Cam Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Home grown, didn't think of that. But I don't see us signing him.
Ruh Buh Juh Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Has impressed me whenever I've seen him, to be fair, and at 23 he could he a good bet for a back up.
Bez Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) Tony Pulis has revealed that Chelsea made contact over a move for Asmir Begovic but Stoke have no intention of selling.Ross Turnbull and Hilario have provided the back-up to Petr Cech since Carlo Ancelotti took charge at Stamford Bridge but the Blues manager now appears to be looking for another goalkeeper. Potters boss Pulis says Begovic had attracted their interest, just a few months after making the move to the Britannia Stadium from Portsmouth. Begovic struggled to dislodge Thomas Sorensen from between the posts during the second half of last season but is still highly regarded. Pulis insists Begovic will not be going anywhere as Stoke are looking to strengthen their squad rather than allow key men to leave. Speaking about Chelsea, Pulis told The Sentinel: "They have enquired, but they have been told he is not for sale. "We are trying to bring players in, not let our better players go." So the club is worried then. Edited August 10, 2010 by J.C.B
Ruh Buh Juh Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 So the club is worried then. What if we swap them Turnbull for Begovic? I'd be happy to see that.
PloKoon13 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Is this the fabled 'third signing' we've been hearing about? Also does this mean we're going to have four goalkeepers in our squad of 25?
loz Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I didn't want Begovic before and I certainly don't want him now http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6334288,00.html Can't be arsed with players that strike.
Tim W Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 What's wrong with Walker apart from being young and readily available in our reserves
PloKoon13 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I don't understand why Sorensen isn't starting for Stoke; he's a top keeper. Is he recovering from injury or something?
HazardsLeftPeg Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I don't understand why Sorensen isn't starting for Stoke; he's a top keeper. Is he recovering from injury or something? Sorensen does start for them. They wanted to give Begovic a game in the cup but then he couldn't be bothered
PloKoon13 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Sorensen does start for them. They wanted to give Begovic a game in the cup but then he couldn't be bothered I was under the impression he was starting in the league as well.
Ben Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 The stupidity of all this, is that pompey owe us money, why didn't we sign him last winter? We've needed a back up gk since we sold Carlo.
Bobbywoodhogan Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I would love for us to sign Begovic, Hilario and Turnball are awful

gee Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 hes always seemed to play well against us so if we could get begovic, then we could have the three goalkeepers in our squad as Cech, Begovic, Turnball. \meaning we would have two homegrown players there.

Eh? I think he has only played against us once. (twice at a push) and that was coming off the bench to concede 5 goals!
abramovich Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Eh? I think he has only played against us once. (twice at a push) and that was coming off the bench to concede 5 goals! To be fair, that was hardly his fault, he had no team in front of him. I wouldn't judge his ability based on that match, had there been Cech,Buffon or Reina in his place the score would probably have been the same in the end. Edited August 26, 2010 by abramovich
loz Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 That is fair but I am still not sure where the claim that he has always done well against us comes from.
Bobbywoodhogan Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) I doubt we'd pay £10 mil but we really could do with getting him cause if Cech gets injured or suspended we're stuck with Hilarious or Turnbull :( Edited August 29, 2010 by Bobbywoodhogan
Bobbywoodhogan Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I don't want us to give up on Turnbull yet. If we brought Begovice in it would be good to laon Turnbull out I reckon.
loz Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 If we brought Begovice in it would be good to laon Turnbull out I reckon. Wouldn't it be wiser to let Hilario go so as to free up a foreigner spot in the squad. I still don't understand why people who think Hilario is a liability as a back up are keen on Begovic.
