We need to keep Fabregas locked under the stairs in Cobham, that magic is absolutely glorious.

Aside from his goal, I thought Costa was very poor and as has been discussed to death could have been sent off at any moment. Michy from what I've seen isn't as good a finisher, but links up better and would have given us fresh legs just as we began to let up on them. I might have been carried away in the moment, but at the time I thought literally any change we make would have led to our second.

I meant to say is that the game should have been put to bed far earlier, which a couple of early subs could have made happen so that we would have avoided such a tense finish.

I do think though that he was too late in utilising his subs last night. Whilst it turned out to be the right call, I would have subbed Michy on for Costa and Pedro for Willian about 15 minutes before we actually did.

It feels so damn good to be celebrating a win with some optimism...like breathing in the purest fresh air

That booking for 'dissent' is a stupid rule, what classifies dissent? Seems like any form of somewhat raised voice is a booking, Costa was hardly screaming in his face. There's going to be a lot of very soft red cards this year for all teams.

Matic for me, looked more assured tonight than he has since 2014. Used his strength brilliantly and looked far less skittish than usual- still needs to work on using his right foot though.

I'm no expert on youth, but doesn't his scoring record indicate he has the skillset? He is admittedly unproven at senior level, but he can only beat what's in front of him and seems to have done that with aplomb.

Could Mikel and Chalobah both play CB if need be? Chalobah in particular I know has played there before, but in Mikel's case he has strength and an ability to tackle plus is a calm distributor of the ball.

He got zero service yesterday, our idea of build-up in the first half was having Cahill long ball it to where Costa was outnumbered usually about 4 to 1. His all-around game has never been the best, so it was no surprise that he struggled without support.

Is it me or is every tackle in these friendlies a foul?

I don't like judging on pre-season, but Matic has shown zero signs of recapturing his old form. Can't defend, pass or do anything really...looking forward to Kante.
