That video was really underwhelming, especially for someone supposedly worth 40-50 mill. Im not a fan of Matic at all, but I cant see the upgrade. Slow, not a good passer, clumsy on the ball but shields it well, offers feck all offensively. Yeah he can "burst a run" when he has a huge gap, should be expected of a professional footballer. The more I see of him the less I like him

I cant belive how much people downplay this. Matic is absolutely crap in the air, cant time a jump or get his boots of the ground to save his life. I cant remember one aerial duel hes won in his time here. Even got beat by Kyle Walker. Verrati is not going to be a downgrade at all. Its the exact same thing with Azpi, after Dele Alli scored against us that he was "found out" and teams would start exploting it. Yet it never happened bacuse despite his height Azpi has great leaping ability, excellent timing and great positioning. You cant have a team full of midgets but theres more to being a good header of the ball then just being tall

I agree his pace and athletecism was a welcome addition at the time, especially because Ivan, Cahill and Terry were taken advantage of week after week by faster quicker players. His success at the time had more to do with our scheme. Mourinho didnt want our defenders to see a lot of the ball and we were defending deep which means poor positioning is less of a factor. Under Conte the defenders see more of the ball and we defend higher up the pitch, Zouma is dreadfull on the ball and still fairly poor positioning which is why he struggles. Also not playing football at a high level for a year comes into play. Physically hes fully recovered, hes just a poor fit for Contes three man defense.
