Michael Mancienne

Wolves have confirmed they are still hoping to seal a permanent deal for Michael Mancienne.

The Chelsea youngster has spent most of the last two seasons on-loan at Molineux, playing in both defence and midfield.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is a confirmed admirer of the 22-year-old and owner Steve Morgan is ready to finance a move.

"If Chelsea say he's available then we would have an interest. Until they clarify what their plans for Michael are, it's very difficult to comment," he said.

"We think the world of Michael at this club - he's a good player, he knows the set-up and he's a popular lad with the squad.

"I think Michael's future depends on what home-grown players Chelsea bring in because they have a balance to strike.

"It's not like going to Tesco and taking tins off the supermarket shelf - as we all know, getting the right players is very difficult.

"The biggest issue is where Chelsea see Michael's future."

Not seen him too much playing for the Wolves but I'm very much 50-50 on this guy. He looks to have everything to make it in the prem but that is not what I've read of him in here and in papers..What do you think?

I don't like the idea of us schooling a player and the let him go. Mancienne is not super young prospect as he is 22 but playing alongside with JT or Alex could do very good for the boy.

I expect him to go to Wolves but I don't know..

What was the new English born player rule, if there was one? Would we actually need him now that Joey is gone...?

Mancienne to go on loan somewhere else just to get experience then come back to us in January and play some games if we are winning 3-0 or 4-0

Sad, sad, sad. This guy was our first big hope to make it with the first team for a long time, especially after his England call-up. With the new home grown player rule, I'd have thought he'd be the last player we'd be letting go. But I suppose this is just another case this summer where we've got to trust Carlo and his team to what's right.

I believe Mancienne will be back with us for next season. If so he will need early FA Cup rounds and Carling Cup games to prove himself.

For defensive midfield cover it appears Matic is ahead of him in the pecking order. I believe Bruma is ahead of him to cover at righr back.

Only time will tell how he develops!!

it's time to sell him, but hopefully the club will be clever enough to include a sell on clause should he develop well at his new club.

up here in ws6, wolves fans would like him - he can play centre-back, right-back and midfield & he finished there last season, but he wasn't always a first pick at wolves?

problem is he hasnt kicked on and physically he is a bit lightweight

looks more like a continental player so maybe we should keep him and play him as developng cover for rikky

disappointing he hasn't reached the next level - but he is still young enuf

He was their first choice as CB for the first half of their season. He had some issues with his health and fitness where he lost out a month and by then Craddock and Berras had formed a partnership. Having said that Mick has always shown his preference for playing him and made sure he started in the big games against Pool and Arsenal. He wont he MOTM against Arsenal and was very effective in marking Gerrard. He's a defender whose strength is reading/ anticipating the game. He is very much in the Carvalho/ Baressi and Cannavaro breed of defenders and these guys only get better with experience. I hope we show some patience with him.

Thnk we'll sell him. Too much competition for a position for him, and I think it's a better idea for teh club to cash in on him

agree wiv all of that maverick....just a nagging doubt if he can't get 1st pick at wolves..

As I pointed out in my earlier post - its all about patience now because he seems to have the ingredients in place. Frankly I dont recall any of our loan players putting in a MOTM performance against a top side like Pool/ Arsenal. So it's pretty evident from those performances that the lad can step up at a big stage.

I believe Bertrand did against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Really don't know, I can't see him become a squad member at the moment, not in the near future either and I think it would be best for us to sell him to the likes of wolves.

He is a defender, which maverick pointed out whose strength is reading and anticipating the game but at 22 I expected him to bulk up a bit to improve his game even more.

He most certainly did, and he did week in week out all last season albeit in the Championship, what's more, if he stays he'll push AC for his place more than Bridge ever did.

Who, Mancienne? I doubt that, I dont think hes ever played left back for us or anyone else. The only 2 positions can see him playing is either Right back or Defensive Midfielder.

Bertrand.

Oh right, sorry missed that bit. Too early in the morning, I knew I should have waited until I had a coffee before posting.

And I agree, he really does look a hell of a little player.

Yes he did pretty weel but I dont think it was a MOTM performance. I will post the link of Mancienne's performance against Arsenal - maybe that should help some of you out here.

Not wanting to advertise a rival site, but if you do a Google search for "The room is too small" you might see a reason why Mancienne might be staying.

good article. when put it like that, our lack of transfer activity certainly makes a lot of sense. if we are going to buy again this transfer window, it looks like it'll be one or at the most, two new players, and we'll need to choose wisely.

to state the obvious, you really wonder how Man City are going to manage to fit all those players into their squad while managing to comply with the new rules. not that i'm too fussed about what goes on up there - it's their problem.

from Sky:

Mancienne Seeks Stability

Versatile youngster accepts he may need to move on Michael Mancienne is keen to put down roots, and accepts he may need to leave Chelsea in order to do so.

The former England Under-21 international remains on the Blues' books despite spending the last two seasons on loan at Wolves.

The versatile 22-year-old has been forced to look elsewhere after finding his route to the first-team at Stamford Bridge blocked.

He now faces a tough choice at a crucial stage of his career, with it unclear where he figures in Carlo Ancelotti's plans.

Manciennespacer.gif knows that in order to produce his best he needs to feel settled and comfortable in his surroundings.

That is not the case at Chelseaspacer.gif at present and he accepts that a summer switch may now be his best option.

Quality

Wolves, who have been impressed by him over recent years, are reported to be keen to strike a deal and Mancienne has hinted that he would be open to such a move.

"I've been at Chelsea since I was a kid and I'd love to break into the first-team, but it's hard for any young player knowing how much quality they've got," he told the Daily Express.

"I've had two seasons on loan at Wolves and had regular games and really enjoyed it. Now I want to be settled at one club."

While Mancienne has opened the door to a move, he could yet be offered an opportunity to prove his worth under Ancelotti.

Chelsea are set to be without Brazilian centre-half Alex for the start of the new season, while Ricardo Carvalhospacer.gif has expressed a desire to join Real Madrid, spacer.gif leaving a vacancy alongside John Terryspacer.gif at the heart of the back four.

I could see is hangin on to him until the January Transfer window, giving him a shot, and if he's not done much by then, we'd ship him on.

However, he's in such a tough area of the team to try and break into the first team, and with PVA, Bruma, and Bertrand all young and playing along the back, I could see him maybe just accepting his fate and staying at Wolves full time
