If you were to name 6 players before looking at the nominees, would any of these be on it?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5187230,00.html

For his form at the start of the season I'd give it to Giovanni of Hull, but as there hasn't been a solid candidate, I'd hand it to Gigg's for services rendered, although he hasn't had a great season either.

Ronaldo's nomination is just taking the piss, he can't even get a game in Utd's first eleven at the moment.

Of those 6, only Vidic really deserves a place on it. And possibly Ferdinand aswell.

Why isn't Lampard on it, who's been playing his best football for years?

I couldn't name 6, but of the actually nominees, Ronaldo definitely doesn't deserve to be on it. How can a player that's kicked 4 people be on the list? He isn't a scratch on his form of last season.

Giggs, Starfish and Vidic are the only three that were on my list too.

Lamps should have been in it - he has been one of the most consistent and injury-free players in the country. A. Cole also deserves to be there.

Ronaldo is surely picked for former glory. He has been nowhere near as good as he was and his rare flashes in a sea of frustration and whining do not merit a place among the nominees.

Giggs is on there totally because of media hype. Alonso should also have been nominated in stead of Ickle Stevie, but that was never gonna happen...

Quite what Frank has to do to get a mention these days....?

Let me guess, Macheda is up for young player too ::ChELSeAFaN:: ?

For me the Young player of the year is a straight fight between Ashley Young and Steven Ireland.

I think van der Sar deserves a place on the list. It's up to the defence as well to keep it tidy at the back, but van der Sar has had a record breaking season so far, so I can see why he's on the list.

firstly, it's a joke that players vote in feb and march... this is why these lists are rarely credible. ginola had a couple of good months at the right time and won the award in the season man united won 3 major trophies, for example.

secondly, while ronaldo has scored a lot again, he's not been one of the best in the league. anelka is rightly not there, ronaldo should not be there for the same reasons.

thirdly, giggs has been good, but hasn't played very much, and his inclusion is totally down to sentiment. there have easily been 15 better players. I find it incredible that anyone would include him... would you include belletti?

fourthly, van der sar has proven he has become very average, and his record is down to his defenders. when tested he has been poor. there have been five better keepers easily- ferdinand and vidic deserve nominations, as does gerrard, but the likes of hangelaand, jagielka and particularly alonso and lampard can all be very disappointed.

You've saved me posting G4 (although I'm now posting anyway!). Can never understand why they do this so early. Say Lamps goes on to score 10-12 goals between now and the end of the season, including goals that clinched us a Premier League and FA Cup double, it would make a mockery of whoever gets this award. Surely it could be done right at the end of the season and then at least it would have some meaning?

Shows what an average season it has been looking at that list and to be honest, I'm not surprised we have no players nominated as it's been pretty average for us too.

Lamps should make the team of the season.

Thing is, he has set himself such high standards. He has had a decent season no doubt, but we all know he has had better and on that basis how can you give him "player of the season". Obviously the same goes for most of the other nominee's on the list. I think it will have to go to Vidic (excluding the complete 'mare he had against the scousers recently).

Giggs has played only 7 games this season????

I think Essien has played more than that!!!!!!!!

I hadn't realised that - he really shouldn't be in the list with just 7 games played. Hell, he shouldn't even be considered !

But he plays for Utd!

I'm suprised Gary Neville never got a mention

yeah I think lamps is the only player in the squad that can be completely happy, perhaps essien given he's been good in the few games he has played.

article suggesting lampard should be THE player of the year.

I know you hate him with a passion G4, but Cashley has, unarguably, had a very, very solid season so far.

Hope that doesn't jinx him for tonight.

As usual, Gerrard is the token vote, shoulda coulda put money on that.

Out of the list, Vidic for me.

Rio Ferdinand - Manchester United - maybe.

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool - probably, but if he's in, Lampard should definitely be in.

Ryan Giggs - Manchester United - joke nomination.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United - joke nomination.

Edwin van der Sar - Manchester United - I can understand why, but still... the likes of Schwarzer have been better.

Nemanja Vidic - Manchester United - probably.

Just having posted this, I read this:

Fulham's Mark Schwarzer, a keeper who has been genuinely busy and helped marshal the most improved defence in the league, must be amused.

It's laughable, what is the point? Why dont they just give it to Stevie G after 5 rounds every season? Everyone want him to win - the FA , the Liverpool fans - the media. Vidic? he looks like a pub player without his pal Rio.

I dont know the rules of the PFA, but isn't that suppose to be the player of the season? Why do they rule out the rest of the players in the league after 31-32 rounds? What if Stevig G get suspended for the rest of the season? :D

And there Cole goes and gets a yellow card that'll keep him out in the first game against Barcelona and it's all your fault, Just [pointing a menacingly finger in your direction]

:D

:loser:

I reckon he got that on purpose. Just didn't fancy a night trying to stop Messi!!
