsea. And agree with Neymar as well, really wanted him
