Drogba or Zola
Sure, Drogba let Chelsea down a few times....most noteably in Moscow. But then you have to remember if it wasn't for his display and two goals against Liverpool in the semi, we wouldn't have been there.

Drogba or Zola
I disagree with that. Even if they were converted and Chelsea didn't go onto with the CL, you could still make a strong case for Drogba's Chelsea career being greater. As players, they're not really comparable in any way as they're so different......but Drogba's impact in important matches has been immense.

Drogba or Zola
I love Zola but genuinely believe Drogba is Chelsea's greatest ever player now. Sure, he had some bad moments.....but the amount of times he got us out of trouble is unbelievable. The ultimate big game player.

Can CFC rivalries really change?
I used to loathe both United and Pool for the very same reason......but now the plastics down South who have never set foot in the cities, let alone stadiums of United and Liverpool don't bother me in the slightest. I don't consider them supporters and don't really talk to them about football as I have utter contempt for them.

Can CFC rivalries really change?
I think it all depends on whether or not the rivalry or 'hatred' is reciprocated. Chelsea hate Spurs....and Spurs hate Chelsea....so it is a rivalry. Likewise with Leeds, United in more recent years, Liverpool and Arsenal. Fulham and QPR will never be a proper rivalry as long as Chelsea couldn't give a flying bumhole about either of those clubs. The playing side also comes into it as this can intensify an existing rivalry....or even create a new one. But some fixtures will remain a strong rilvalry regardless. If we played Leeds tomorrow, both sets of fans would be desperate not to lose. For an example, think of United and City before City's new found wealth. You can't tell me it wasn't a strong rilvary before due to the clubs having different on field aspirations. They still hated eachother and were desperate to win the derby.

Hulk coming to Chelsea?
Agreed....money talks and having Paris as a pull also helps them. I think it is about time PSG became a big player. The team of Paris should be really.

Ashley Cole
Possibly.....but then I think they've had a good enough nucleus to win trophies in the past few years (domestic cups at least) and have bottled it.
-
Ashley Cole
Do you think Gooners still think Cole signed for Chelsea purely for the money? After winning 4 FA Cups, a League Cup, a Premier League Title and a Champion's League? Whereas if he had stayed at Arsenal he would have won nothing in that time. They said the same about Nasri. "You only went for the money!" Yet he has won the title immediately. Of course more money was part of the attraction.....it is for anyone in any profession.....but they also left to join teams who win trophies. More money + trophies = no brainer. Yet the Arsenal fans don't seem to want to admit this. Despite it being exactly the same scenario as when Sol Campbell left Spurs to join them all those years back. They applauded that transfer as logical. Their hypocrisy astonishes me.

The headhunters?
I got racially bashed once too - even though I am a caucasian. I was in the butchers and bought a string of sausages. However, the butcher had no plastic bags left so I decided to carry them home on my head.....wrapping the sausages around my bonce. On the way home, I was literally bushwacked in a bush by some Millwall Bushwackers in Shepherd's Bush who mistook the sausage headwear for a Sikh turban. I recieved two black eyes like a panda....and some broken ribs for good measure. That said, I did allow myself a wry chuckle when I realised the irony in that most of the Sikh people I know are vegetarians so would never wear a sausage turban. I hope this irony was not lost on The Bushwackers and they also enjoyed a whimsical grin. Back on track, does anybody else think that McIntyre was the totally wrong man for the documentary? He is a pretty camp Southern Irishman....and he was chosen to infiltrate a group of meathead, far right British Loyalists. A really bizarre choice....and he was useless too. Like when he fainted whilst getting that tiny Chelsea tattoo.....and had to teach himself how to smoke properly like Tucker Jenkins in The Grange Hill bike sheds. Or when Laudrup scored in Copenhagen and he didn't know how to celebrate. He looked like a Dad at a wedding reception trying to dance. Truly pathetic. It was like watching Cliff Richards trying to infiltrate the Hell's Angels. And some of the pious comments on here about the show have gotten on my t1ts. Sure, Mariner is hardly going to make sparkling dinner conversation....and the man is clearly a bit of a tool......but to say he isn't a proper Chelsea fan just cause he has been involved in violence is farcical. He has been to far more Chelsea matches than the majority of people on this website....back when we had a mediocre team too. I think the Police spend too much time and money on this sort of thing. As Carlshalton Blue points out, Mariner got 6 years without even throwing a punch. What did he do? Walk around gesticulating a bit....and make a few off comments? F*** me....have the Police not got more important things to crack down on? You could set fire to a baby and throw it in The Thames and receive less of a stretch in the clink.

