geezer
It appears the legendary Maldini could be coming to Chelsea after all. Before you all get on your high horses and say he's retired etc. he's allegedly been offered a coaching role to work alongside Ray Wilkins. It's claimed he was met earlier this week by Ancelotti and a Chelsea representative and has asked for time to consider the offer to which he will reply after his holiday to Miami. geezer
And as if by magic............(didn't see this until after I'd posted the original)................ Maldini linked to role at Chelsea Ancelotti and Maldini won a Serie A title and two European Cups at Milan AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini could be poised to join the backroom staff at Chelsea, BBC Sport understands. A deal would mean the veteran Italian, who spent his 25-year career at the San Siro, teaming up again with coach Carlo Ancelotti, who left Milan for Chelsea. The 40-year-old left-back, who only quit playing at the end of the 2008-09 season, won seven Serie A titles and five Champions League trophies. Talks are understood to be ongoing, although a role has not been specified. Maldini, who made more than 900 appearances for Milan and a record 126 for Italy, speaks good English and is thought to be unhappy with the lack of opportunities at the San Siro since his retirement. 606: DEBATE Is Maldini the right man for Chelsea? BBC Sport's Peter Scrivener Ancelotti has agreed to work with current Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins, who speaks Italian, but he is also thought to want to bring in a fellow countryman. And with Chelsea still looking to replace defensive coach specialist Steve Clarke, who joined Gianfranco Zola at West Ham earlier this year, Maldini could fit the bill. Blue Sun Tzu
How's his English btw? Same as Charlie's? Worse? Better? His is fluent in English apparently. I would be very happy if his appointment was confirmed. Probably the most respected player in the world and would prove invaluable in kntting together the new management team and playing staff. Scott
Maldini is probably my all time favorite non Chelsea player, if he comes to the club I'd be over the moon. No one better in the world to mentor young Mancienne. Wonder what Franco Baresi's doing?

geezer
Yeah, July 1st is when it officially opens isn't it? Aye. Hopefully Maldini could be confirmed by then and that would have a massive impact on attracting players to us along the lines of the Gullitt impact when he came. PloKoon13
is no-one else concerned while were tying up a deal for maldini, real madrid are making their 3rd major signing of the summer????? Well we're not splashing obscene amounts out on players we don't really need, so no. They won't even have the best forward line in Spain, and their defence is still an embarrassment. A bit of a joke club, really. I look forward to them getting outgunned by Barca in the league and knocked out in the first knockout stage of the CL by Lyon. Maksimov
I'll be very surprised if Maldini comes to Chelsea. He was born in Milan and played his career at AC and now his son is playing at AC Milan's youth academy. Would he really be willing to move his family to London? Ancelotti was just one of the managers he played for afterall.
