loz
I have now contacted three newspapers who have mentioned The Shed End in conncetion with death threats (namely The london Standard, thelondonpaper and The Metro). TO all three I have made it clear that we, as a forum, do not condone death threats and that we worked overtime to remove them last night and issue appropriate warnings. I also highlighted the fact that evidence of this action would have been very apparent to thier journalists if they had taken a little more time after grabbing their cheap headline quote. So far I have had a response from thisislondon and The Metro. The Metro have amended their online article (linked below) to make it clear we do not condone it and they are also going to put something in the paper. Metro Link http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?C...p;in_page_id=34 Thelondonpaper responded to say they had updated their article to read Loz Loz's Surname, who runs online Chelsea fansite the Shed End, said: "We were absolutely not condoning these kinds of posts and were doing all we could to remove them and ban or warn members for making them. "We deleted posts that tried to provide contact details for the ref. I personally made posts telling people it wasn't acceptable, we removed posts with references to violence toward the ref and a number of our regulars made posts stating it was unacceptable behaviour." However I do not see that on the webpage yet so I have chased them up. I have not heard back from The Standard yet. Let this be a little reminder to everyone that this is an open space and lazy journalism is rife in this country.

PloKoon13
So that's why you're called loz. ^___^ In all sincerity, hear hear. Any "death threats" that were made here were entirely in jest and were merely post-match banter which went towards describing the frustration felt by the Chelsea community at last night's result. I have already contacted the Evening Standard with my feelings towards what I feel is a gross overreaction. loz performed admirably in clearing up anything he deemed an overreaction on our part. If you want evidence, how many forums have a 'moderator appreciation topic'?
loz
Plenty of credit goes to the rest of the team as well Plokoon - I am at work in the daytime and Mod and ethical pick up the pieces when I am AWOL - I know Mod has had a hell of a day with people trying to join as fake Chelsea fans. Mod
The trouble with this Loz is, a lot use the same article. For instance, if you go onto google news or yahoo news and search, you would get 100's of results all using the same text. Maybe some will pick up that new text now though. Lofty
I can't remember where I saw it, but very probably either on Sky or the BBC site, but there was a report that Norwegian police were actively scanning online forums and so on searching for death threats. So someone could post "that ref - I could kill the bar steward" and have it interpreted as a death threat, when it is in fact nothing of the sort. Because a death threat surely has to be addressed personally to the person being threatened. An email. personal message or letter addressed to xxxxx containing something like "I'm going to kill you xxxxx you sassafrassing sassafragger" is a blatant death threat, no argument. On the other hand, a forum post along the lines of "know that xxxxx, I could kill him because ... blah blah blah etc etc etc " is merely an expression of extreme anger with no intention or threat actually expressed. Now me, I wouldn't kill that ref. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire, but I wouldn't attempt to maim him or otherwise do him physical harm. Mod
Very lazy journalism. I can't believe that the two most popular Chelsea forums get tar'd in with a facebook group purely set up to apparentely 'do the ref harm'. When it stated he received death threats, I imagined proper letters cut from newspaper words, not some 12 year old on facebook setting up a group to make him look good and for his school buddies to join. So all in all, the players are in the sh*t, the club had to release a statement and even the only two worthwhile fan forums get a pop!
loz
Now me, I wouldn't kill that ref. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire, but I wouldn't attempt to maim him or otherwise do him physical harm. I reiterate my point about lazy (and cheap) journalism Lofty - a reporter reads your post and next thing you know we see an article that reads On the Shed End a poster said 'I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire' - the rest of your post would be entirely ignored despite it being spot on. This is a sensitive issue just now and I am doing what I can to minimise bad publicity about the website - it would help me more if people were just a little more careful about what they post over the next day or so. I am not saying pretend yesterday didn't happen, I am not saying don't criticise the ref - he was god awful, but what I am saying is choose your wording carefully. Lofty
I've just scanned through a similar topic (the one with the name of the ref in question). I knew I'd seen those quotes from the Norwegian Old Bill somewhere but didn't realise that they'd already been commented on elswhere on the site. Edit: Point taken loz. I think you know exactly what I was doing - taking the piss of the way they seem to be pro-actively inventing a you-know-what type situation. Maybe I should have actually written "I wouldn't piss on xxxxx if he was on fire", to be on the safe side. Feel free to edit. TheWestwayWonder
Loz, Mod, well well done. Im sure after that game your jobs were extremely difficult, and making the forum members only viewing was a great way to reduce the ammount of yobbery which can be seen by the outside world. To see the journos eat their words, and an emphatic denial right there in black and white, that is truly great stuff. Quite rightly, you stood up for the site and im amazed they took notice and included that. Im sure the people over at CFC net are just as outraged. I wish legal action was possible, but they didnt really imply anything
jack h
Well done guys on doing what you have to do and getting rid of anything the rags could stir up but theyre taking the piss, i bet there hasnt been a single "real" death threat as Lofty said its just a figure of speach and they know that full well
MHedges
Good work Loz. I'm not going to defend the people who made those comments by any means, and I surely can't speak for them...but I am willing to bet those that said those things said them not out of intent, but more out of a moment of hatred for the referee. In the context of everything, I'm sure they would not like him killed at all, or even anything bad to happen to him physically. I even had this conversation last night with my girlfriend: Me: I hope someone kills that ref Her: No you don't Me: I know, but I hope something really bad happens to him Her: No you don't Me: I know...well I hope he never manages another game Her: That's more like it
