I think one of our biggest problems was there was no real competition for a place on the first team, players like Deco and Ballack were often deservedly criticized but if players of their calibre were vying for first team football there would have been more hunger in the squad. Terry, Lampard, Essien and Torres all look like their best days are long gone. We need a clear out.

I think how David Luiz plays could be crucial to this tie. I thought we really missed his pace in defense against United over 2 legs. I think with Torres starting to improve his form and with Drogba playing excellently we're in much better form. United have fallen against a very average Arsenal team this week and have a critical game against Schalke. I think these factors are definitely in our favour but that United are an extremely well coached team so I won't be taking them lightly anyway!

In fairness to José he set up his team to play the beautiful game at the Nou Camp, they got thrashed 5-0. Maybe it's just sentimentality but I really miss José's influence here at Chlesea, he's able to spot great talents and assemble a squad , and he's often shown himself to be a tactical genius. Surely Arsenal on Successive occasions have proven that you can't hope to out Barca , Barca? Only Guus matched him as a man-manager and tactically, perhaps he could have proven himself to be the man to re-develop a world class squad. You make some great points, don't get me wrong. José at his worst was almost a paranoiac and if one had a tendency towards paranoia and one was playing in a competition where refereeing decisions are almost invariably questionable at best and outrageous at worse I think one would play an extremely defensive game.But personally I'd like those self-described saviours of football to be taken down by any means necessary. Nani has the fortitude of Popeye compared to the divers of the most talented side in the world. José has a team set up to counter-act the strengths of his opponents, Pep has a team who when nullified moan , groan and bitch to get their way. Which of these is truly anti-Football?

If that's the case we can only hope that it's an extended bidding war to get him, one of the only noticeable kinks in his game last night was his unwillingness/inability to boss the Schalke defense. Besides that he looks like a new Schmeichel unfortunately.

There's only one benefit of having Benitez, he's coached Torres before. But everything else about this rumour puts a sour taste in my mouth. As has been pointed out he ruined successful Liverpool and Inter Milan teams, he's an egotist and he rotates players who are in form out of his teams for no good reason . He always buys players on the cheap even when there's money. He never learnt the importance of quality over quantity, he was the perfect scouser always robbing cheap knock-offs never the real deal.