More tales of days gone by....
The bit about Chelsea's 'fickle' support and hangers on is inaccurate and yet more bullsh*t from West Ham. Chelsea's home attendances were far from 'shocking' in the mid 70's when we went down. They were actually pretty impressive for a second division side.....particularly in the promotion season on 76/77. Early 80's, yes, they were poo.....but not mid-late 70's. West Ham need to pipe down about Chelsea's gates. They only averaged 24,836 in 1966 (the year 'they' won the World Cup).

Are Liverpool our 'rivals'?
I don't know how some of you can say Liverpool are an irrelevance to Chelsea. Sure, they're not the force they once were, winning the league every season......but they always give us a good game. Bloody hell, they beat us three times out of four last season (although of course we won the one that mattered...and we clearly weren't bothered about the league game at Anfield). So for me, of course they're a rival.....we've had some epic tussles with them in recent years. What does annoy me about them (their fans) is all that 'no history' b0ll0cks. For me, it is a farcical thing to say. How can you have 'no history' whene club were formed over 100 years ago? You can't equate a lack of league championships to 'no history'....it is two entirely different things. A f***ing tortoise who has been living in a cardboard box eating lettuce for 45 years has a history! And so does an unemployed scouser.....a history of sitting in his house all day, scratching his balls, eating cheesy wotsits and waiting for his giro. If they truly believe that, then Liverpool ceased to exist at the end of the 89/90 season. If they really do think it is all down to a historical haul of trophies....then they must feel are an awful lot of clubs with no history. I have a mate who supports Palace....now they have never won a major trophy ever....and they were formed in the same year as Chelsea. Try telling my mate they have 'no history' - and that none of the matches that he or his Father/Grandfather attended count for anything. It is just a really stupid, ignorant and of course arrogant thing to say. Just cause Chelsea weren't winning many trophies, it doesn't mean nothing was happening and the history of the club wasn't being formed. Of course, not all Liverpool fans think this. In fact, it is ironically the ones who know little of Liverpool's history who say this. The Scousers with better memories who were actually there when they were mopping up trophies at home and abroad, will recall Chelsea dumping them out of the FA Cup in 1966, 1978, 1982 and 1997. So sure, we may not have been the best side around, but were still about.

That was indeed a fine strike by Wilkins. He scored some cracking goals in his career. The chip for Chelsea against Hereford (or possibly Southampton? Not sure), the curler for United in the 1983 FA Cup Final against Brighton, the one for England against Belgium in the 1980 Euros when he ran through the defence and lobbed the keeper....and also a great volley he scored in the Old Firm derby in the late 80's. My favourite part of the Chelsea vs Sheffield United clip here was how impressed Brian Moore was with Peter Bonetti's 'spectacular warm up sequence'.....which consisted of some bog standard kick ups. Imagine if he were alive today to see some of the mad sh*t people like Neymar can do. He'd ejaculate all over his tweed trousers.

Hi Garry Jones, Is the 'missing link' website about Chelsea from 1976 to 1983 yours?

I think the second to last one of those Liverpool 1988 photos may have been taken directly after Liverpool scored. I'm pretty sure John Barnes scored a 30-yard free-kick in that game and looks as if the Chelsea players are walking away from goal after conceding. It looks like Joe McLaughlin kicking the ball out with the keeper (Hitchc0ck?) sitting dejected on the ground. Can't see any cheeky, salt of the earth Scousers cheering in the west though.

Eerie footage of the Bridge from 1979
Does anyone remember these sort of snide Mars Bars they sold at Chelsea? Must've been the early 90's. The same nougat, caramel and chocolate combo.....just with cheaper ingredients and a different name which I can't remember.

