Jacky Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 World Cup 2020 is going on. Who do you think will win this world cup? I think Argentina would win in that they have a strong team.
Lady Diehard Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I wasn't aware there'd even be a World Cup in 2020 Some predictions: 2010 - Argentina again 2014 - Brazil again (it's on their home territory) 2018 - Germany again - probably on English territory 2022 - Brazil again 2026 - Italy again 2030 - One-off flash-in-the-pan - South Korea Forgive me, lads - some of us are going through loose bowel day today instead of yesterday. My Azzurri are once again in the last chance saloon and I have been out to buy the necessary anaesthetic, and will commence serious consuming of various alcoholic beverages in about 15 minutes time. I may not surface for some time....
Hutch Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Why? the simple answer would be because i don't think they're good enough. do you?
dkw Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) the simple answer would be because i don't think they're good enough. do you? I think we have a chance yes, plenty of teams have won international comps after scraping through the group stages. Italy made an art form of it. Do you thibnk Geramny can win it, because they have only had one decent display yet are still expected to go far. Edited June 24, 2010 by dkw
Zola Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 USA Algeria Slovenia ^ Hardly world beaters? Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain etc. Different kettle of fish.

Last night in my opinion Germany were very lucky to get a win, if ghana had a decent striker they could quite easily have won 2 or 3-1. as you say, only Argentina have looked decent, no-one else has really stood out and had consecutively good games. England have as much chance as any other nation that gets through, but only if they play well, which is the same for all of the countries left surely?

Lady Diehard Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) Is Pirlo back for this game? I think he might be the important creative cog the Azzurri are missing. Brazil to win. Bit late to answer this now, Plokoon. As you no doubt saw, he brought Pirlo on as a sub. However, I was happy when I saw that the starting line up included Reno Gattuso - but alas - nothing was working for gli Azzurri today. Probably best that they've gone home. They can regroup and sort out a decent side for the 2018 world cup. Oh, and I disagree about Brazil - who have also disappointed so far. My money's on Argentina. Edited June 24, 2010 by Lady Diehard
ws6blue Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 argentina look best all round team, brazil good in patches if you let them play and Uruguay also decent spain good to watch but defence not good enuf, ditto holland ARGENTINA for me (regrettably)
Hutch Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 i think we'll be better able to judge Brazil and Portugal after they've played each other tomorrow.
eis Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 England! even if we play rubbish we will still win it! no doubt about it
Barry Bridges Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 England, the more JT gets slagged the better he plays.... and you know he's goinna keep getting slagged by the media! (oh and cause I predict Rooney and Lamps to burst into goal scoring form in the knock out phases!). Otherwise I predict it to be the winner of the Netherlands vs Brazil in the 2nd knock out round (a prediction off of a prediction! haha)
Bez Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Honestly i think England, If we can beat Germany & Argentina then i think will be worthy winners. I really see us doing it as well we just need to step up each game. I just have a feeling about this squad, if you compare them to others it's really just as equal as the best of them and our players now are aging last world cups for a lot of them. I think we will have the fighting spirit needed but it all depends on how we play against the Germans. You can do it lads!
mad_mac Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 England??? Not a chance. The look disorganized, no real leader on the pitch (well done Capello) and their one real star forward isn't showing up. I had high hopes for Serbia, but it looks like I had the wrong former Eastern Bloc team down for the good run. I really think it's down to Brazil or Argentina, Spain will collapse as usual (despite thier Euro glory 2 years ago). however, I am still sticking with my pre-kick off pick of the Netherlands

moi Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 There is a little country just south of Scotland, which might just prove to be the dark horse of the competition, as they say in these reality shows.
mad_mac Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Hey Jock, this is an international tournament, what do you know about winning things...... Touche, but seriously I just don't think England have shown enough to be serious contenders. If at the end of it all England win, I'll be humble and amazed! I'm just sick of the "lets go to JOe up at toxteth, who has had his whole family out painting his cortina in the St George's cross in anticipation of England's success!' Or the shi*e songs (john Barnes, Lucy Pinder, all that stuff) that we have to endure every four years. And finally, the "spirit of '66," or "best team ever" or "Captain Stevie G." It's just cringeworthy, and always leads to over hyped expectations, and gives the rest of Britain and Ireland a good chuckle. Scott
