Yuri Zhirkov

The manner in which he battled on after that head collision, with blood streaming out of him has to be highly commended.

There would be many a player in the Premier League gone off, not just with the effects of the collision, but also with the cutting.

It didn't affect his performance and he continued to get stuck in and link up in the attack.

He is one hard little Russian and I have a huge respect for him purely for what he did last night for Chelsea.

Very impressed with Yuri's performance yesterday. Didn't look affected at all with the blood running down his chin, on the contrary he looked very focused and sharp.

Any player that bleeds for the cause is OK in my book.

He had a storming game. It's a nice problem to have when Cole returns, and he'll be dissapointed to lose his place, but I'm sure there's room for him on the wing somewhere.

He reminds me of Dorigo a bit.

Couldn't help but think of this during the game:

Strange how you can get a yellow or red for a late challenge with your feet, but coming in late with your head is ok, and this by one of the best headers of a ball in the league. The spirit of the lad was magnificent, perhaps CA should show the video of his performance to a few others.

He is an awesome player. Gets on with the job, is very effective. Should definately show his perfomance to others.

Bigtime, I was very impressed with Yuri battling on, rather than coming out like some wouldve done, and having such a great game.

Hopefully he bed in just as well playing on the left of midfield or as a winger, because i'd like to see him as a starter even after Ash returns

he has been playing well for a few weeks now, but last night was THE game where he secured his place with the fans...fully deserved to have his name sung by all and sundry

 Great post

A lot of people questioned his signing, both in the wake of Wayne Bridge's departure and Arsenal getting his mate Arshavin.

I was at last years Chelsea Player of the year awards where Peter Kenyon told my fiance' we'd be signing him and immediately did a bit of research both on the net and from Eastern Europeans who cross my path in my job.

His performance in a more forward role against Milan pre-season was superb, but as i've always said injury interupted pre-seasons are a huge influence on the performance of players, Yuri was injured on the tour and continued to pick up niggling injuries which gave the impression to some people that his mentality was not suited to the Premier League or even his game in general.

I am as surprised as anyone about the team and management turnaround since we lost to Inter and the lethargic display against Blackburn. Yuri last night showed the character and determination not forgetting quality that I love about special players close to my Chelsea heart.

Maybe not 'John Wile' but the blood, headband and toughness from a flair player was brilliant to watch.

Since that draw at Blackburn squad players have really come to the fore, Zhircov and Malouda have been our best players in my opinion and Ferreira has been outstanding in Ivanovic's absence.

Ideally, when Ashley returns i'd have Yuri in front of him, quite where that leaves Malouda I don't know, but when we have a full strength team i'd go for ...

CECH

IVANOVIC

TERRY

ALEX

A,COLE

ESSIEN

LAMPARD

MALOUDA

ZHIRCOV

J.COLE

DROGBA

Over to Carlo for the formation :D

Great performance by yuri kept bombing up and down the wing all game just brilliant, with all the reports of real interested in ash cole id be happy with yuri playing week in week out and have van arnholt as back up , i would also like that on ESPN last night they said that kevin Davies has commited the most fouls in Prem League history if this is true its a shocking stat for a striker someone should teach him the difference between physical and dirty!

Yuri, Yuri, Yuri

Here comes the hurdy Yuri man

scoring goals for fun

(If you're old enough to remember Donovan's original)

Yep, well done Yuri and well done Paulo.

After the game against Wigan I want these two to take a bow and get a huge clap, wonderful performances from the both of them

I think Romans,'you are playing for a new contract', was really taken to heart by some of these players. The performance against Inter was pitiful but we have come on leaps and bounds since then.

Great stuff.

IMO, ideally a 4-3-3 with Yuri in Mid and Malouda on the wing!

I see it the other way round, Malouda is playing much more centrally in recent weeks and we're benefiting from it.

Just imagine a left flank of Ashley - Malouda - Zhirkov based on recent form...