Quite an interesting video here on the East Stand from 1990. The presenter talks a lot of cr@p in a rather camp manner but it is still nice to see the various shots in and around the stand.

Sadly, I don't think they're particulary interested in any facts which may challenge their ignorant rubbish mate. I've got Jimmy Greaves' autobiography here and it makes for interesting reading. At the back it lists every game he played for Spurs (but not Chelsea which annoyed me a bit). It also lists the attendances. Here are the attendance for the Chelsea Spurs games at the Bridge he played in for Spurs: 61/62 - 51,282 63/64 - 57,401 63/64 FA Cup - 70,123 (that was the replay. The first game at WHL got 49,382) 64/65 - 51,390 64/65 FA Cup - 63,205 66/67 - 54,191 67/68 - 53,049 68/69 - 48,412 Now if I were to present this to a rival supporter, no doubt they'd read it......then just say "erm....yeah.....but what about when you got 9,000 against Coventry in 1994?" like the tedious, ignorant, pig headed moron they are. For sure, the 9,000 vs Cov happened - as did a host of other crap home gates at Chelsea.....but it's not fair to single them out and draw your conclusions from them only. It's as if some hand picked attendances from the 80's and early 90's are the only thing that counts....and attendances like the ones I just listed at The Bridge above don't....and never even happened. It appears that 'history' only counts when referring to trophies.....not attendances.

When you think about it, Chelsea's attendances have only really been poor for about a 20 year period (from say the relegation year of 1975 up until around 1995). Ironically, this was probably also Chelsea's best era for away support. But prior to the mid 70's and after the mid 90's, Chelsea have had healthy attendances which explains why we're 5th in the all time list.....this despite winning nothing during the first 50 years of formation and nothing between 1971 and 1997. Supporters of other clubs only tend to dwell on that 20 year period when assessing the size of Chelsea's support. Cherry picking rubbish homes gates. They ignore the fact that you could do this for almost every club.....particularly during this period when football attendances were at a low all over the country for a number of reasons. They also ignore the fact that historically, Chelsea have recorded some of the highest ever home attendances in English football.

"Vialli..Vialli..Vialli!"
Right, sorry, I'm with you. Yeah, it was pretty mad. A demented jig in a snow storm.

"Vialli..Vialli..Vialli!"
His second goal in the Tromso game was probably the better of the two. Then of course came the replay. "What's it like to play on grass?"
-
"Vialli..Vialli..Vialli!"
Best Vialli goal for Chelsea anyone? I like the header against Everton. Quite iconic when you think of the players involved. Gullit down the line to Zola....Zola beats his man to cross to Vialli who powers home a header past a helpless and fat Neville Southall. The one against Barnsley away in the 6-0 was probably the best technically though.

Scholes is laughably overrated
Yup....and Xavi and Iniesta have 3 Champions League medals....as well as the World Cup and European Championships. If you pointed this out to Xavi himself though.....he'd say it doesn't matter as he is sh*t compared to Scholesy. Ha ha. Regarding his personality and character which other people have brought into this.......I always find him quite drab. Because he shuns the limelight and drives a modest car and lives in a modest house, people praise him. If anything, I think he should be ridiculed for this. All that money and he lives his life like a suburban mouse. He should give me his money as he clearly doesn't know what he is doing with it. Not saying he should be Michael Barrymore.....just less like Roy Cropper from Coronation Street.

Scholes is laughably overrated
Look at this quotes from Xavi: "In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more." And this one from Edgar Davids: "Every one of us (midfielders) is just trying to become as good as him. Everyone can learn from Paul Scholes". Now I rate Scholes but it seems weird to have too such esteemed players bum licking him so much. Xavi plays with a far superior player in Iniesta and is better himself. Davids played with better midfielders too. Between about 1995 and 2003, Scholes was top notch. Can't argue with that. But he only retired at the end of last season and he didn't do a great deal between 05 and 11. 15 premier league goals from the 05/06 season to the 10/11 season is a pretty paltry return. Lamps has scored 81 Premier League goals in those same seasons.

Chelsea best XI of the 90s
Can't really argue with those teams. Possibly Hughes up front as opposed to Flo. How about a worst one?
