No. It's because he truly loves the club and plays for the shirt which is rare. He knows when he plays bad and tries to rectify it and genuinely cares about the club and supporters. He played through munich half injured and helped deliver the european cup. I think he deserves a lot of respect for that alone. I watched it again now, It wasn't even willian he was supposed to be marking. He is on his man, see's bertrand slip and he immediately runs over to cover while hazard (I think) just gives up even trying to get at him. He VISIBLY jumps when bertrand slips and goes over to cover, and mikel takes his man while someone is strolling back to the box who easily could have covered willian. The cross itself was very lucky because luiz actually gets a leg to block it but it deflects right into willian.

So when bertrand falls over in the box, he must just leave the winger through on goal or give him all the time in the world to make the cross? Or go over to provide cover as he did. Alrighty then. He isn't an idiot, and for all we know he is doing exactly what the manager is telling him. No need to be so condescending.

He quite clearly is given license to go forward. John Terry also makes runs forward and usually mikel sits back and covers their position. This has been the way of the land for a while. But RdM seems to favour all out attack, so he will most likely keep playing luiz because he offers so much going forward.

Yeah I probably exaggerated but in the past 2 years I'm certain he played mainly as a RB and when fit luiz and/or cahill was preferred ahead of him.
