Colditz from the early to mid 1970s.

Got the boxed set for my birthday.

Just started watching it.

A brilliant series, Erskblue. I remember watching it in the seventies. The book by Pat Reid on which the tv series was based is worth reading, The book: They Have Their Exits by Airey Neave is also worth reading. Neave was the first British prisoner to escape from Colditz and ended up working for Military Intelligence.

Boyne: Yeah I have the Pat Reid book. I won it as a schools athletic prize back in 1981 !

I have read the Airey Neave book and have Colditz the definitive history by Henry Chancellor.

Enjoying the series.

Mark. McManus of Taggart fame is in Episode 1

Erskblue, will look out for the book by Henry Chancellor. Thanks for the recommendation. It's many years since I've watched Colditz. I'd forgotten that Mark McManus appeared in Episode 1. He was brilliant as Taggart.

Boyne: Believe it or not I got the Colditz book in a local charity shop for £1. It's in mint condition too.

Erskblue, that's a bargain. I love looking for books in charity shops. Just had a look through my books and can't find my copy. Think I gave it to my Dad many years ago. When I visit my parents' house will have to look. I think Pat Reid published a sequel as well.

Just had a look on Amazon and there was a sequel. It is called the Latter Days at Colditz and tells the story of what happened after Reid's escape until the end of the war. Includes the bit about building a glider to escape. Wasn't used in the end as the castle was surrendered to the Allies before it was due to be flown.

Happy Twin Peaks day!

The latest season is magnificent.  I could have done with watching all the old ones first, however I took the opportunity of watching Fire Walk With Me the other night which helped a bit but it's still as wierd and confusing as ever.

Living in the states for a while I have been feeling the need to get some British tv in so this weekend I indulged in classics such as :-

-Fawlty Towers

-Bottom

-Blackadder goes forth

-The Office

Also been catching up on the new Sherlock series that came out recently, not massively impressed. The first two seasons were apex stuff, last two not so much!

As a kid / teen:

  • Blakes Seven
  • Last of the Mohicans (version filmed in Scotland)
  • The Water Margin
  • Kung Fu - David Carradine

Later:

  • Sopranos though went on too long got bored and never finished the last series.
  • X-files
  • Invasion - stopped after just one series, bizarre was very good.
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor chronicles
  • Spartacus by Stars
  • Helix - just started and then they stopped showing it , it was good as far as it went.

This thread has made me want to revisit Twin Peaks, I remember the sound track though not much else.

Can't believe 'In bed with me dinner' has not been mentioned.

I watched the Last of the Mohicans when it was on the TV. I picked up a copy of it on DVD a few years ago. I have to say it is a better adaptation of John Fenimore Cooper's book than the film with Daniel Day-Lewis. In the book and the TV series Uncas has a relationship with Cora Munro. In the film Cora Munro has a relationship with Hawkeye. Strange that it was changed. A few other differences in the film from the book.

Saw the complete series of Minder in our local supermarket earlier today. Boxed set of 10 DVDS. Need to drop a few hints now...

A fine programme. One of the episodes has a clip of Terry McCann at Stamford Bridge. I'm trying to find the clip on youtube. Will post if I can find it. George Cole was a fine actor.

Just watched a clip of Mark McManus with the late, great Rikki Fulton. From Scotch and Wry. That was a fine programme. Some great clips of it - including the one below - on youtube. Fulton as the Rev. I M Jolly was brilliant.

Boyne: Brilliant Rikki Fulton clip. Supercop and the Rev I.M. Jolly are timeless. Although non Scots might find it hard to understand the language and the very Scottish humour.

Boyne: The clip when Fulton plays the Reverend David Goodchild is priceless. "Lovely water that !"

This sketch I think was the original Late Call and then the Rev I.M. Jolly took over.

Just watched the clip of Rev David Goodchild. Brilliant. Now watching Rikki as the Rev W.E. Free. Wonderful.

As you say, some non-Scots might find it hard to understand. The first time I watched Scotch and Wry was when I visited my Grand-Parents in Larkhall south of Glasgow many years ago. Found it hilarious. A shame that it has never been shown in England.
