A lot will have changed form wise by the end of May but I would go with this at the moment,

Ivan just gets in ahead of Bos for his heading ability both in attack and defense and because we don't know how well Jose will recover by then.

Maybe Joe or Deco will have found form by then or maybe Sturridge would have proved he can do more than Kalou but at this stage I am not yet convinced,

at this time I would have Belletti ahead of Mikel as back up in the Holding role although I am judging that on one decent performance against a weak team

but being as he can play almost anywhere I think I would still go with him.

Like chippy I would have Drogba ahead of Anelka with Anelks a lil wide but not on the wings. Depending on form, the RM is either Ballack or Cole. If Deco is back and his form is better than Maloudas, I would swap Deco to the tip and Lamps to the LM....Deco is a proven CL player and champion. I remember in the group phases I was mad cause Carlo used Jcole in the CL and Deco in the EPL. I thought he should of done the reverse in order to better suit the players experience and skill set.

2nd half I would mix it up if we have a lead to protect or if we arent creating enough chances/giving away too many on D. I would swap out Bossy for Ivan, and depending I would put Zhirkov on either LB or LM pending players form (Barca would not be able to keep up with our LM/B players over 2 halves....we dominate that side in terms of pace with the players we have....I would almost grnteed make a sub on that side just to bring in fresh legs to run at what will already be tired players for Barca).

We should, by this time, be able to switch these formations fairly easily if needed. This should allow us to disturb the tactics of the other team, as well it would provide for better width coverage without affecting our ability to attack/counter. I think with the quality we have on the left we can terrorize and tire out Barca if we utilize that depth.

I played basketball growing up, and we'd run dozens of different plays/formations in a single game. It really helped if we needed to shake things up or if a team figured out the current tactics we could just switch to somethign else we knew. Obviously if something was working well you can just stick with it. Might help explain my love of switching tactics!

I went with clogging the middle off the bat, and having our pacey wingers for attacking depth, as it was effective at closing them down last year. However 2nd half I would like it opened more as I feel we have a true advantage in depth (other than strikers) and by then Barcas players legs wont be as fresh and hopefully we can then put on another performance similar to the sunderland game.

ruined my formations!

First is the diamon almost minus the tip! and with Drogba/Anelka operating in the middle of the field and just going with flow as they do best when developing an attack. the "tip player" would almost be in a line with the RM/LM with Essien behind to sweep up for defenders. (Tip would almost be shared with Anelka and the CAM, pending the flow either Anelka can drop down, or the CAM can move up....Drogba is fine ahead alone!)

The second is a 433 with the Drogs just ahead of the wings, and the wings just slightly more in the middle than the midfielders. Zhirkov would sub for either Malouda or Acole as he can play almost anything on the left side.

I think we're gonna struggle to get past Inter, so I'm not even gonna start thinking about the final. Besides, no matter how far we get, UEFA will make sure we don't win the competition so I can't get excited about it at all.
