From the Sun:

CHELSEA are weighing up a move for South Korea World Cup star Chu-Young Park.

The Monaco striker's representatives met with Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, sporting director Frank Arnesen and chief executive Ron Gourlay before their opening-day 6-0 win against West Brom.

And Chelsea will decide within the next 48 hours whether to meet Monaco's £8million asking price for the 25-year-old - who started all four of South Korea's games at this summer's World Cup.

The deal could give Chelsea a chance to break into the lucrative Far East market, where Park is second only to Manchester United's Ji-Sung Park in terms of stature.

Chelsea will play against a Thailand All Stars XI in Bangkok next summer as part of their pre-season preparations and may go on to tour South Korea.

If Park was playing then the club could charge up to £2m in match fees which, along with increased shirt sales, would make the deal virtually self-sufficient.

And the Premier League champions also hope it would encourage sponsors Samsung - whose current deal runs until the end of the 2012-13 season - to extend their contract.

Can't remember to much of him from the world cup. Sounds like we are signing him purely for commercial reasons. If we are interested in buying a player just because he's from the Far East I would rather we sign a player who could actually play a part in the team.

Park Chu Young is a player who has received a lot of hype for quite a few years now and has only recently started to live up to it. I.e., he's the kind of player who kicks all kinds of arse on PES and FM.

I'm not sure if he's quite Chelsea standard yet, but I'd be interested to see how he does. He's quick, he's intelligent and he has a mean free kick on him.

I didn't really know who he was until the World Cup i'll admit. But i was always very impressed with him when i watched the South Korea games. (I was keeping an eye on his team mate Ki Sung-Yeung who plays for my other team Celtic.) His work rate was brilliant and he was a massive handfull for the oppositions defenders.

I knew ManU was after Korean supporters when they bought Park but he has turned out to be a good player for them. This looks like a nice anniversary gift for Samsung if we buy this Park. It looks like a win-win situation for all. If he's not our standard as a player we can waste him on Carling cup...

Worrying thing about this is the thought of buying players for reasons other than footballing ability..

The cynicism of this buy would be astounding. To be honest it sounds more like a Kenyon thing to do.

Why? I dont get this attitude. Look at what Evissy said about JS Park at Man Utd, he has been a fantastic squad player for them, and is trusted by Ferguson in the biggest matches to bring a spark and defensive responsibility and energy. Also, I think Lee Chung Yong from Bolton would be a valuable squad player here considering how he has done since arriving in England.

Just because the Sun says an asian signing would reap great rewards with shirt sales (of course it would) it doesnt mean these are not players who can contribute something on the field every week.

Not trying to pick on you Spiller, but frankly I think the cynicism comes with assuming every signing from Asia is done to make the club money there.

LOL :-)

I dont know why, but I find these things hilarious every time. Maybe its the mass of strangely pronounced words, or the little hampster things telling eachother to f**k off.

Fully agree Westy, anytime a team is linked with a player from Asia people automatically decide its just to sell shirts. No player from any other are seems to draw this conclusion though, which is a bot odd. Maybe, just maybe, its because hes a very good footballer that Carlo has seen potential in.

Right on the money, DKW. Carlo knows his onions and I trust him to be looking at players for the right reasons.

Another one of those vids I found. Once again, so accurate:

Doesn't he play in the same league as this ?

CY Park of Monaco had never played in that league. Among the EPL players, JS Park of manu is probably the only player who had ever played there. Wenger as a coach had experienced the Japanese league as well.

He looked quality in the world cup, but I think the only reason we would buy him is to sell shirts

Why do you come to that conclusion though? Because he`s Asian people automatically assume its a shirt sales thing, why couldnt it just be because hes a quality footballer.
