loz Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Late for work so here is my quick pre-game chat. Don't screw it up boys!
Cam Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Definately need to win here to capitalise on the Fulham result.
rahul Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 A win and nothing else. I'll take 1-0 but it should be all three points...and then hope Brum continue their awesome form and take some points off United.
The Machine Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 ...and then hope Brum continue their awesome form and take some points off United. That is not likely to happen though sadly.
PloKoon13 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Hull aren't doing quite as tragically as they were earlier in the year, but they're still not going to be pushovers at home. That said, we don't really have any excuses for not winning, especially with Man Utd hitting form and breathing down our necks.
Mikstaw Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 This game we must win! Arsenal is very close to us in the table.

They look pretty average to be honest and I would expect Brum to hold them to a draw. Always thought Arsenal would be our biggest threat this season and still do.

They look pretty average to be honest and I would expect Brum to hold them to a draw.Always thought Arsenal would be our biggest threat this season and still do. Assuming Arsenal win the game in hand they are only a point behind and if Man Utd go on one of these post New Year runs that they seem to have made a habit of recently, we've really got to be getting 3 points every match to be sure of winning the title. Hull weren't easy to break down first match of the season so this mightn't be as easy as it looks on paper with a weakened squad. Will be interested to see if we play 4-3-2-1 as we did against Watford or whether Nico's return will mean the diamond reappears with Sturridge the second player upfront. If Sturridge is a confidence player we can hardly leave him on the bench I wouldn't think, we need to use him now he's on a high. That said it wouldn't be the first time this year a player who has made a good contribution has found himself back on the bench the next week.
The Machine Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 It is being reported on the Telegraph website that the game may still go ahead this Saturday lunchtime. This would be great news if it goes ahead...
The Moos Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Doesn't Stephen *unt play for Hull? Yet another reason to beat them :)
shedhead Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) I am intending to go to this one but I wouldn't be surprised if it does get called off. Not because of the pitch but because of the surrounding area much like Le Arse v Bolt-on. If it does go ahead we will absolutely batter them 0-6 I reckon. The 433 system plays to our strengths and creates space which is the trick these days. I wonder what I will say to Hunt. Edited January 7, 2010 by shedhead
german-blue Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 my line up ---------------------cech---------------------- ---ivan--------alex-----jt-----------ashley--- --------------------ballack-------------------- ---------------lamps----zhirkov-------------- ----------------------joe---------------------- ----------------nico--sturridge--------------- Subs: Hilario,PF,Ricci,Malouda,Matic,Kakuta,Borini
South Beds Blue Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Have a feeling the weather will be the only winner this weekend- can't see many games' north or south, being on. The snow might stop but the temperatures are dropping- we may be in for a very boring weekend

The snow might stop but the temperatures are dropping- we may be in for a very boring weekend I really hope this isnt true. I will have withdrawal symptoms. Need 2 games a week ! btw: Snow, low temperatures, bad pitch conditions...isnt that the perfect time for Deco to come back from his injury ?? Edited January 7, 2010 by german-blue
evissy Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I really hope this isnt true. I will have withdrawal symptoms. Need 2 games a week !btw: Snow, low temperatures, bad pitch conditions...isnt that the perfect time for Deco to come back from his injury ?? Perfect. Deco is known to treasure these "original" conditions where football was meant to be played. Only reason he moved to England to play in these games...Expect his condition to be "not just ready yet"/"picked up a knock in warming" -type of thing. -------------Cech Ivan---Alex-----Terry----A.Cole -----------Belletti -----Ballack------Lampard Sturridge---------------Malouda ------------Anelka Usually Carlo changes bunch of players even after a rout so this might look like nothing we see on saturday.. I would use Sturridge on the wing, not sure if the boy was left or right footed(if left, not sure we should play him on right wing)
Cam Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I think Sturridge is a natural left footer. Not sure, be he could struggle on the right wing. Also, I would love to see Matic start at DM based on what I've read recently. Then again, Beletti does something awesome every now and then. I would put Cole on the right wing in that formation I think.
rahul Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'd still go with the diamond formation and see how Dani fares there along with Anelka. Tip of the diamond will, as always, be a problem area but Joey has to fill in there. The other three places Ballack, Lamps and Belletti or even give Matic a chance.
Tim Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Anyone think Matic should be given a go, especially if we're talking about playing Beletti slightly out of position as a DM? I know he's considered one of our youngsters, but by and large people seem to be very impressed with his cameos so far, and he's got to get a start at some point.

"Wigan have said their match with Aston Villa will go ahead, while the games at Arsenal, Birmingham, Burnley, and Hull are all set to go ahead provided the safety of spectators attending the fixtures can be guaranteed. Ruh Buh Juh Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 By that Arnesen interview on ChelseaFC, it seems Matic should be getting more and more playing time in that holding role, if he starts tomorrow I'm not sure, but he'll almost certainly get some playing time there, like against Watford, and with him being a defensive player, no matter the score he can come on. A promising fact about him though is that for his old club he was a box-to-box midfielder, so he will undoubtedly be more effective than Mikel when going forward. When I've watched him for the reserves, he's always impressed me, he was excellent vision, good strength, power and a good shot on him too. He could be a big star for us. ----------------------Cech ---Ivanovic-----Alex------JT------A.Cole ----------------------Matic -----------Lampard--------Malouda --------------------Joey Cole ----------Anelka---------------Sturridge Subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Carvalho, Zhirkov, Belletti, Kakuta, Borini.
abramovich Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'm surprised so many here have Matic as a starter. I have only seen him feature for reserves a few times and he looked good but there's a world of difference between that and playing the league game. CECH --- IVANOVIC, TERRY, ALEX, A.COLE --- BELETTI, LAMPARD, ZHIRKOV, J.COLE --- ANELKA, STURRIDGE. SUBS: MALOUDA, BALLACK, CARVALHO, BORINI, KAKUTA, MATIC, HILARIO.
Tim Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 To clarify, i don't neccesarily think he should start, but a half if we're doing well should be on the cards, if we have any intention of using him more extensively this season.
Iceman Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Just twittered by Juliano Belletti http://twitter.com/JulianoBelletti Players already on train back to London allegedly.
