Virosh
I guess I am lucky that I watched it on a stream over the web and it was Setanta that showed the game. Not the best of coverage and the commentary was sooooo cliched and trite, but I did get to see the goal. (probably woke up my roommate giving out a yelp, but don't tell anyone) Edited February 4, 2009 by Virosh
TheWestwayWonder
oh my, cant believe this happened after such a dire game, by all accounts. Not to enjoy your misery bjd, but I had to emit a chuckle when I read this. Not at all funny, really as ITV seem to be a total joke on the balance of their football broadcasting this evening, but it made me recall two comments I saw in a thread I was following at work on the match I put up with 2 hours of what can only be described as putrid sh*te only for ITV to cut to adverts causing me to miss the goal. What a f**king joke. and Imagine being a LFC fan watching thatOn 27 mins you cut to the FA cup ITV advert, you get 10 seconds of that then it cuts to the Golf 'matrix type' advert with the German dance track and you cut back 20 seconds later with Goodison in jubiliation and the first camera shot is all Everton players celebrating the last one especially, that mental image was just too much

Mike O
I suffered as well last night. The only thing that could have made it worse would have ben a cut back from the ad break to a Liverpool goal. ITV are a complete joke. Their biggest problem is that they feel they have to spend the entire game selling you the match - lots of 'who knows, this could explode into the stuff of legends?' when in fact it's one of the worst games ever etc
Tim
Watched it as well, and they are truly pathetic I have to agree. I did, however, also laugh when it cut back to the goal and all the Everton players and fans going mental, as the Scousers must have been incandescent. Ruh Buh Juh
Didn't see it live, but my Dad called me in to show it to me. Absolute disgrace. Should be banned from anything football related, give the Champions League rights to BBC and everyone's happy.
Alan
ITV are indeed a joke. Their FA Cup highlights programmes are also pretty shocking.
geezer
From BBC website........ FA wants answers over missed goal Dan Gosling celebrates after netting the crucial goal for Everton The Football Association (FA) is demanding "a full explanation" into how viewers missed a crucial FA Cup goal due to a technical hitch. Everton's winning strike in extra time happened as ITV1's coverage abruptly went to an advert break. ITV boss Michael Grade has said the glitch, which has prompted 1,000 complaints, was "inexcusable". An automated system for screening adverts was still in place during the extended Liverpool v Everton match. It is used when schedules are running normally, and fails to take overruns into account. 'Stringent procedures' Viewers in some regions were still able to see substitute Dan Gosling's goal, but others returned to the coverage during the players' celebrations. "Technically it came at a particularly bad time for us," said host Steve Rider before saying sorry. As a football fan myself, I was glued to the match and was as disappointed as anyone to miss the goal Michael Grade, ITV executive chairman Grade said: "As a football fan myself, I was glued to the match and was as disappointed as anyone to miss the goal." He added: "We have years of experience in dealing with the changes in ad break patterns when games go into extra time and sometimes penalties. "This we have done faultlessly through the Champions League, World Cup and European Championships. "We are awaiting the results of our technical inquiry so we can put in place stringent and immediate procedures to address this," he added. In a statement, ITV called the occurrence an "unprecedented transmission error". But the FA has called for a fuller explanation, saying the mistake was "very disappointing". "It is important that lessons are learned and that this does not happen again," the FA said in a statement on its website. Everton fan Robbie Hall said: "I was watching on Freeview and once the adverts got under way we had no idea what was going on. "After about 10 seconds the game returned just as Gosling scored. I saw the goal live but it was a mess." Paul Snowdon from Merseyside said: "ITV needs to start taking its football seriously. This should never have happened." BLUENUT
ironically I was telling a mate in work yesterday when I waited to see our goals away on The Big Match highlights years ago, i hink we'd won 2-0 - they had a tiny bit of footabge for the 1st goal, like it hitting the net, and then they said ''Speedie by name Speedie by nature, he was so quick our cameraman missed his penalty.'' How does a cameraman miss a penalty? It's not like it's a shot out of the blue is it? I will now boycott ALL games on ITV unless we're playing. Shocking - absolutely shocking coverage. loz
Am I alone in thinking that the reaction to the ITV cock up the other night is a tad over the top? ITV's football coverage is, in general, atrocious - there is no denying that and the sooner it is taken off them the better. However is it not possible that this standalone incident is just human error - a cock up that, although very regrettable, is just one of those things that can happen to anyone at some point. I have no idea how TV works but could it be possible that someone hit a button by accident? I really have no idea how it happened but judging by the reaction to it you could be forgiven for thinking ITV said their canteen staff sh**ed Jonathon Ross's pets. Its not bad luck, its incompetance.

I understand what you are saying Loz but i think most people understand that it was a mistake and that mistakes do happen. I think there has been so much hype and furore about this because yet again ITV have totally ballsed up when it comes to sports coverage. I dont think people can take any more substandard sh*te from them, thus the extended outcry.
Ruh Buh Juh
Did anyone see Soccer AM this morning? With John Barnes about to a baton-twirling Soccerette challenge? Well, that cut out aswell, then it came back when it announced John Barnes won the challenge and was celebrating? And then after the adverts, some guy who was said to be the vice president of Sky Sports apologising in a very, very mickey-take way...taking the mick out of ITV? Possibly... TheWestwayWonder
Some pretty hilarious parodies of this situation on youtube now, with the moon landing and the oj trial, if anyone is looking for a laugh ;) blueday, I heard about that situation too. True that this was much much better I kind of agree with Loz. Saw a clip with one of the ITV directors being asked "will heads roll for this?" and he was visibly shocked and uncomfortable. I feel bad for anyone losing their job, but jesus, what a mistake. From what I heard it would be better if ITV were never allowed to show football again. Anyone wanna shed light for non Britons on why the BBC doesnt show anything besides MOTD? Are the broadcasting rights just too much?
